Embarrassed and a bit ashamed of the club today 19:47 - Mar 23 with 17054 viewsNutkins_Return

I'm sure I'll get a bit of 'i'm overreacting' downvotes but genuinely feel disgusted and embarrassed that reform our being hosted at our club. Personally don't think the club should be getting involved in anything with a political leaning to it from any party. But to host reform, and that cretinous toad Farage has really shocked me.
That's bad judgement and and Ashton has just sunk down massively in my estimation for allowing this.

Someone needs sacking for that lack of judgement. I hope Ashton didn't know about this (impossible) and apologises.

Gross.

Except it's not clear that any red carpet was rolled out at all, or permissions given.

The fact the photo's are on X and remain on X show permission was given

And to meet a senior club official at the club shows that we were aware of who visiting.

What about kids that are little gits that book birthday parties at town? Should be banned? Players that have been prosecuted?

It is literally a business decision to hire the venue. If anything the club is taking money out of their pocket.

The bottom line is, you don't own Portman Road so, it really has f all to do with you. If you are so fragile that people can't have different opinions to you and you want them silenced as opposed to conversing with them then it says more about you.

Players who have been prosecuted? Can I shock you? I don't want criminal footballers associated with ITFC either.

And because we don't own Portman Road, we're not supposed to have an opinion on...anything?
Rubbish.

People can have different opinions, that's fine. Having those opinions associated with my football club, isn't. Farage can spout as much hateful sh** out of his smug gammon face as he likes. Not under a town badge though

Our football club. And that is your problem. You identify with a concept and think it is yourself. Weird.

And before you jump to assumptions much like most on here. No I am not a Farage supporter. He is much of a puppet as Starmer et al. The fact anyone buys into this soap opera called politics is hilarious.

This visit has not attracted any attention on MSM at all,it’s only on here and Facebook that it has been mentioned anywhere! All right you don’t like the bloke but are you all going to be giving up your season tkts in protest? I would venture to suggest the vast majority of town fans didnt even know about the visit and probably are not giving it a second thought.

That's going to change. The MSM has picked it up...just nothing published yet.

So NF was speaking, being filmed and broadcast from the Portman Rd pitch without any permission from ITFC.

Just as scandalous from a security breach point of view. Imho.

Any idea who said this?

“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

SBR.
However as he and you are pointing out the things that Farage is associated are pointed as not being the club. The buildings, the directors. So you kind of dismissed your point with your point. He's not a town fan, he's using the available facilities. Much like away fans do, and we certainly don't identify with them do we? Calm the F down and realise this is all pantomime.

Never seen away fans in our dressing room holding up their specially printed Town shirts against the sponsors' backdrop; nor broadcasting with a film crew from the PR pitch, tbh.

Pretty sure away fans are broadcasted every home game that is televised.

I understand you disagree with the man's politics, so do I. However I also understand the current world of publicity and photo ops. He pops up all over the place as do all those seeking to curry favour. I've lost track of how many politicians I have encountered, all of them narcissistic and none of them aligned with the places they appear. This shall pass and be forgotten by all but the 6 fingered with NR postcodes, just as they still recall an obscure episode of Lovejoy.

Did he pay for the shirt? Pretty sure you have whatever you want printed if you are paying. I can go buy a NCFC shirt and have Inbred printed on the back if I pay. I wouldn't , I'd never touch one or want to give them any money.
I'm not on his side. But I am also seeing a huge mountain being made out of a mole hill.

No downvote from me, and it's not just Farage, it's anything connected to Politics involving any so called party. I pretty much loathe all politicians whoever they claim to represent, ( it's pretty much themselves ). I'm guessing that will never happen again!

One thing this, and other threads, on here show is that an awful lot of the population do not get the current Reform phenomenon. They are polling high, Farage has a certain appeal to a significant minority of people in this country at the moment.

I don’t like it and dread the thought that he might have some influence in a future government. But we have to accept that many people in the country are desperate for a change from the stale old politics of the last couple of decades. They seem drawn to his plain speaking like moths to light.

In my opinion we have to wake up to this and instead of name calling and insulting him and others (as we’ve seen on here today) we need to engage at an adult level. His politics is the politics of division and we have to rise above that - on here and in the real world.

Just my take, fwiw.

I despise all Politicians, but how can you be outraged about this while happily backing the previous club captain being anti-LGBTQ+? Or wanting a convicted drug driver back at the club?

Don’t feel like going again this season? They haven’t said no to any political party so would allow any party to do the same. Seems like a democracy isn’t for you or you’re not really a supporter.

I agree with the sentiment. Democracy IS for me, but considered party politics and not knee-jerk populism. Also a supporter, but football is a game, democracy is bigger. Your suggestion is simplistic.

Personally I think it's embarrassing, but I am surprised by the sheer strength of feeling on this issue. I am not ashamed of the club. I think that puts it too strongly.

It was a PR horlicks. I really really dislike Farage. There will of course be some fans who will vote for his party. Personally I can't understand why, but there will definitely be some.

The club shouldn't be associating themselves with any party in my view. It's more annoying because it's Farage, but the principle applies across the board. I really don't think that a photo op with a shirt is sleaze, racism or extremism on the club's part.

Learn, understand why quite a lot of fans are angry, and move on, I think.
