| Coventry, Preston, Millwall, on 19:16 - Nov 29 with 666 views | Dubtractor | I covered this earlier, but it's worse than you thought. Sky put a stat on screen about our results after conceding the first goal by Dubtractor 29 Nov 8:17It was that since March 2024, in the 30 games where we have conceded first, we had lost 23 and drawn 7 with 0 wins. That stat is now one worse on the defeat column.
Even allowing for the fact that stat includes a (dismal) season in the premier league, that's a shocker to see in numbers, and we've seen 6 games of that type this season already.
It really does add weight to the fact that teams know that if they get something to hold onto against us, there is a game plan that will blunt us too easily. Park the bus when we have possession, let us commit too many players forward, hit us on the break with pace. That's not to say Oxford played negatively, or sh1thoused us, just that they got themselves very compact and left little space to play in, and then picked their moments to attack.
It's not a tactical problem we faced last season, and not really in 23/24 either, but it is very evident this season and we are massively struggling to solve it. The result is that we're dropping way too many points against really average teams.
Our success, or not, this season hinges on solving that challenge. We'll be fine if we score first, as we saw when Hull had to open up a bit and we created at will, but unless we stop conceding with what often feels like the first chance for the opposition, we're going to continue to struggle unless McKenna/the players work out a better way to unpick those packed defences.

“Seemed to back off” Is that why ewe were so short of numbers in defence when they scored?

You may disagree but I felt when we scored we were all over them. We're going at them with speed and intent and thought here we go. Imo we slowed down after we scored and backed off from the intensity we showed prior to the goal.

You don’t know that. But never mind. Well we know your solution. Sack McKenna. You’ve posted it and it’s fine. Your opinion to which you are fully entitled. You must have been over the moon last night and praying for defeats next week to prove your point. Cutting to the chase and in the full knowledge you want McKenna gone so we can all enjoy the sweaty excitement of the new manager, let’s have your list of replacements.

Sack McKenna, huh, out of his depth as he has no plan B never has, Tippy tappy football with no end product most of the time, Been 18 months of mediocre football not a good read, Anyone me or you could have got us out of league one, But the championship roller coaster was up there with the SBR days a joy to be involved with, With this squad we should be flying, I don't believe I've ever used the word sack, I do think he's treading water, No plan B I get his rotations his prerogative but dosent help a settled side, Btw I was annoyed last night we didn't win ruins ones weekend, You may sweat I do not, The long term plans for all of itfc are very exciting but if you don't get it right on the pitch it will all be to no avail, And on the pitch and formation is down to one man, I certainly don't have a list that's pointless,

I think that's a little disrespectful to Oxford given their subs made a difference The winner is shocking all round but not a new problem, Rowett knew that was a weakness and they executed the break to perfection sadly

| Coventry, Preston, Millwall, on 22:00 - Nov 29 with 118 views | Trequartista | Sometimes they are just statistical anomalies, I don't think it was anything to do with mentality that we didn't come from behind to win yesterday, we just cocked up a counter attack while trying to win it. Moreover we have made comebacks to draw on a few occasions Derby, Birmingham, Bristol City, Watford. So yeah statistical anomaly for me. | |
