So clever with it. Literally pushed Ohashi in the back for a potential penalty and now elbows the c*** Cantwell straight in the nosher. He always seems to get away with it!
If we go up, he'll be fked with VAR

Talking of 'getting away with it', surely there's a big risk of retrospective action for the elbow?
I didn't see it as an elbow. He raised his arm to hold off the challenge and Cantwell was ducking into the challenge. His shoulder catches the side of Cantwell's head.
Stephen Kelly said that is exactly what defenders are taught to do too.
If it is seen as an elbow, I am sure there will be retrospective action, though.

Probably got my blue tinted glasses on but that's how I saw it.

He swung it and his arm was bent. Its a red.
Looked more of a ‘racing incident’ to me, putting his arm & body across to try and shield the ball rather than a clear-cut, deliberate elbow. Probably a foul and a yellow for me.
The push on Ohashi should have been a pen and a red.

That said, the push was a penalty for them.
Having seen them again, the penalty shout was in the area so should have been a pen. I hadn't considered that would be a red card but probably should have been.
The elbow didn't contact Cantwell - he hits the shoulder. However, on replay it does look like he is swinging the elbow deliberately with force. I think he will be lucky if it isn't revisited (and that would be on the reasoning that the elbow doesn't make contact).
It may well be that he's not considered up to being first choice RB at premier league level anyhow, but I do agree re VAR. He's been really really good for us this season, and he's starting to get the praise he deserves in my view. Everyone needs a dark arts master, and he's effective - most dark arts practitioners are notorious and hence it's hard to go under the radar, but he looks quite innocent and seems to get away with it. Canny fella!

If refs don’t enforce the rules then they won’t be followed. Players will just do what they can get away with which was quite a lot in this match (on both sides).

I can't seem to find any video of either incident. No idea on either of them live.

This is the key. Against Coventry it was clear he looked to the ref as their player was constantly fouling him. When the ref waved it away he started to give as good as he was getting and when their player carried on, Furlong upped it. Their player will not have enjoyed his day at all.

I’ve now had a chance to watch the highlights, and I don’t think you can be sure the push (and there was a push) was in the penalty area without all the VAR camera angles. It was right on the edge of the penalty area (yes, he fell inside) and could have been just out or just in the penalty area.
The ‘elbow’, imo, is overstaying it. Yes, he puts his arm up, and connects with Cantwell’s upper torso/face area, but there’s not a distinctive ‘elbowing’ motion imo. Would likely deserve a yellow, but not a red.

outside the box, when the push was initiated.
irrelevant anyway.
Shove was in the D. Clever as he knew his man would score from the cross when it was played in. I'm not sure it can be a red for denying a goalscoring opportunity though if the bloke being fouled doesn't have the ball, anyone know the rule on that? Definite yellow for a professional foul though.

I actually think the Furlong/Egeli link up has much improved recently. Some lovely balls played at pace into Egeli, and a few nice 1-2 plays. It's nice not to feel so heavily reliant on the Davis/Philogene dynamic, and it makes it more difficult for the opposition to plan for.

Not sure he did a lot for the Cov side to be upset about. Mostly he just stood up to the blatant thuggery he was being subjected to.
Exactly. Think you missed what I was saying. He got it spot on against Cov. He was brilliant and got the dark arts spot on. You would be naive to think that he wasn't giving it to EMC their winger. He was. Got completely under his skin and played him a blinder.
Today he was very lucky not to give a pen away and plenty thinking straight red. I'm not 💯 on that.
