I think this would be the 10th biggest ground in the PL. Quite impressive.

Would be approx joint 11th, with Stamford Bridge 🥴 bigger than Elland Rd.. they won’t like that up there. Portman Rd is currently the 24th largest capacity league ground in England. Big step up.

Elland Road is planned to be increased to well over 40,000 by 2028 and then 53,000 by 2030 so that’s unlikely.

To be a sustainable PL we need to have sustainable revenue at that level. Other clubs (Leeds, Birmingham) will also be going bigger and we need to be in that top 15 ourselves. It’s clear where we are aiming imo. 40k would be see us in a better place financially especially with revenue from other avenues in the new Cobold. I suspect then pioneer stand will be increased first to hold the Cobold lot.

Only if the team was decent. Remember it wasn't that long ago when we were averaging 16-17,000 at home.

Well the team better pick up the pace then and get us back in the Premier League.

Failure to go up this year or next year and attendances will be back down to 20k once all the plastics give up and we will end up with a half-empty stadium.

Poll: Assume we have the money for one more big signing. Where do you spend it?

And if any of the present PL clubs were relegated and spent time in the Championship their gates will drop significantly- not sure what the past has to do with things.

That’s very true. I’m a bit nervous about it as there are loads who struggle to fill their grounds when they’re on a bad run. ‘Boro was one that stood out after their good PL patch - it was like a morgue, but they seem to be doing ok now that expectations have been reset by some years in the Championship. Cardiff expanded and now don’t even open the new extension apart from during Wales games.

But if we’re fully committed to the PL, we know that our ground isn’t big enough. It shows the level of commitment. Winner takes all and all that. And that works fine if we have someone willing to keep throwing money around and not happy to settle for anything less than the best we can be, but fails miserably if/when we get another Evans.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

"Fully committed to the Premier League"?
Well, no doubt the owners (& supporters) would like Town to get there & stay there. Our realistic aim is the Brighton/Brentford type of model but that doesn't require a 40,000 capacity stadium & given the uncertainty of football, increasing the stadium size looks a very dubious investment.

Why is it important??
That’s potentially an extra 10,000 fans, if they only buy a match ticket at let’s say £36, that’s £360,000 for just One home game. Then let’s say 50% of those spend around £25 on food, drink, programme and other merchandise within the stadium. Nearly £500,000. Of course it’s important.

It’s certainly not easy to get a good seat for a lot of the games this season. We still have a lot of very poor seats in the stadium.

Last year we averaged 29.5k, so far this year we’ve averaged 28.5k, and some of the opposition aren’t that big of a draw. Away support at some games has also been thin on the ground, which is going to account for a chunk. The figures don’t suggest there’s a big issue getting near capacity, and that’s in a less attractive league, with us still not having totally kicked off yet.

What constitutes a good vs bad seat? I bet no one would've moaned about a bad seat for Norwich or Huddersfield
