Who do we want/need. Realistic names only.

For me:
- I’d be going back in for Hackney. Offer him whatever he wants. Offer Boro 30m if we need to. It’ll cost us far more not going up.
- I’d be getting on the phone to Morsy sharpish while recalling Conor Chaplin. The lack of link between the midfield and striker is a huge issue. The pair of them would help with that. Get the old band back together.
- I’d be looking far and wide for a striker who is a natural finisher. Someone who just knows where to be at the right time. McAteer put one in across the six yards box first half today and not a single one of our lads even thought about running into that space let alone actually doing it. I’m not sure who specifically but there has to be someone. What about the ex-Boro striker who went to the MLS. He’d do the job. A natural finisher is what we need.

What say you?

Hackney won’t be coming here in Jan.

Just go out and get players who fit the system and don’t need time to get up to speed. We need a Massimo Luongo league one type signing. Came in played half a game in the cup and then was ready to go.

Someone like Taiwo Awoniyi would be good. Idk if he is too out of our range but not getting loads of minutes at Forest. Maybe an option to buy if we go up, would come with plenty of prem experience.

The decline in George hirst makes me sad. He’s a shadow of his former self. His first touch has gone to pot this season. And as much as I think Azon has something about him, his finishing is dreadful.

Hackney won't happen especially as they will probably be above us, he won't risk coming here for 5 months with no guarantee of promotion.

The getting band back together won't be a magic fix either, also your almost sacking yourself with the money you have spent doing that.

Firstly we need to find somewhere who knows where the net is at this level, even if it's not a sexy signing.

Honestly I’ve never thought he was that good anyway. Never looked comfortable with the ball at his feet, finishing isn’t great. Just worked in the system quite well. Kieffer Moore is 5x the player Hirst is.

I think the answer to our problems would be to sign a striker who resembles the late inventor Wilf Lunn. I can't name any such strikers, but there must be one out there somewhere.

It’s so simple to see what we need to do, probably so simple we want do anything remotely close to what we need to do.

- Ruthlessly cut losses with players who aren’t necessarily bad players, but are bad fits for us, top of the list I’m afraid are Jack Clarke and Jaden Philogene.

- Cutting loan deals short where possible on Azon and Akpom.

- Johnson permanent departure, McAteer loan departure

- Most importantly, Conor Chaplin should be recalled January 1st.

- Inside left forward.

- At least 2 Strikers.

- LB

- Cover/Support for Matusiwa, Morsy if deal is feasible.

Furlong - O’Shea - Kipre - Davis
Matusiwa - Taylor
Burns - Chaplin - Szmodics

I worry that a return for Chaplin might not be a good thing for how he's remembered.

He's not done much over the last few seasons and currently has 0 goals and 0 assists for Pompey. He also did play 4 times for us this season in the Champ with 0 goals and 0 assists.

I don't think it's the silver bullet people think but I would be happy to be proven wrong.

I would be looking to play Egeli in the 10.

I would look to sign Louza as the CM as I don't think Hackney would come.

Never mind the January business I hope we kept the receipts from our summer purchases cos I’d be taking some of them back and asking for a refund.

Sam Field at QPR is a similar style to Morsy, but the guy that we were linked with earlier, Antonios Papadopoulos can play as a defensive midfielder or a centre back.

Get Joel Piroe perm or loan from Leeds.

And see if Summerville available on loan from West Ham.

Both proven at this level and are not ancient history like Akpom.

And re-sign Sam Morsy.

You're attempting to replace Clarke and Philogene and then dropping Egeli who is improving every match.

It looks incredibly knee-jerk. We know that front 4 doesn't work in the Prem so they would all need to be changed again if we managed promotion.

I don't think that front 4 would do very well, we don't even know if Burns still has his pace and can stay fit. Hopefully he does but you're basing it on two seasons ago.

I agree is sad to see GH be so consistently off his game
The other 2 having a stab at no 9 tonight we're worse though

If any players out there see how we play and how our manager sets us up and rotation every week..they will think twice about coming, only journey men and players wanting 1 last big pay day is all we get in the door

Couldn’t agree more about Chaplin, I think Egeli will end up there soon enough anyway once Wes is up and running.

