| Menu regret 17:08 - Feb 16 with 2334 views | Mullet | I dunno if that’s a thing or I’ve made it up. But I ordered something today with dinner and it sounded so weird it was worth the risk, when I got it, I immediately regretted it. Dubbed something like a Cherrypresso it was cherry syrup, cold brew espresso, Dr Pepper and cream. All things I like and I figured it was some mad alchemy, they wouldn’t put it on the menu if it wasn’t good. It wasn’t good. Depending on the mix it ranged from rank to weird to gag worthy. I’ve had bad meals or drinks, underwhelming ones and that before, but never something that’s genuinely made me wonder if I was being punished somehow. Anyone else got any dining horror stories? | |

We’ve got Clive Bakers “actually I’m something of a James Bond x renaissance crossover”, some bamboo muncher being all snooty at me and Dubbers just being here too. Now you’re being northernist. You can all shove one up yer brackets frankly.

And what exactly was wrong with the liver, some fava beans and a nice chianti option?

There's a restaurant somewhere (Manchester possibly?) that would love you to write up a good review for their cherryspresso. It is excellent but heathens don't appreciate how good it is, so I am told.

| Menu regret on 21:42 - Feb 16 with 467 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Slightly different but along the same lines. I once had a carvery and they had a big bowl of bread sauce so I took a decent helping of it. It isn't great when you have a decent mouthful of horseradish before you realise your mistake. Why would they have felt the need to put out such a large bowl of it? EDIT: I guess the answer to my question is, "I can't believe how popular the horseradish is, people keep taking huge helpings of it; we had better put a really large bowl of it out!" You are right to avoid the goats cheese. It’s not a good thing. I’m actually ok with McDonalds. A 1/4 pounder with cheese and no gherkin is ok or a double sausage McMuffin, no egg come to that. If you are desperate. Had occasions, for example on plane changes in America where time was short and hunger high (fly United cattle class and you’ll know why) and it did the job. Their hygiene standards are good too - far better than a flaccid Burger King mess. I did one of my first aid courses with a manager of one of the branches years ago and he told me how it worked. It’s cleverly done. Nandos? That’s ok. But for chain style food, I tend to go for something like a Bella Italia if I can/time allows. [Post edited 17 Feb 8:18]

When they only cook chicken, that's hardly a ringing endorsement!

| Menu regret on 17:22 - Feb 16 by _CliveBaker_ | I've found I tend to be the one who creates food envy from others. I've got a good track record of ordering well and normally when it arrives people are annoyed they didn't get what I've got. So much so that I've become a bit of an influencer with it, I've noticed my wife waits to see what I'm having before she chooses. Does bring a lot of pressure though, I feel the weight of expectation with it. |
I've ended up having to "fake out" my Mrs.... I'll ask her what she's having, she'll say.. menu item a.... I always say, oh I liked the look of that but gone for menu item q ( usually a special, or something tucked away). She then goes, oh, that looks lush, I might have that.... so then I bring out secret item f, which was the thing I wanted in the first place. things would be simpler if I was just allowed to order for both of us.

A good Calzone is a wonderful dinner, but I've had some shockers. They're essentially more like a giant pasty but better because they're pizza. A lot of places don't cook them long enough so the outside is baked, but not browned and the filling can be coldish and uneven.

| Menu regret on 15:15 - Feb 17 with 152 views | TIB | I was in Iceland a few years back, I always like to try local foods so ordered some Puffin for starters…it was sold out so I had whale instead. I’ll be honest, it was like the most tender piece of beef I’ve ever eaten, really enjoyed it. Anyway, as I awaited my main, a guy sat next to me ordered the world renowned “fermented shark”. I laughed and told him he was braver than me. 5mins later the waiter brought out enough fermented shark for both of us. Legit, this is the worst thing I’ve ever experienced on every sense level. Looks like cubed glue, smelt like p*ss, chewier than rubber and with every chew, it squelched some repulsive, acidic like juice. Even the post chewing palette cleansing spirit they give you couldn’t clear my senses of the stuff. Positively horrific menu choice. 0/10 and l’ve never passed comment to other diners again. | Menu regret on 15:22 - Feb 17 with 133 views | OldFart71 | I had a fruit beer in a restaurant in New Orleans. I think it was something the locals steered clear of. Also another time I had a nice meal again in New Orleans but the wine we had was only fit for cleaning out the drains. The best burger and beer I had was definitely Charleston. Double burger, bacon and cheese.Superb. My only regret was we arrived late into Charleston and had originally intended going on a old aircraft carrier, it was supposed to be haunted as it was on Ghost Hunters. Because of the late arrival and immigration it was closed so we went for the burger instead. | | | |
