Copied from The economist
Donald Trump denied any knowledge of the indictment. The Fed chair said the “unprecedented action” was a pretext to rein in the central bank’s independence.
Of course he didn’t!
I'm surprised he didn't deny even knowing who the bloke is. "The Chair of the Fed? Never heard of him!"

There must be multiple levels of irony that I'm missing here....
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....
I'm still trying to process how anyone could look at the Jimmy Saville like 'Trump Will Fix It' on the lecterns during his recent campaign and still vote for him. Maybe they don't have paedophiles who creep into Children's Home's to molest helpless victims of limited mobility in the United States ?

I think they have plenty of paedophiles, that's the problem

yes, that's right. because with trump there's only black and white, right and wrong, with us or against us, you either think the same as him or you're bad, don't think the same and you're not decent. he shouts slogans, uses simplistic labels, spreads hate, constantly manufactures enemies and fosters division. he wallows in divisiveness and never seeks common ground. political disagreements define how he treats people and whose views he values. he reads narrowly, exclusively relies on a small set of very dated ideas, and uses a very small set of historical and political analogies to shape the political slogans that he shouts.
we must all reject his approach to politics.

Come on now, he just has Very Real Concerns.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

No it’s not. The phrase that was used to send millions to their death was “Arbeit macht frei” which translates to "Work will set you free". I really wish people would stop invoking the Holocaust. It trivialises the unique, systematic, state sponsored genocide of six million Jews.
At a push you could say the slogan bears comparison to the Nazi Germany slogan “Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer,” which translates to “One People, One Realm, One Leader,” but even then, if they were going to echo that surely they would shoehorn “one President” at the end.
more GBGymnasitics to try and dispel what is going on. The accompanying imagery on that white supremacist propaganda site says it all really. As proven throughout history, the world will act too late.
Maybe Reform will be different.......oh.

As a man of Jewish descent and with a wife whose grandfather changed his surname from Cohen to Cowie in the 1930’s, I believe I have every right to comment when I believe the Holocaust is being incorrectly invoked.
This doesn’t change my belief that Trump is turning the USA into an authoritarian state where extrajudicial executions are now taking place on the streets and where people whose sexuality, skin colour, religion, ethnicity or even their political beliefs differs from what Trump considers the norm, should be very afraid for their future.
I’m sorry that using my freedom to express a view on this subject upsets your white middle class sensibilities.

You have more than every right to comment, you have a particular right to comment with your and your wife's heritage.
From my perspective (and it's worth at the very most as much as anyone else's) it can be difficult when you have a particular, personal connection not to see everything through that lens.
Bluntly, not everything should be seen through the lens of the Holocaust, as absolutely, mind-blowingly horrific an episode as that was, eighty years ago. It has huge significance still of course, and still has some first hand experience, but the world faces contemporary threats (Climate Change, Ukraine, Gaza, proto-fascism in the West, uncontrolled/uncontrollable AI/tech, etc.) with potential consequences on an unimaginable scale.
Some of those threats bear comparison with a basket of historical events if we have any hope of enlightening ourselves and steering away from a multitude of disasters. Personally I think we have fcku all hope of avoiding that first (and unparalleled) one which somehow the bulk of us seem to be wilfully ignoring, but in all cases to just look at these threats through a single, personal lens is to distort your view so badly that you won't see what's coming until it's smashed you and the futures of all you love and cherish to oblivion.
Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I think we are in broad agreement. That there is so much wrong happening around the world and people need to stop hysterically seeing everything through the lens of the holocaust.

when they keep throwing "Roman salutes", following N*zi rhetoric and decriminalising and displaying the swastika it makes it jolly difficult.

I think the point is that there was more to the Nazis than the holocaust. You can state that you believe that they are doing things similar to the nazis or that feel a bit fascist without needing to relate it to the holocaust.

I didn't read the original tweet that way to be honest. More that the nationalist rhetoric being used is strikingly similar to that used by a movement that plunged the world in to the most blood soaked conflict in human history. And I would argue it is important to highlight such similarities.