Need to sort out the right back situation, none of them are really what we need and I’d argue at least 2 will go.

We can’t get rid of Akpom as he’s got an obligation as much as I’d like too. I’d be tempted to try and move on Szmodics if possible.

I was a big fan of Louza when I saw him against us, I think it would be an amazing signing and one who could step up.

I’d be shocked if we aren’t looking at Gudjohnsen from Blackburn. Think Piroe will be on most people’s lists, but it’s not a usual McKenna signing. I can see Scarlett coming permanently.

Troy Parrott, Tyrique George if they’re realistic. Not sure we need another winger, but I’d like Manhoef from Stoke if we do.

Been saying for months we need Morsy back.

"but he's not a long term solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!!!1"

No. We don't need a long term solution. We need a short term fix. We can worry about long term replacements IF we go up. Bring him home. 18 month deal. Signing bonus. Promotion bonus.

Hackney is a no brainer but I really can't see how it gets done. If he didn't want to make the move in January he certainly won't be coming now unless things change rapidly over the next 4-6 weeks.

Can't believe I am saying this but Cajuste is one I would cut loose if possible. I cannot believe how average he looks.

I would go back in for the Uruguayan CB if he's still one we want. It's clear the CB options are not what McKenna wants. Pretty gutting Burgess isn't still here.

Cut Akpom loose if we can. And Azon. I like him but he doesn't seem good enough for a team with our ambitions.

Unfortunately I don't think we can get out of any of those loan deals. We might have to make some very difficult (and very expensive) decisions in Jan and leave players out of the 25.

The squad is unbalanced. Oh and we need a striker. I can see us spending £30m or so in January if second still looks achievable. I don't think it's as gloomy as it seems right now but we do need a bit of rebalancing.

Truly impaired.

I’m definitely attempting to replace Clarke and Philogene, look awful most the time, with odd flashes of quality - terrible fits for us. Egeli improving, looks like he’s going to be a real asset long, still in adjustment phase, as did Omari.

3 of that 4 were core members of 23/24, do you recall how good they were?

Szmodics the most natural replacement for Broady, inside left forward, not a touchline winger show pony. Also noticeable the serious hinderance to Leifs output this season when Clarke and Philogene there.

Don’t worry about replacing them if we get to the PL, let’s worry about the here and now first and foremost.

Szmodics may have struggled the most of all our attacking players this season.

Zero goals. 10 games, 15 shots, xG 1.8. In his three prior Championship campaigns he's scored 5 goals, 6 goals, and 27 goals. 11 games, zero goals for Ireland. His pinch-yourself Blackburn season feels increasingly fleeting sadly.

Zero assists. Cross accuracy 6.7%, xA 0.32, chances created per 90' 0.81. He's struggled more than any attacking player to contribute to others' shooting opportunities, Akpom and McAteer included.

Binning off Clarke and Philogene to make way for Szmodics on the left looks to me to be the wrong kind of simple.

Szmodics isn’t suited to the role we ask of our number 10, nobody suits it better than Conor Chaplin.

Szmodics is at his most dangerous as a false 9, or inside left forward - the role he’s been at his best either at Peterborough or Blackburn.

Philogene and Clarke terrible fits, look awful 95% of the time - need to replace, very simple.

It’ll never happen, but would love someone like Matt Grimes from Coventry. Steady player at this level, knows the ropes, plenty of experience, been captain wherever he’s played and would just be a good player in there to help alleviate a bit of pressure off Matusiwa. As I say, it won’t be him, but someone of that ilk.

If we’re going to hope and persist with Matusiwa, then you need someone next to him instead, ala Hackney. Again, probably won’t be him but someone of that nature.

Centre mid, a 10 who can link the play and a striker are a must for me.

Cut Cajuste and Akpoms loans, just a waste IMO and neither have got going. Ideally a new keeper as well, but think we’ll kick that can until next summer.
