| discrimination/abuse among town fans 23:27 - Feb 24 with 5844 views | CobboldCrusty | just got back from Watford game, obviously a great result and a great time had called someone out for being homophobic at the game, got repeatedly called a d1ckhead from a very angry an embarrassed man who carried on at it before later denying he'd ever mentioned Elton John's sexuality train back a bunch of men being generally intimidating and singing songs about George Hirst hating Palestine. simply asked them why does George Hirst hate Palestine to which one of them said 'shouldn't start wars you can't win' more and more of this weird behaviour going on at Ipswich games - witnessed a lot of this stuff in the past year where there seemed to be very little before anyone else finding this quite depressing and a bit difficult to take? tried that before after witnessing racism at another away game and it was so poorly dealt with the steward ended up very nearly making me a target the club (ITFC) was also abysmal in terms of any follow-up [Post edited 24 Feb 23:33]

| discrimination/abuse among town fans on 23:50 - Feb 24 with 3728 views | IP9 | This is a general reflection on society as a whole and imo has nothing to do with just 'ipswich town fans' - you can find comments and articles like this at every ground after every game in the last few seasons (not trying to justify it, but it's not an ipswich town problem). The rise of Reform will only empower certain portions of our population, which are potentially more condescend in football culture hence why you're feeling like you're seeing more of it... | | | |

I take your point but it doesn't change the fact that it has been a noticeable change amongst our own fanbase. imho, it's not just something that has been steadily increasing over the last four years either - it's been a stark increase in the past year - could name multiple occurrences of types of discrimination I hadn't heard in the previous 20+ years. would be nice to see other people calling this stuff out from time to time. just because it's a societal issue doesn't mean we don't have the power to influence the culture and acceptability amongst itfc fanbase.

First tweet I saw this morning was a Town fan saying how much he hates this team. Had ITFC in his username, too. We live in angry times.

Unfortunately some haven't evolved since Neanderthal times and still drag their knuckles along the ground. As a member of the LGTB+ tribe, I'd have had something to say to one particular nut job, and if it continued, it would be more than words! GH hating Palestine? It must have been half day at the lunatic asylum, they got let out early!

As a chant it’s pretty poor. Why can’t he just hate Norwich like the rest of us?

I said it the other day, but I have a mate who said he wouldn’t celebrate getting promoted because he doesn’t like this squad. It’s so weird.

The sense of entitlement isn’t just limited to some of our fanbase. I switched over to the last seconds of the Boro game last night. They were booed off at the final whistle. Before bearing Boro, a number of Coventry fans were calling for Lampard to be sacked to save their season. These are the teams in the top 2 who have so far exceeded all expectations. As others have said Opie sadly this is modern Britain. Disappointing but not surprised to hear that the club basically ignored you in the past though.

| discrimination/abuse among town fans on 08:38 - Feb 25 with 1959 views | DJR | I am fortunate enough not to have seen or heard such behaviour at the many away matches I have been to. I also travel back by train from every away game and can't say I've encountered it. But then again, I'd rather avoid a carriage full of Ipswich fans, especially those with crates of beer. Maybe I am just fortunate with where I have sat at games, and I never go the the bar in a stadium before the game. But it's very sad to hear that this sort of thing goes on. [Post edited 25 Feb 8:39]

Before when tickets were bit of a free for all I’d probably recognise about 80% of faces on an away day. Where has this new breed come from?

You may have also noticed this but a lot of the racist or homophobic stuff seems to be coming from a very young part of our fanbase. Not the old racists stuck in the the 70's and 80's but from a generation we would hope to be far more tolerant and understanding as they have grown up in a multicultural country which far more progressive views on sexuality.

George has been nipping over to Palestine to do a bit of covert genocide. It obviously must interfere with training given the jet lag, and he’ll never win all on his own anyway. It shouldn’t even need explaining 🙃
