Embarrassed and a bit ashamed of the club today 19:47 - Mar 23 with 17786 viewsNutkins_Return

I'm sure I'll get a bit of 'i'm overreacting' downvotes but genuinely feel disgusted and embarrassed that reform our being hosted at our club. Personally don't think the club should be getting involved in anything with a political leaning to it from any party. But to host reform, and that cretinous toad Farage has really shocked me.
That's bad judgement and and Ashton has just sunk down massively in my estimation for allowing this.

Someone needs sacking for that lack of judgement. I hope Ashton didn't know about this (impossible) and apologises.

Gross.

LOL what a terrible look that is. Wonder if we made the shirts up for them or if they did the printing themselves.

They’d have pre ordered from Planet Blue. I wish somebody has printed c**t on the back.

I would encourage everyone who is angry at this to let mark know, I have. It really is a poor look for the club at the moment and personally I think he should be aware of peoples concerns. If it doesn' bother you fine but I think politics needs to be kept out of football

Well this is embarrassing to say the least. There's no way this would have happened without sign-off from the top either.

Hosting any political party is a stupid, stupid decision by a football club. Your supporters are bound to be 50/50 on them personally. Just utterly, utterly stupid.

Oi! I’ve already claimed that. He can have Tvvat

It’s not a good look. They should do some community work to rebuild from this. There must be a few local kids charities that would appreciate a visit and tour.

Obviously some people will see this as an exaggerated reaction, but if people can’t see that Farage represents the opposite of what the club has always stood for they obviously don’t know us.

Thing is. If it was Labour or tories then thats poor yet fine as they are the two big parties who people like or dont like but are normal parties

Reform is a very specific party

Its incredibly bad for itfc imo to be linked with them.

Club are between a rock and a hard place here. If a political party, of whatever leaning, books the venue and the club says "we don't want you here" then ITFC becomes a political football. Unpalatable as it is, it's probably easier to take the booking rather than have thousands of reform fans sending hate mail etc

Easy to put in your T&C's that bookings from or on the behalf of Political parties will not be accepted to remain within The "No Politics" Doctrine set out by FIFA, Article's 16 and 44 set out by UEFA etc.

It's a really poor indictment on a club that professes to understand and value diversity - and yet is rolling out the red carpet to someone so vitriolic and divisive.

People on this thread are saying it would've been difficult for the club to refuse as it would have led to headlines about being 'cancelled' by the club. I work in comms for the NHS where we need to be apolitical. The justification would've just been a blanket policy of 'Apologies we do not host political parties and party-led events.'

This is a real comms own goal by the club. They've either outed themselves as Reform apologists, or backed themselves into a corner where they'll need to do the same for Zack, Kemi, Keir, and Screaming Lord Sutch of the Monster Raving Loony Party...

We don’t actually know that. In fact if I was I betting person I would guess the owners were not aware and wouldn’t understand even if they were.

The point remains - I’d be equally annoyed of Sir Starmer, Greens, Tories, NF, Libs, Corbyn or Lord Buckethead were allowed to do this. It’s a football club, not a rallying point for politicians. There is a line to be drawn and ANY use of the club in the political arena steps over it for me.

Using a function room privately is bad enough, but it happens all the time. Clubs rent out space for all sorts of things. Work took me to events in Stamford Bridge, Oval, Lords and a few other places besides and I know that all sorts, good and bad pay their money. Ok, the club has to bring in income so needs to be flexible in terms of who uses its facilities - but not that flexible.

I loathe Farage’s crowd. I’ve made that perfectly clear but I’d feel just as annoyed about it had Labour, Tories or any other crowd used it.

Poor decision whoever made that one in my view. But the best thing to do is let the matter die and not give Reform the oxygen of publicity. The club will be monitoring sites like this and will already know it wasn’t the smartest.

I'm a bit surprised people are BBC-ing this by saying they'd be "equally annoyed if it were the greens or labour" etc.

I wouldn't. I am far more annoyed that it's Farage.

I'm absolutely disgusted by this. The club should be ashamed of themselves.

Ask Mr Farage what he thinks of all our community projects. LGBTQ football sessions, refugee football sessions ? I imagine he would call it all woke nonsense.

I hope Ashtons emails are flooded by people who are unhappy by this. What a way to alienate your fanbase

Farage with his name on the back of my club's shirt. An individual who told his Jewish contemporaries that Hitler was right. Disgust doesn't even come close to describing my feelings.

Thing is,no politics should be the policy, not even the main 2 parties. Keep politics out of sport all together. If MPs want to buy a ticket and come to a match off their own backs, then that is totally different

How about a separate space within TWtD for political threads, or just don't have them altogether.
Political threads always get the most traction - naturally as they divide opinion and peoples views are often strong. Sometimes I think that if a random person stumbled across this forum they'd take a while to realise it was a forum for a football club.

This request comes up quite regularly when there are political discussions.

I think the following arguments represent the general consensus around here:

*Politics affects everything. You can't pretend it doesn't exist.

*Most contributors of this board are capable of a healthy and reasonable debate. I think the the threads we've seen on recent matters demonstrate this.

*When people cross the line, Phil is pretty effective at sorting it out fast, deleting inappropriate posts, and banning offenders.

*The "football vs general" filters are there for a reason and work pretty well as is. We don't need further fracturing of the forum structure.

*You are free to ignore threads you do not want to participate in.

Disagree, it's not just one to let die without a thought, Ashton needs to know how disgusting it is that he's allowed the club to part of the reform tour.
