Imagine Martin needs a certain type of player to play his possession football... and is possession football able to get you out of a relegation scrap? And reading some comments.... he's not a popular choice with many. Unless he hits the ground running ... they'll be calling for his head after a few games. Daft choice if they go that way.

I can't see it myself, Barney's a Tranmere fan.

They have an additional problem in that there are other Championship clubs also looking for a new manager. Boro and Southampton have to be better long term bets than Norwich for managers seeking employment.

Their next 2 home games are Oxford and QPR, so every opportunity to hit the ground running Putting all bias aside, I think Martin would be a decent appointment for them

What he would get is probably a bit more time than others, given he's well thought of there from his playing days. He's not someone I would want in our dug out in a million years, but he's probably a decent choice for them compared to a lot of the alternatives. EDIT: Just had a look, their 7 games between now and Christmas are Brum away (tough), Oxford & QPR at home, Watford away (tough with their home form), Sheff United away (6 pointer), Saints home (tough, they're finding some form), Preston away (horrible place to go). Puts a lot of pressure on those home games against Oxford and QPR at the end of this month. If the next 3 don't yield 4 or 5 points or more I think it could be a tough start for any new manager there. [Post edited 12 Nov 2025 9:19]

Could work. Especially considering the person who gave them their voices was Town through and through. I miss Brian Cant. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Russell Martin to the Scum? on 09:52 - Nov 12 with 1933 views | BloomBlue | They need a firefighter for 6 months with the aim of avoiding relegation, they shouldn't look any further. They're bottom of the league (if you ignore SheffW points deduction) and not sure Martin is a relegation fighter, he failed that challenge last season. | | | |

Perhaps we could get them in the cup, when we're a top half premier league side and they're middling in L2. Their big pay day, their biggest game in years when they host us in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Only for us to turn up, live on TV and our 2nd string to batter them 0-5.

It may be coincidence, but we now have a caretaker coach. I wonder if there's going to be waiting around for Farke?

Nah, I think a little spell in the League One swamp starting next season would be good for them. Say 20 years followed by another 20 in L2 and a further 20 in the conference. As for oily Russell Martin, he always strikes me as a man who enjoys the smell of his own f@rts. A perfect fit for them, I’d say.

Surely he'll have his sights set a little higher than Norwich these days? The trajectories of both parties have diverged somewhat since he was last there.

It would be like me waiting around for Rachel Riley. Farke is multiple levels above you now mate. It's completely unrealistic.

That would be fantastic, he is a man without a plan or any understanding of putting out a balanced side. They would go down like a bullit. [Post edited 12 Nov 2025 11:05]

That's definitely an attractive scenario for a Town fan too, but I like the idea of beating them twice a season every 4 or 5 years just because they deserve it.

Is that Andy Dibble? They've got previous for making ex-goalkeeper managerial appointments - Mike Walker, Bryan Gunn - not sure if there's been any others?
