Embarrassed and a bit ashamed of the club today 19:47 - Mar 23 with 19635 viewsNutkins_Return

I'm sure I'll get a bit of 'i'm overreacting' downvotes but genuinely feel disgusted and embarrassed that reform our being hosted at our club. Personally don't think the club should be getting involved in anything with a political leaning to it from any party. But to host reform, and that cretinous toad Farage has really shocked me.
That's bad judgement and and Ashton has just sunk down massively in my estimation for allowing this.

Someone needs sacking for that lack of judgement. I hope Ashton didn't know about this (impossible) and apologises.

Gross.

They didn't host a meeting or an event, Reform booked a tour. Can see both angles on why it should or shouldn't have been allowed. A big song and dance would no doubt have been made had they refused to allow them to do so.

The club were in a no-win situation, if they refused, Reform make a big song and dance about not being allowed on something open to the general public, if they let Reform in, then Reform make a big play of how they were "allowed/invited/whatever" to go round ITFC - in a town that they will be making a play for at the next election.

This is the problem with incompetent shameless grifters, they will use any opportunity (good or bad) to push their agenda - then again, you might say any political party would do the same - and that's the damage that Farage is doing - even people/parties that aren't incompetent shameless grifters (ok, some might say they're all incompetent shameless grifters anyway!) have to copy him if they want to keep themselves in the spotlight. And the public get ever more cynical.

Let's see what Reform put out off the back of it – assuming there is some kind of party political broadcast based on their tour of PR coming up. If they have leveraged ITFC for such a thing then the club should distance themselves from it heavily and publicly – if not I'll be utterly disgusted.

Host seems to indicate they invited them.

Unless I have missed it, the club didn't endorse any political party. They took a private booking, much like they do with 6th form proms and birthday parties.

I am sure there are plenty of season ticket holders all over the political spectrum that use the clubs facilities a few times a month!

That's not the meaning of host. You certainly don't need to Invite someone to host them. Hosting is to accommodate them/ provide accomodation or facilities which it seems we have done.

I very much doubt they'd be allowed to film it without specific permission, especially if it's for grifting purposes

I absolutely detest any right wing political parties, but especially frog face and his mob of scum.
Surely the easiest thing to have done is to say that we don’t accept any bookings from ANY political parties.
I do feel shocked at Town accepting the booking, for me it just doesn’t fit our ethos.

Disagree on you regarding this.

Reform booked it and probably were quite open about who they were. They may well appeal to the baseline of society but they are not an illegal organisation and it’s not down to the club to deem legal entities to be unwelcome.

Plus imagine the free PR for those idiots if the club cancelled their booking - you’ll have pricks protesting dressed as St George waving Sports Direct England flags outside the ground.

Probably best to simply take the booking and hope they tidy up after themselves.

If Reform are happy that pubs - or Jeremy Clarkson - choose to deny entry to Labour politicians on political grounds then there should be no argument about them being denied access to facilities elsewhere.

Bit weird to downvote facts based on knowing your clubs history and who both men were and what they believed.

The money from which will ultimately help strengthen all areas of the club including the ITFC Foundation and its initiatives such as Refugee Football. I'm sure their members would be proud to see their donations spent this way in helping support asylum seekers in our community.

For what it’s worth, I completely agree with you.

However, a lot of people will point to that fact that they are largely seen at the main opposition party for the next general election, despite having very few MPs.

I think football clubs about be a bit like the Beeb, impartial and offering fair coverage to all parties.

Phil has clarified in the other thread that it wasn't the club 'hosting' them, more that Reform booked the facilities, which leaves the club in an awkward position. Accept the booking and they piss off some support, or cancel it and be sure that Reform will be all over the media about cancel culture etc.
[Post edited 23 Mar 19:58]

Easiest way out was to cancel it and make sure the world knows we don't host any political or religious meetings for any reason, ever. Might still upset a few, but who cares?

By the looks of it, it was a fundraiser for their “Patrons Club”. Only £1,000+ and you too can rub shoulders with racist feckwits! (Mullers posted a link of pics that are presumably from the event).

If it was only a private stadium tour that’s nothing, but letting out rooms to them to raise funds to promote hatred is a bid of a bad look imo.

That’s fair enough. But I’m still not happy at all about a football club hosting any political party for any purpose.

Edit: and that includes the local MP. If he wants to buy a ticket as a private individual like anyone else fine.

Whoever the MP for Ipswich is, they have always been allocated a ticket for matches, no matter which party they represented.

Don't see the big deal. Conference room, tours, these are available to anyone who wants to book them and pay the club for the service. It's not an endorsement or show of support from the club. Reform were not specifically invited. They are a legal organisation.

Yes, I'd say the same if The Muslim Brotherhood, Jehova's Witnesses or the Communist League of Britain were the ones taking a tour.

I'd also bet money that there's a significant minority of the fanbase that would have been equally annoyed if we had "Reform refused entry to Portman Road" headlines this morning. Club was right not to make it 'a thing' by refusing.
