A team we beat 3- 0 at home ... 09:53 - Dec 29 with 5974 viewsmuccletonjoe

Will be 16 points ahead of us if we lose today .
And any hope of catching them 13 points behind is pretty remote. But 16, is totally out of our range. Which will leave us looking at second place with Middlesborough, very much in the hands of our recruitment team, shouldn't leave anyone with a great deal of confidence tbh.

Doctor , Doctor , I am too realistic
"Join the TWTD forum and everything will be fine "

You really could do with making your mind up. Are you being realistic that we will lose? Or are you being pessimistic that it's the worst case scenario? Or are you just trolling?

A more balanced OP would have read:

After today's game, if we lose the gap to top will be 16 points. Even with a draw it would remain at 13 points. Whilst a win would cut it to 10 points, that's still an awful lot to make up unless Coventry have a very poor second half of the season.

"16pts is totally out of our range"

This opinion is blatantly stupid - of course 16 points can be made up, we have half the season left, anything can happen and we have improvement in us. 16 points can be made up in 6 games - with difficulty and a lot of luck of course.

Lots of teams have done it many times over the years.

Roy Keane, Sunderland, 06/07 season, 16 points: the biggest gap overhauled to win the league in Championship history. Football began before then I don't remember much about it. 😬

There is precedent but it's quite rare, chiefly because the team in 1st normally continues at a fair gallop. Next biggest successful chase I believe was 13 points, by Burnley or Reading. In PL history it's 13 points.

This is a season though in which the team out front has understandable doubters, much like we experienced in 23/24. It wouldn't be the biggest shock in football if they faltered more than normally seen.

I really wish people would stop going on about Coventry. We're not going to catch Coventry. It's their year, just like Plymouth in 2022/23, and good luck to them.

Middlesbrough, on the other hand, are eminently catchable. They're not all that, apart from Hackney, who they may lose in January, and with a good transfer window we're more than capable of overturning them.

Will Boro lose Hackney? Signing for Wolves gives him a chance to showcase his talent in the Premier League and get a taste of it but would be virtually certain relegation. I doubt Wolves would agree to a reasonable release clause in that scenario. He may as well stay at Boro and get promoted with them unless there is a genuine offer from a higher Prem club. The only way I see him leaving otherwise is if Boro have a poor few games and drop away from second. If we make a couple of top signings early and replace them in second, we might be able to tempt him but I doubt that is going to happen.

Why exactly have you posted this? What were you hoping to achieve?

Most people can read the league table. Many can do basic maths too and will already have worked out, including Mills on Radio Suffolk, that Coventry are long gone. They’ve been exceptional this season so how about saying well done them?

I can only assume it’s to encourage the rest of the happy brigade after they’ve finished their early morning ready brek, potty emptying and prayers hoping we will lose.

He may leave, he may not. Either way, my point is the same - Middlesbrough are not that great and eminently catchable.

A quick look at their forum - I think they are bang on as bad as Leeds fans. Still seem a little bitter about their defeat against us.

Here's hoping for some more Lampard tears later

Is it surprising that a team overachieving has some vocal entitled fans? You don't have to look far to see it on here.

Yeah agreed. Let's focus on getting into second which is eminently doable and then if we manage to catch Cov great.

Not about getting the title this year, it's just about getting promoted by any means necessary.

Even if it means finishing 4th and scraping through the playoffs.

The most expensive team with the highest paid manager in the entire EFL sitting 3rd - 13 points off the top and closer to 10th than 2nd

Exactly! Coventry have that many more than us at the half way point. It is possible that we amass that many more than them in the second half.

I’m not predicting it but hope burns eternal.

I'm not sure loads of teams have done it.

Give us 3 examples in the last 30 years and I'll change my mind.

Its not impossible buy its not common like you're suggesting.

So in Muccs world, does that mean it's "top spot or nothing" to get promoted? Jeez, some people need to make New Year's Resolution to lighten up.

Grumbling about a defeat/poor performance after the game is fair enough, even if some go overboard, but before the game has even been played is next level stuff!

You make it sound as if our squad is orders of magnitude more valuable than the others. The December estimated values are below :

Ipswich Town, £168M
Southampton, £164M
Leicester, £147M
Sheffield United, £130M
Coventry City, £125M
Middlesbrough, £114M

We can only speculate what the managers are earning, especially after any relegation clauses, but again it may not be as clear cut as you claim.
