Embarrassed and a bit ashamed of the club today 19:47 - Mar 23 with 18205 viewsNutkins_Return

I'm sure I'll get a bit of 'i'm overreacting' downvotes but genuinely feel disgusted and embarrassed that reform our being hosted at our club. Personally don't think the club should be getting involved in anything with a political leaning to it from any party. But to host reform, and that cretinous toad Farage has really shocked me.
That's bad judgement and and Ashton has just sunk down massively in my estimation for allowing this.

Someone needs sacking for that lack of judgement. I hope Ashton didn't know about this (impossible) and apologises.

Gross.

I think that's fair enough, but equally if they had cancelled the booking, which I believe wasn't in the name 'N Farage', once they were aware who it was, a significant song and dance would no doubt have been made about it. I think the club would also have seen banning them in that manner as a political act when representatives of other parties have been on tours. Equally, Reform is very much contrary to the values of inclusiveness the club promotes through its involvement in things like Rainbow Tractors and its refuge football initiative.

If the club genuinely believes in those values then they need to stand up for them and make it clear that people who oppose those values aren't welcome

Sorry, I disagree
One thing hosting and saying it was not in the name of 'Farage' but he has a shirt, he is posing in the club. That had to have been agreed in advance

Not necessarily.

A bunch of "Farage" printed shirts may have been ordered in advance, and separately. Or were even printed elsewhere without the clubs involvement at all.

Then used for a quick ninja photo op before anyone official at the club had the chance to say "er hang on, wait a minute..."

In short, this may all just be clever work by team Nige to get a quick photo op in. In which case, you *would* expect the club to quickly disown it, of course.....

I hear what you're saying Phil, but I don't fully agree,

It would've been significantly easier to say "we don't allow political endorsements" than to backtrack now.

But I do agree the club have a responsibility to be inclusive, family-orientated and inclusive. To allow a politician to use its ground, shirt and branding to promote their ideology (whatever it is) is unacceptable in every way.

Don’t feel like going again this season? They haven’t said no to any political party so would allow any party to do the same. Seems like a democracy isn’t for you or you’re not really a supporter.

Embarrassed and a bit ashamed of the club today on 21:32 - Mar 23 by Ewan_Oozami

The club were in a no-win situation, if they refused, Reform make a big song and dance about not being allowed on something open to the general public, if they let Reform in, then Reform make a big play of how they were "allowed/invited/whatever" to go round ITFC - in a town that they will be making a play for at the next election.

This is the problem with incompetent shameless grifters, they will use any opportunity (good or bad) to push their agenda - then again, you might say any political party would do the same - and that's the damage that Farage is doing - even people/parties that aren't incompetent shameless grifters (ok, some might say they're all incompetent shameless grifters anyway!) have to copy him if they want to keep themselves in the spotlight. And the public get ever more cynical.

How is it a no-win situation?

Refuse and be known as the club who turned away the most dangerous, sh*t-stirring grifter our country has seen for generations... accept and be known as the club who's on board with him.

It's easy to say you stand for stuff when it's easy.

The club wilfully missing of the point over the Morsy controversy made me similarly angry. It was pathetic.

I presume this one was a mistake, but you can win back a lot of people with a strong statement distancing yourself from him,

The tours are guided, you don't just walk around on your own so getting quick ninja photo's wouldn't apply, the fact he's sitting in the press room, having a photo done, that's very easy for the tour guide to stop. Same as the dressing room one.. taking down other shirts to put his up.. you're waiting for them to do it, they don't just move on from part of the tour and go set it up in preparation for a quick ninja photo.

What about kids that are little gits that book birthday parties at town? Should be banned? Players that have been prosecuted?

It is literally a business decision to hire the venue. If anything the club is taking money out of their pocket.

The bottom line is, you don't own Portman Road so, it really has f all to do with you. If you are so fragile that people can't have different opinions to you and you want them silenced as opposed to conversing with them then it says more about you.

I love ITFC, but a large number of the fans are bellends

This visit has not attracted any attention on MSM at all,it’s only on here and Facebook that it has been mentioned anywhere! All right you don’t like the bloke but are you all going to be giving up your season tkts in protest? I would venture to suggest the vast majority of town fans didnt even know about the visit and probably are not giving it a second thought.

There seems to be two issues here - one that the club allowed the tour to take place, but also how Farage/Reform have used images from the tour for political purposes.

Have you heard any rumblings through your usual sources around how the club is reacting to the latter and whether they are planning on taking any action regarding it?

What has he been convicted of? Racist behaviours? Murder? Theft? Incitement? To my knowledge he’s not been convicted of anything beyond breech of the MPs code - a dubious honour he shares with Starmer and many others.

As such he is just MP for Clacton (a lazy one but people must have voted for him for a reason) and leader of a political party that commands a lot of popular support. Yes I believe he is exactly as you describe him. His name was pronounced Farridge at school (a fact) and he swaps the pint with a glass of wine as soon as the camera is off him (fact). If he walked in a room I was in I’d walk out.

But the club allowing him through the door does not make them ‘on board with him’. Putting themselves in a position to be used by politicians is the point and that’s something that needs to be addressed.
