I have worked for big companies and people just disappear, that is just how it works. Any shift of power is met with silence until those holding the fort put up a statement and decide on a way forward.

Sounds right to me. Oddly enough, we had a similar thing with a very senior member of staff posting support for Tommy Robinson recently. One week he was on compassionate leave, the next we got an email saying he'd left.

You still don't get the bits about it being self-inflicted, lying to the Press, putting colleagues in a difficult position, lack of good judgement, allowing the club and shirt to be used in a party political promotional video, arrogant disrespect for the feelings of many supporters, and failing to respond once it became a media storm.
Ashton did all of the above. He has damaged the reputation of the club, severely damaged the relationship between the club and media and made the situation worse with his response to staff and lack of public response.
If he had met Farage for lunch at a local hotel in a private dining room, even if Farage or he had posted a photo of them together, then that would have been entirely different. Some people would have grumbled, of course, because Farage is a deeply divisive figure, but it wouldn't have been a serious issue.
This is totally different. The multiple Number 10 shirts being printed specifically for the promotional video put it in a different category from meeting someone, and the way it has been handled since can only be described as an utterly incompetent PR disaster.
Ashton has sowed the seeds of division, destroyed trust with the media (including local media relationships) and then shown arrogance, appalling judgement and a failure of leadership and accountability over the last few days.
Is he that incompetent, or was it deliberate? Will be become the Stone Island wearing, terrace culture, anti-woke martyr and get a job organising Reform, and maybe become a candidate in a target seat?

He got so carried away - when you are NOT the money in the room, you can’t act like god. There has to be accountability, and it’s obvious there has been none.
Even Ed has more clout, he puts money in, not taking it out…, losing owners, sponsors, players, managers. Coaches, supporters, tea ladies, etc

Feck me, just from a commercial aspect, I’d love ten minutes in a room with him, I’d make him look the low rent, low iq, self interested, incompetent, god complex, 35 year failure, he is.
There would be tea cups - lots of tea cups .., and I’d have Godfather music piped in, and a very long silence at the start - holding my finger up for silence if he tries to speak.
He’d get 5 minutes to leave the building…, and if his clothes were on expenses. He’d be doing so naked …, and a press release highlighting his gross negligence and aspiration he never works in football again.., no niceties. No mutual respect .., just the contempt for him, that he’s shown to our club!!!
I’d have the media team film his penguin walk of shame to his car, Clip it up and send it across club socials - then take out a front page ad at Express newspapers and put it there .., might as well start his political career as he means to go on.

The second bit has nothing to do with political views.
We have important local elections coming up in May. It is unacceptable for the CEO/Chairman of the club to let *any* party use the club for PR purposes.
They said as much in the original statement, which is when they were claiming we'd been hijacked by Reform.
Turns out that wasn't true, so not only did Ashton, the most senior member of staff at the club *and* chair of the board, break that rule, he then lied about it.
He should therefore resign. He's not a comms officer who's made a mistake: he's basically the head of the club and he's seriously affected our reputation. *That's* why people are angry, not becuase they're "left-wing". | | | |

most of the people calling for his head aren't "lefties", many are brexiteers, many lifelong right-wing voters, many who couldn't give a monkeys about politics.

I think that's disingenuous tbh. Not all of us jumped to conclusions when the Farage visit became public. I chose chose to believe the club (after all i support them and want the best for them). Sadly since then more has come to light.
I like to trust people and give them the benefit of the doubt rather than believe unproven hearsay or rumour.
In this instance I was wrong. Maybe I was naive. It doesn't really help unity within the fanbase that now most on here are standing together in believe that Ashton has to go that we then have a bit of a pop at those who took a while to get to that point.
And that's just an example of the toxic by product that this sorry and sordid episode is bringing.
Bring back the love folks. We're in this together. We're united (well almost) in what we now think of Ashton - let's not bicker between ourselves. |  |
