Well, quite. But is Piroe on a 4 year deal and probably close to pushing £10m the answer when we’ll be looking to replace him in 6 months time?

....then I expect we'd just move Hirst on, get an upgrade on Piroe and keep him as the rotation.

It's a slow and gradual way to improve the options.

Of course if he's a total disaster there's always the potential of a Championship club that has terrible options up front paying decent money for him next season!

Heard this at beginning of Jan that he was THE forward they were targeting so to have this reported now as bid gone can only mean this may progress.

Not sure what that really says about our current striking options that we’re prepared to spend the best part of 7 figures, maybe close to 8 figures when it’s clear that whilst he might be a slight improvement, he wound t be able to step up to the Prem.

I don't think you can write someone off after half a season. He's not doing it now but he might do it later after having more experience. Pretty sure Bamford wasn't great when he first went to the Prem. Also Chris Wood. And maybe Farke isn't playing the right system to suit him (and he's definitely not had enough chances to prove himself)

Surely priority A - really the only priority for the next few months - is getting to the Prem and then we can worry about future recruitment.

I think Piroe is overrated and likely overpriced. But could he help us get over the line? Quite probably.

If Hirst is not good enough for the Championship then I suggest that it will be he rather than Piroe who will be moving on. Is it really feasible to buy a Prem ready striker? Not too many Abrahamses around, and if there were, they wouldn't want to come to us.

I wouldn’t be against a 4 month loan as think he’d be decent enough and as I say, a slight improvement on what we currently have.

I wouldn’t want to be spending anywhere near the sort of money on what would be a long term deal.

He’ll be alright once he’s had a good think about it

That sounds like the Suffolk equivalent of the Sicilian "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"!

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

This is the type of situation where you have to do one of those deals that’s too good to turn down. Get him on a 4 year deal with a condition that if we are not promoted this year should a premier league club come in for him at the original purchase price in the following window we won’t stand in his way. Also put a release clause in for the remainder of the contract, that way if he is that good he will still end up where he wants to be. Little bit like the Delap deal it’s what was needed to get him through the door and get it over the line, ok people didn’t like losing him but without that deal he would have ended up somewhere else. I for one wouldn’t have a problem not being his first choice destination it shows a little ambition, a bit like us ending up with a 4th on the list player aim high and see where you end up.

We mean business, I suppose.

At least we're not desperate. We could go on with Hirst, Azon and Akpom and rely on Philogene/Clarke and goals being shared around. No Al Hamadi or Ahadme signings needed.

If we get a quality striker... great.... but we don't need panic buys.

This thread continued despite the translation saying the deal is off because he doesnt want championship football. Somewhere between the murkiness lays the answer!

I think he would be good but not sure we want a player anything other than 100% committed and the track record of signings where the player isnt inspired by the champ cant be good, nonenof that chat prior to Dan Neil for example, take Marc Guiu for example.

I’m going to say that if we only sign players who were 100% committed to the club, we will probably never sign anyone new. I doubt whether, at the time, Leif Davis or Sam Morsy were really keen to drop down one or two leagues to join us. But pragmatism often means that players join clubs which they would ideally rather not sign for.

Also what gets leaked out can be tactical and doesn’t always mean what it looks like it means.

Putting out that you’re indifferent towards joining a club could all be part of negotiations and narrative setting such to say you’re going to need some more persuading (££££’s)

Ugh, it's such a tricky one.

Piroe is definitely an ambitious signing, and one that we should be aiming for. But then there's the question of how firmly against a Championship deal Piroe is.

I really don't envy the balancing act of trying to be ambitious, whilst remaining realistic, especially in the face of players who don't want to move here.

Leeds are currently just six points away from safety. We are 5 points from the top two, with a game in hand. If he’s stays at Leeds he could well be playing in the Championship next season.if he moves to Ipswich he may well be playing Premier League football next season.

That’s the pitch we should be making.
