| Cryptic from Town 17:23 - Mar 18 with 4435 views | Zx1988 | Looks like a new Call Me Ted project about to make an appearance, maybe linking in with the history of the town and club? I suppose it could well be linked with the Capital of Culture long-listing, announced today? | |

Think it means that once upon a time the town was surrounded by walls with entry and exit points being at the North gate, South Gate, East gate and West gate.

Would we have heard about Clegg returning if the turnstiles were being upgraded? That shows how times have changed. Clegg: “we’ve painted the turnstiles!” Ashton: now we’ve installed a completely new pitch, updated all the back offices and team spaces, installed the new media suite and 100 other upgrades around the ground to PL standard, and overhauled the training facilities, we’re going to build a new stand and partner with the council in an international swimming pool, new fitness suite, multi-storey car park and a complete revamp of the pedestrianised spaces behind the Cobbold.

It's said that Simon Clegg sleeps under a mound on Rushmere Heath and if ever the turnstiles are in need, he will arise to paint them.

A bit like The "King Arthur Wake" legend, but instead of Arthur awakening in Britain's greatest hour of need, it’s Clegg who will rush with paintbrush in hand if the turnstiles of ITFC ever dare to show rust.

And we do have a spare squad space for him. Anddd, he was known to wear number 10 on occasion. This is why we've kept that shirt number free this season. Def info.

Bury had a wonderful set of medieval gates too. As usual, these were annihilated in the name of progress in the 1700s

I walked through Balkerne Gate in Colchester at the weekend, apparently the largest surviving Roman gateway in Britain. It's quite interesting how you can walk across the footbridge from a 1970s multi-story car park to a nearly 2,000-year-old piece of Roman wall.
