| Strait of Hormuz 20:14 - Mar 14 with 3900 views | Kropotkin123 | You can make this up... Donald Trump, 8-Mar "That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them [ships] any longer — But we will remember. We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won!"" Donald Trump, 14-Mar "Hopefully China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others, that are affected by this artificial constraint will send ships to the area so that the Hormuz Strait will no longer be a threat by a nation that has been totally decapitated." In summary, he needs our ships to protect a shipping lane against an enemy that has allegedly been defeated, a week after saying he doesn't need them. [Post edited 14 Mar 20:15]

It’s a common mistake assume he thinks at all. I swear my cat Cuthbert gives more thought to his average day that Trump does. He just reacts like a pin ball machine. Imagine working for that?

Shock horror, Trump's international diplomacy means no one will come and join in. Reporter: Can you tell us which countries are on their way?
Trump: I rather not say yet. We have some that are really enthusiastic, they're coming already, they've already started to get there. It takes a little while to get there — Acyn (@acyn.bsky.social) 2026-03-16T17:54:23.801Z

| Strait of Hormuz on 19:29 - Mar 16 with 741 views | Oldsmoker | Trump wants NATO to go to the Persian Gulf. He hasn't read the NATO treaty. Persian Gulf is nowhere near the North Atlantic. There's an article in the treaty that says operations are restricted to north of the Tropic of Cancer and the Strait of Hormuz is below that line. The sunlight and wind that drives our renewables doesn't flow through the Strait of Hormuz. | |

The only time Article 5 has been triggered was after 9/11. By the US. In the subsequent wars the U.K. had in excess of 630 servicemen killed and 1000s wounded. I’ve met more than one widow of a serviceman killed in action in Afghanistan in the not too distant past and listened at length to the head of the medical facility of Helmand describing his time out there. To read Trump saying re NATO countries ‘Hundreds of Billions of Dollars per year protecting these same Countries, to be a one way street - We will protect them, but they will do nothing for us, in particular, in a time of need.’ Is beyond insulting. F U Trump. I have only one wish - that this country stop its disarmament and defence cuts program and starts looking out for itself with willing partners, not the US which has been an economic and military threat for much of its short history and now is again.

Again slagging off Starmer, (and Martin steps in to defend him. The Irish taoisrach defending the British PM. ON ST PATRICK'S DAY), and then a reporter from GBNews says that Starmer hasn't made the case to the UK for us to support the US militarily. What traitorous, unpatriotic snakes these people are - and I see Farage was spotting nonsense again earlier. Despicable low life collaborators.

| Strait of Hormuz on 17:23 - Mar 17 with 364 views | OldFart71 | As a nation we should be more worried about what we cannot do rather than what we won't do. Too many decisions have been made that have decimated our armed forces. The Tories thought they could reduce the number of regular soldiers saving lots of money and then bringing them back as reservists. It failed and even a lump sum for returning failed to seduce them back into the army. Mothballing of ships also to save money. Whilst the bill for keeping people at home grows by massive unsustainable portions the defence budget is minute in comparison. Even during the conflict with Afghanistan it was necessary to hire Antonov's from Russia to return Apache helicopters to the UK. We are an island surrounded by water and have a fierce tradition of having a great Navy. An Army that a soldier once told me would be far greater than America if they had the weaponry and an Airforce that prevented the Luftwaffe overrunning this country, Governments past and present should be ashamed of what this country has become. | | | |

I see HMS Rusting Tub has now left Gibraltar. Yay! Been a few delays apparently including headwinds in the Bay of Biscay. I presume the crew are rowing it then. Perhaps they should put a bedsheet on the little mast to help it along a bit. It’s 9 days since it left Portsmouth. https://www.forcesnews.com/ser https://www.forcesnews.com/ser Why bother. A show of strength? Bit pathetic really. Oh well, it looks like inaction and the ongoing defence cuts are going to mean the loss of the Akrotiri after this mess is over. Hurrah!! More savings!! It’s a policy decision to keep on cutting defence. Fine. If it’s the right thing to do, as governments have done for years, stop misrepresenting the truth Sir Kier. Spell out why and what’s important to the government and people can vote on it next time.

Why is this ship remotely important to the current situation? Its basically symbolic. I am appalled that B2s are still taking off from our land. If we suffer terrorist attacks, that decision is likely to be a contributing factor.

Some of the kit on the ageing old girl is pretty good, if it doesn’t break down or sink along the way, but it is symbolic. I suspect a reason will be found to not deploy it, like running out of oil or something. It’s just the government trying to look tough, but looking pathetic. As for American aircraft, perhaps Starmer, Cooper or Milliband should run around on the runway shouting ‘stop, stop, I want to check where you are going!’ In other words Sir Kier caved in to Trump’s demands. But he was a little too late. When a bully gets his way, he’ll always want more hence three weeks of public humiliation. Sir Kier hiding behind ‘International Law’, which no longer exists, won’t change that. My view on hiding from Iran will actually increase the risk of terrorist attack. It is human nature to exploit weakness. Nothing changes. Iran is already ‘attacking’ this country and has posed a threat for some time. See attached. https://commonslibrary.parliam Don’t get me wrong, I’m not supporting Trump’s idiotic ill thought out adventure, but Iran is what it is. To deny it is exactly the same mistake the U.K. made over Russia from 2014 onwards - and is still being made.

| Strait of Hormuz on 09:08 - Mar 20 with 52 views | BloomBlue | All the money spent on the war could have been used to build a canal to bypass it. It should be easy, I know when I took the kids to the beach, build a sand castle with a little moat and as the sea came in, it filled the moat. We only had plastic hand spades, with those massive diggers they have now they could build a massive type moat from Qatar to Oman in a couple of weeks at most. | | | |
