| The Farage stuff looks even worse this morning for the club on 10:04 - Mar 24 by DanTheMan | If he was MP of the area, I could vaguely understand this. I wouldn't like it, but I'd understand. But he's not. I'm astonished they've rolled the red carpet out for him. |
It would be cheap from any MP or any persausion and it's not like Tom Hunt has been up at the club and got photos but even he didn't go to these lengths This really is poisonous for club, the reputational damage this does potentially is not good at all

| The Farage stuff looks even worse this morning for the club on 10:34 - Mar 24 by itfcjoe | No offence to Phil/TWTD....but if the club think they can just get away with a "no official involvement" briefing on this rather than a proper robust official statement then all they are doing is digging themselves a bigger hole and showing the sort of judgement that will go from "someone should be sacked" to "someone must be sacked" |
Indeed. They need, urgently, to do a good deal better in their explanations and to put some clear distance between themselves and Farage. That process is likely to lead to national press publicity- but that is the situation they have created (or failed to take steps to avoid).

Yep, total insult to the intelligence of the fans and a complete lack of understanding about what the issue is.

They will with the local press though. I can't blame Phil for protecting his income stream, but it's fairly clear that the club now has the local media in its pocket. The club will issue the official line, and the media will publish it.

Nor Farage being greeted by Marcus Nash (linkedin says he is our comms director...) My hope is the club are onto a proper PR agency to belatedly respond properly on this. It's clear we do not have the expertise inhouse.

Makes me more suspicious, if anything. They've wafted a hand at it in the expectation that it will go away.

| The Farage stuff looks even worse this morning for the club on 10:29 - Mar 24 by redrickstuhaart | Pretending they are not bigotted and racist is normalising and paving the way for them. It makes their racism and bigotry increasingly acceptable and emboldens people. Call it out when you see it before its too late. That does nto detract from the wider point that one has to try to understand and engage with why people are drawn to them. Though a lot of that has to do with right wing media, propaganda and divisive politics. |
If you don’t want to then that’s fine. This video explains it well from Gary Stevenson. Common ground is the best way to engage with someone and trust me in 99% of cases, there will be common ground. The majority of green, labour and reform voters, funnily enough have the same issues - struggling to pay rent, dealing with inflation etc etc but where the issues remain in opinion is by the cause of said issues and also the solution. If you can find common ground in the issues, I can guarantee in 80% of convos with people you can the solution and the cause. You’ve even admitted a lot of it is to do with media and divisive politics - if that is how someone absorbs there news then it’s no surprise that is how they view the issues, it’s up to people like us to explain why they’re wrong and how that form of media is biased - help to educate people. Just calling people racist and bigoted will only add fuel to the fire.

You need both approaches. Pretending its not bigotry when we see it, emboldens and enables the bigotry. It is, in effect, collaboration and appeasement. A few years ago I would haev said such terms were OTT but the last few months of Trump show us exactly how real and imminent the risks are.

Not preventing him from booking a conference room is one thing and I can understand why the couldn't or wouldn't do that but allowing him to use the club to publicise him and his party is a different matter. Think I'll email Ashton, even though it won't make a difference how, and really feeling uneasy about financially supporting the club in light of this.

I assume they have some expensive lawyers deciding on what they can get away with, as Reform will absolutely rebut anything that doesn't align with the true activities yesterday.
