The thing is not everyone is comfortable in confronting a bunch of blokes who might well be pissed or coked up.

I hear what you’re saying, but as someone else pointed out, this sort of thing seems to come up on here every few months and it quickly turns into another opportunity to bash the fanbase.
In this case the behaviour is obviously unacceptable, but let’s be honest, it’s the smallest of minorities.
If you genuinely see something like that happening, tell a steward, report it to the police, or email the club so it can actually be dealt with. Posting about it on a forum afterwards doesn’t really solve anything.

It's got worse this season in my experience of going away. I hadn't heard it being sung for maybe 10 years. This season twice. Along with the Hirst Palestine thing.

I’m not interested in ‘every team’ and nobody is making this into something it isn’t. We have a group of supporters that are ignorant, violent and odious. They represent the club. You and me and that shouldn’t be hidden from. They are also corrosive to the extent of why would you want to listen to that or bring a child to an environment like that?
This minority needs rooting out. A lifetime ban and a criminal record would suffice though a thorough limb breaking beating would probably get the message into thick skulls more effectively.
Justin Fashanu was a brave young man who took his life at the age of 37 in 1998. And people want to sing abuse about him? Perhaps somebody can explain to me why and that they get from it?
Words matter.
Because it makes them momentarily feel stronger in themselves, because they have found someone, or a group of people, to belittle. It's pathetic, and obviously all minority groups receive hate from hateful people, but every time I say this kind of event is evidence that football still should do more on LGBTQI support and awareness, whether that's rainbow laces or whatever, most people agree but the same few people downvote. I expect them to downvote here, and I see them on the side of the train c*unts mentioned by the OP.

No downvote from me. Yes, football should do more on all ‘isms’ (racism, sexism, ageism, discrimination on the grounds of sexuality, bullying etc etc). They have the profile and the money to do it too.
There’s no room for the above in my world.

We've got some absolute neanderthals in our fan base these days. Train home was absolutely appalling too. "Smithy" on the 7.49 out of Sheffield: Disgrace to the badge.

I may be wrong but im gonna guess its a bunch of slightly over 18 year olds doing it.
Theres a weird thing where youngsters seem like take football as an opportunity to get together drink and sing ridiculous song. Be as vile as they can but then feel thats enjoyment.
Years have passed since I ran frimleh. But we had a core group of youngsters who begun coming to watch games. Called themselves the frimleyaggro. It seemed a bit of fun at first wnd the players at that level laughed that they had their names sung etc. But what started off as fun begun changing. They attended u18 games and started signing fk off malfoy to a 16 year old opponent and giving him abuse all games just because of his appearence. Then during senior games the chants got worse.
It was difficult at the time because they increased the attendances thats what was needed yet at a cost. Fa fines came our way. Failing to control supporters etc..
They could have been a positive for the club. But rather than attend to enjoy the football they turned up with pyros. Sound systems and all sorts.

I feel like this is posted at some point every season.
It’s not a horrible element who attend ipswich away games only, every team has a minority amongst their supporters, including us. Don’t make this into something it is not.
Accidental upvote.
If you think this isn't exactly what it is, then you're part of the problem. Our club has the unfortunate legacy to be associated with this chant, and we should therefore be making extra effort to ensure it never takes any sort of hold in the fanbase.
Apologists are as bad as the perpetrators imo too - it just gives the impression that they'd be as inclined to join in with it, or similar chants.

Totally unacceptable, but our loudest and most often sung chant is the boring old anti Norwich "Hark now hear.... etc" Can't stand it myself. Just saying..

Yes and that's not singing about the football but about people fighting and other people running away.
Very 1970s/1980s.
Never forget that in April 2021, for ITFC, the Game Changed.

Yes, he had a trial with us in 1990 and played a game for the reserve side. We didn't sign him because of concerns about his knee, which had forced him to quit professional football a few years before.
If the neanderthals who persist in singing this filfth are not put off by the moral repugnantcy of the song, then perhaps this might cause them to think again.
I remember seeing him in a couple of reserve matches upfront with Raphael Meade. Looked like a really good partnership but obviously we never got to see it again Really saddens me when that chant rears its ugly head. I would hope in these days that fans would be clever and developed enough to not resort to racial or homophobic chants. It seems I was wrong

Posting about it on the forum surely doesn't hurt and it raises awareness that it's happening?
Pretty odd to be upset at someone doing that.
You've also got an upvote from Jack which is a clear sign you're wrong on this.

Maybe time for a revival of this song which reflected the attitudes that applied in Justin Fashanu's time - he first played for Norwich in 1979, a year after this was released - and would have contributed to his death. Sadly it seems they still do.
The British Police are the best in the world I don't believe one of these stories I've heard 'Bout them raiding our pubs for no reason at all Lining the customers up by the wall
Picking out people and knocking them down Resisting arrest as they're kicked on the ground Searching their houses and calling them queer I don't believe that sort of thing happens here
Pictures of naked young women are fun In Titbits and Playboy, page three of The Sun There's no nudes in Gay News, our one magazine But they still found excuses to call it obscene
Read how disgusting we are in the press The Telegraph, People and Sunday Express Molesters of children, corruptors of youth It's there in the paper, it must be the truth
Don't try to kid us that if you're discreet You're perfectly safe as you walk down the street You don't have to mince or make bitchy remarks To get beaten unconscious and left in the dark
I had a friend who was gentle and short He was lonely one evening, he went for a walk Queerbashers caught him and kicked in his teeth He was only hospitalized for a week And he still bears the scars
So sit back and watch as they close all our clubs Arrest us for meeting and raid all our pubs Make sure your boyfriend's at least twenty-one So only your friends and your brothers get done
Lie to your workmates, lie to your folks Put down the queens and tell anti-queer jokes Gay lib's ridiculous, join their laughter "The b*ggers are legal now, what more are they after"

He's playing the John Peel Centre in June, might even go along to that one!
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....
There was a really odious guy behind us in the ground yesterday, didn't hear this chant but the abuse he was levelling at Hirst was ridiculous for a so called fan. When we scored he lost all control of himself bouncing into people around him like some sort of pinball machine including my elderly mother. Had the misfortune to then be stood behind him on the crowded tram back into the city, he was clearly drunk and was swaying and knocking into me so much that I just put my hand up to protect myself, he then threatened me with violence, just obnoxious and an embarrassment.

There are some really pathetic people out there. You really shouldn’t have had to put up with that.

Nothing to do with ‘more enlightened’ times now either. It was still horrible when I first heard it in the late 80s / early 90’s and it is just as horrible now.

It's raised every couple of weeks how an 'element' of our fan base aren't perfect.
If the best you can do is post about it under an alias on a forum then you may as well just keep quiet.
That said, a great post for gaining upvotes.
What are you doing about it?

Read my earlier post. I litterally said that I stopped fans from singing it yesterday before the game in the concourse.
I also wouldn't have found the need to post about the occurrence had this thread not been created.
There are idiots everywhere. Posting on here won't stop that.
