I don't know the details of this case, but we've seen over the last few decades amateur international sport sell out.
Now commentators don't think twice about saying "Here's X, who has just 'switched' from Romania to USA". 'Switched' - I heard that yesterday and I thought "What's the point of representing a country - it's a set of sponsoring corporations you are racing for". It used to be if you had maybe a grandparent you could uncomfortably justify competing for a bigger country which could pay you lots of money. Now, you just have to get a lawyer to fast-track a citizenship request and the big companies can hoover up anyone they want.
What a load of ballocks! Some international competitions essentially became meaningless when it all became about financing and advertising.
Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Sorry but it really is time to stop entertaining this troll.
He’s not a troll but rather a narrow minded old man who finds the modern world very scary and harks back to supposedly happier times. Union flag bunting, lashings of ginger beer, no pesky dark people - that kind of thing.
I suppose, one day we will all think back with extreme fondness to our youth and dislike the here-and-now.
But don’t forget, for all of his subtle and non-subtle xenophobia and racism, many posters asked for him to come back.

Benters, at some point you need to stop and ask yourself why you believe so much stuff that is demonstrably false. Then ask yourself, who does it benefit for you to believe these untruths? Why do they keep telling you these untruths? What might they be trying to stop you thinking about by filling your brain with these untruths?
Of course I expect you won't do any of that and will carry on believing they give British passports to anyone when I've just provided you with black and white evidence that this isn't the case. But it'd be lovely if just once you paused to think about why you're so ready to believe lies and why you want to hold on them even though they are lies, and then to start questioning why certain people (*cough* Farage) keep feeding you lies and imploring you to believe them.

I know it probably makes me a bad person but I am enjoying the BBC bigging up some of our Winter Olympics athletes as practically nailed on for a medal only for them to not quite make it to the podium.
Just let them do their thing and see how it goes. Celebrate their achievements if and when they happen.

It doesn’t matter where you were born, they hand out passports to anyone these days.
If that was true why do people risk their lives to come here on rubber dinghies? Why not book a flight for much less money and receive their shiny new passport, keys to their luxury house and *Eric Cartman voice* $10,000 cash?
Did you know less than half of asylum applications are approved?

Well oin this case, Gibson was born, grew up and lived in Scotland while Fear was born in the US, moved to Canada and then to the UK growing up and going to school in Hampstead. Both learned to skate in the UK and came through the UK junior ranks etc.
They now split their time between the UK and Canada.
Not really selling out but representing the country where they have grown up and been developed.

You were doing so well up to the last paragraph.
What you have to understand Benters, this is what you wanted.
You were against woke, liberal language, politically correct language, and a fan of Alf Garnett I believe. Can’t start complaining now, when people are not being PC with you.
But to others point, about facts.
Since you are an Alf Garnett fan, what would he say to you?
To quote the great man,
“So I say? So I say? Will you shut up you stupid pie-can. Not a question of what I say. It's facts, innit?"
Man, you are going to have to put up some facts.
