| Jens Cajuste 10:33 - Dec 27 with 2124 views | cbower | I include myself in this group, the one that believed Cajuste would tear up the Championship, that he was a 'cheat code' at this level and I looked forward to the free-flowing football he would help produce this season. Well, how wrong I was. The occasional 10-20 minutes of pure silk is not enough. He is a passenger, there for an easy ride, a stroll in the park. What impact did he have yesterday? Same as every game, limited. Where is his work rate? Matusiwa has to do twice as much with Jens alongside him. Yet, he is a favourite of McKenna who, despite the evidence he does not have the workrate for a double-pivot midfield, keeps trying him there only to realise that it hasn't worked again and bring him off around 65-70 minutes because the show pony is knackered again. Will I be bewitched again when Jens does something beautiful like his run for Philogene's goal against Wednesday? Probably. Will I be deceived into thinking he should start in a double-pivot? I hope not. | |

| Jens Cajuste on 10:36 - Dec 27 with 1749 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | Not sure you can say he’s a McKenna favourite when he’s been playing behind Jack Taylor for most of the season lol. We just don’t have any options in midfield really to partner Azor. Azor is a super player, probably my favourite in the team. He is crying out for a partner who can just keep possession for more than 5 seconds. He wins the ball back so many times gives it to his partner who usually gives it away. Along with a striker has to be a priority in Januar. Cajuste and Taylor are not it. | |

I was one of the very few I think that wasn’t particularly bothered whether we signed him again last summer or not. We went from Hackney to him, and when the Saudis didn’t even want him in the summer, that should’ve been a massive red flag for us. Send him back in a few days, IMHO.

Yep, Hackney was exactly what was needed and the word 'pivotal' is apposite indeed.

I know Taylor has played lots but KMc seems to want to return to Jens (the last two games and Hull for example) and it never works. That's what I mean.

I totally agree with this. Re Cajuste I made my views known last season and I haven’t seen anything to change them. He can look sublime. He did a few things against Sheffield W that were top quality and a joy to watch. Technically he’s terrific. However, for all his ability he doesn’t hurt teams anywhere near enough. He also disappears in games (against Weds I didn’t notice him on the pitch for the first 30 mins) and his fitness is suspect. The midfield doesn’t control games as it should. Taylor, bless him, has done well in recent weeks and unlike Cajuste will get stuck in, but he’s not really the answer.

Think that’s more because Taylor was pretty poor vs Leicester and Stoke. Neither of them are up to much. We will see Taylor at Cov for sure.

| Jens Cajuste on 11:37 - Dec 27 with 1301 views | King_of_Portman_Rd | I posted couple months back his time at Town reminds me of Kyle Edwards Bags of ability and a fan favourite, but very ineffectual to the point of not actually anything meaningful except a couple of flashes of skill. Probably one that can chalked up as a poor decision to revisit as he simply doesn’t look suited to the rigours of championship football. | | | |
| Jens Cajuste on 11:41 - Dec 27 with 1266 views | Nthsuffolkblue | "there for an easy ride" is harsh. He is what he always has been - a very skilful player who doesn't make the most use of the space and time he creates through his skill. I think he has improved in that recently and could become what you (and others) expected. However, he goes missing in games too often and needs to be more consistent with making the right decisions once he has beaten his men (there are often 2-3 on him). | |

As a natural optimist, my view of the situation is we missed out on the no1 target, we went for no2 or 3 and are still third in the league. It's not working out too badly is it?

As a realist. We’d have gone below Millwall who have a negative goal difference with a loss yesterday. We are level on points with Hull, it’s a terrible league with no strong parachute club like usual. It’s not been very impressive but we are in a good enough position if we can figure some stuff out due to said league.

Louza looks very decent. He has the grit, is quite skilful and can score.

| Jens Cajuste on 11:59 - Dec 27 with 1132 views | LankHenners | Oh good this thread again! Don't think he was any better or worse than most players yesterday to be honest, if anything our most promising attacking situations in the first half came from the play going through him, but it seems the pendulum of adulation or condemnation with which people judge players has firmly swung to the latter with him. Said before, think if we had him in the Championship two years ago he'd have shone as a lot of the matches were like basketball games and his ability on the ball would have come to the fore. This season a lot of the games just don't suit him and for whatever reason he still doesn't look 100% match fit. Maybe he just has a body that doesn't stand up to the rigours of professional football at this level. Taylor isn't good enough either. Absolutely bizarre that we had comments declaring he'd 'saved the midfield' or was our best midfielder etc. Take the names out of it, someone who could barely buy a start last time out in this league now getting as much game time from the off is a very bad look for our recruitment there over the past few windows. Nunez probably the best fit in there but because we also made a mess of the 10 position he's playing there instead, and even so his proclivity for always looking forwards and playing riskier passes (which is sometimes needed) would prevent giving us a spell of keeping possession to calm things down. | |

Not a bad statement. I remember Kieranknows saying he wasn't that bothered about Cajuste and thought he was mad, I really did think Cajuste was technically a step above this league and that would be enough. Sadly, if there was ever a demonstration that hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard, Cajuste is it. He does the most sublime should rolls and bursts through midfields, he's a joy to watch when running with the ball, absolute class, but I want to see him smashing a few opposite numbers and imposing himself physically. He doesn't do that nearly enough and it's hurting us.

Not quite. I don’t need to search for Matusiwa. He’s involved all the time. Same with Taylor (despite limitations) and Nunez. Egeli is learning the game but is involved when the ball is down that side. Furlong is the best defending right back we’ve had in a long while. Better than Tuanzebe? I think so because he rarely is out injured and is pretty good positionally. His final ball is woeful at times but overall he is decent. Kipre is turning into a monster player and O'Shea is quality, even if his captaincy is a bit dubious. One of the few CHs I’ve seen who can ping a pass pinpoint half the length of the pitch. Do the defenders make mistakes? Yes, but even Man U and Newcastles players were doing that yesterday. By and large, that end of the team is fine and getting stronger. Clarke and especially JP are a class above most in that division. None of these people disappear in games as Cajuste does and really shouldn’t given he’s a midfielder. He just doesn’t look suited to English football, but that maybe because he simply isn’t strong enough physically. Regardless, sort out a no 9 and the position behind him and I maintain that team will murder most in that division. When I watch that team, it almost feels like they are holding back. Even if we get an early goal as we did v Stoke, it turns into ‘what we have we hold’. I’m not sure why. I think it’s because we just don’t have the midfield to control games as we should. Team confidence? Sometimes but not enough. It took months for the Cook/Mckenna team to come together. It’s forgotten in the history rewrite I see on here from some but it’s how it was. Just because we have better players, the process looks much the same to me.
