Nah - it’s only encouraging more freak show fights by adding to the viewing numbers.

Not a chance. Not worth being up at 3am for. It's not a real fight.

| I'm not defending it at all, but.... on 20:29 - Nov 17 by Bloots | ....when he was interviewed last week Eddie Hearn said that the medium term plan was for AJ to fight Fury next year. He'd need a "warm up" fight to prepare and that he wouldn't fight anyone that was a dangerous opponent at that stage. He'd fight a nobody. So he said that they might as well fight another nobody (from a boxing perspective) and get paid untold millions to do it. He'll just use it to get his jab going, warm up his defence and win on points. Then lose to Fury cos he's crap now anyway. |
I’d read Joshua was getting £100m+ for this ‘fight’ Assuming it isn’t scripted like Wrestling, he should finish Paul within 30 seconds?
| Anthony Joshua on 22:56 - Dec 19 with 715 views | Charlie_pl_baxter | I do wonder if part of the reason AJ has taken this fight is to put an end to the whole charade. Most be frustrating to see a clown show getting all the attention and if you can get paid a fortune to show it's nonsense then why not? | |

IMHO there is only one reputational loser here... AJ. Smacks of one last payday I'm afraid.

| I expect the point.... on 11:31 - Nov 18 by Bloots | ....being made is that he has "inherited" it rather than "won" it. Being the next on the list shouldn't really entitle you to a world title, you should earn it in the ring. Surely the best solution in this particular instance should be that the two highest ranked contenders fight for the title, and only then are they "crowned". Boxing is far too tied up in red tape these days to be taken very seriously. |
I think Parker and Wardley were the top two challengers at the time, which is why they fought for the Interim Title. He won the Interim Title in the ring, against a credible opponent. Wardley then became a mandatory Challenger for Usyk. Usyk didn't want the fight and so relinquished the belt. He either has a bigger final payday in mind, before retiring undefeated, or saw something in Wardley's style which means Usyk doesn't consider to be a good match up for him. Either way, Usyk refused the fight with Wardley. In a sport in which there are multiple variations of the world title at each weight, Wardley is no less legitimate a World Champion than many others.

Yeah that’s a balanced view. I think Usyk beats Wardley 99pc of the time but he vacated. Fair play to Fabio i think he’d take anyone on. That’s a fight that’s all risk and no reward for Usyk. He’s left the game conquering the division with relatively few fights makes total sense. I didn’t think Wardly would get far v Parker but he’s got heart and power.

Embarrassing spectacle. Paul ran away until his legs gave out then just kept falling on the floor for a rest.

Just watched the "highlights", which seemed to be a cardio session for Paul whilst taking the knee every few seconds to cuddle AJ. Still, was cathartic to see him lose at least.

Wardley isn't even ranked in the top 10 by the IBF or the WBC, yet is apparently the WBO World Champion. Derek Chisora is ranked 3 by the IBF!? IMHO Wardley needs to beat Moses Itauma to call himself the WBO Champion, it's not a fight I'd fancy his chances in. |
He's beat everyone put in front of him and Usyk bailed. Whilst I agree beating Itauma would really cement it and have to be honest I wouldn't be confident, that said I thought Parker would win as he was in good form and didn't. Fabio just finds a way, something I am hoping he can pass on to his mates at ITFC.

This, I woke up at 4 so stuck it on (free on Netflix) JP ran away, AJ looked like he wasn't that bothered and when he finally got near JP fell over a lot until he got connected with. Joke of a fight

Watching the highlights it looked like AJ was barely trying and Paul was just clinging onto his legs whenever he could. Still ended up with a broken jaw though. What a pointless spectacle. SB

A nice little reminder for people that to get to the top you need to work consistently hard and there’s a big difference between a pro and someone who thinks they can box (or whatever the activity is). Everyone seems to think there are short cuts to everything these. ‘These days’. Grumble, grumble, when I were lad.

Allegedly, Paul & Joshua will each make at least $92m from this "fight". So you can't really blame either of them for taking the money. However, the increasing prevalence of this sort of thing makes it more difficult to take boxing seriously as a sport. Joshua is now still talking about fighting Fury, although I don't know what that will make in PPV as both seem to be semi-retired these days. However, the public's money talks. I think the vaudeville contest like last night's has been encouraged by the way the public are continually denied the fights they really want to see, such as Fury v Joshua 5 years ago, when both were in their prime.
