In all honesty Pete, no

Because Starmer is the PM. So like it or lump it, it actually makes sense to welcome him to Portman Road. Especially with the City of Culture bid going in

But I would be this angry if we'd lied about it (which we have) or if it was any of the opposition party leaders because it just makes no sense for the club to tie their colours to the mast

I'm not sure whether asking the same question everyday will get you answers.

The simple truth is that while this is a huge issue to fans, maybe not all, but certainly a vocal and significant section, in the overall scheme of things it is a minor issue to the likes of Schwartz, Simon, Bakay etc. They have run far bigger organisations than the likes of Town, and are used to the US political system which has become even more divisive that UK politics in the last 10 years.

They can without doubt see that it has some reputational impact, which I imagine they expect to blow over but as there is no current regulatory, legal or financial impact on the club they will leave it. It may change should we see a direct impact from sponsors or minority shareholders, but unless something brings this back to the forefront of news in the next couple of days, they won't want to re-stoke the fire.

It may not be what fans want, but it's what I expect to happen, especially as Monday's news is already becoming today's fish and chip wrapping (now there's a reference for the teenagers on here).

At the risk of actually sounding like a politician ..... i don't think keeping quiet and lying are quite the same thing, the club did not publicise this at all.

And ... i think the fact that most people are angry it was Farage and not politicians in general means they're now using this as platform to air their own political views and that isn't right either

"Monday's news is already becoming today's fish and chip wrapping"

It's grown arms and legs since Monday. If anything Monday was a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of coverage it's getting now

It's not really though outside of local or ipswich town news feeds - I am seeing less and less of it on my feeds - and non town supporting colleagues / friends have not mentioned it since Weds.

Off the top of my head, the things that the club have lied about

1. It was just a normal private stadium tour
2. There wasn't any meetings between club and party
3. We're apolitical
4. The shirts weren't gifted

What "fact" that most people are angry that it was Farage and not politicians in general? It was Farage so that's literally the only example we have, hence why his name is being used and why people are giving their opinion of him. Lots and lots of people have said that the club shouldn't entertain any politicians in general

FWIW i've also seen lots of people give their opinion on Polanski but it seems to be based around his teeth, which is bizarre, pointless and pathetic

Yep, I'd be absolutely gutted to see his grinning feck1n head holding up a Starmer 10 shirt. Or sat in the changing room surrounded by a handful of Starmer 10 shirts.
Would be horrified by the idea that the club would allow itself to be used as a vehicle for Keirs re-election.
Wouldn't you?
Or would you be happy to see those images?

I don't live in Ipswich and it's very much still a talking point amongst my friends and colleagues. But individual examples are rubbish as it's such a small sample size

The New York times tweeted about it last night. That's probably a good sign that this is very much still a big topic, regardless of how much you say it isn't

I wonder why publicising a lunch, personal tour, phot op, merch and actively courting such a divisive figure didn't happen?

Your point is a moot one. It only comparable to other leaders if they had the same treatment and in return ITFC were grifted for party political content from the side of the ground and inside the dressing room. That, surely for all sides can be seen as wholly inappropriate. The club has lied, defected, hunkered down for the long term and without an apology regarding lack of judgement or Ashton leaving, we will have a fractured fan base for the long term. NF said about keeping politics out of sport, and he does the opposite, that's his schtick.

How do you feel Anis Mehmneti feels after his shirt taken down for the photo shoot and a politician sat in his dressing room space who calls out and looks down on his country and race? Also, when did just having a bit of thoughtfulness, compassion and empathy for others become a bad thing?

Not had a single work meeting/call since it happened where it hasn't been brought up - even from non-football fans. Mainly UK based, but a couple of calls with US/South African suppliers and it has been brought up. Mutliple messages from friends outside of that.

Perhaps not living in Suffolk, I'm the only Ipswich fan they know so I'm a lighting rod for all ITFC matters good and bad.

Technically I am not sure they have lied about any of that stuff. Bent the truth to the max, yes. Lied by omission, perhaps, but each of these can be twisted.

I inviting people to stay for lunch at the end of their tour is subtly different to arranging a visit for them. It’s semantics, and it leaves a sour taste for sure, but we need to be careful about some of the accusations.

And none of it means the club isn’t apolitical.

What you can say is the Club didn't openly publicise the visit of Farage. Not, say, in the same was they have with Jason Schechterle. I wonder why?

Meeting Farage is a choice of Ashtons's and in and of itself not the end of the world. Allowing the Club to then be used for Reform promotion and then denying/ obfuscating events around the event is really where the issues lies.

All of which is against what we are as a Club.

I'm no fan of Starmer, but ...

I suspect that, on a personal level, he'd have too much respect for the game to partake in such an exercise.

Ed Davey on the other hand ...

Yep. If the meeting had gone ahead without any Reform-side promotion, I don't think anyone could've complained. It's a man's right to entertain/socialise with whoever he wants to. But to use the club as a political pawn and then double-down on the lies and deceit to fans and staff is a big red line for me.

This is it isn't it. They obviously knew how it would be perceived which was why they didn't make a big song and dance about it themselves. They strangely didn't bank on Farage/Reform making a huge deal of it on social media and they lost all control of the situation.

The biggest issue for me has come from the reaction in the aftermath - the lies and the obfuscation. If MA had come out and said "we did meet him, we did give him a tour and we were naive about how the media that was shot would be used/portrayed as a political endorsement - sorry to our fanbase" then quite a lot would still probably not be happy but it wouldn't be half as bad and you couldn't throw 'dishonesty' at MA.
