I know there are strong feelings on all this but I don't think there's any need for the personal abuse.

Being fair Phil, it’s been going on for days.

I’d like to apologise for calling you thick, and implying your IQ is lower than your shoe size. Sorry. I let myself down.

Implying we’d sue someone WE invited to the club, made lunch, and held his cameras, for an image he used from that ‘love in’ tipped me over the edge…, I don’t cope well with ‘stupid’ and I need to do better - much better.

I promise in future I’ll step back before reacting.

Imagine they’d be sharing ‘lol’s’ before they’d be annoyed by an image they’d both really like and enjoy …, the issue when one person has full executive control,
And does speak for the whole club, and we did that! .., not sure who you thought would sue, obviously not Ashton FC.

So I’m sorry. I don’t know you well enough to say you’re thick. I’ll use more sensitive phrases like ‘critical evaluation light’ in future, and try to be a better person.

Also we need to stand together, so if you ever criticise me, it’s because you hate our club, just saying, it’s not gas lighting, like Mark, I just really care, we aren’t sociopaths, we’re just empathetic on such an advanced scale, nobody can see : )) enjoy your Sunday

Just wondering why you choose to throw broad insults rather than engage with people's reasonably stated concerns? You don't have to agree with them, clearly your, and my opinion differ. I am very interested in hearing your point of view, as there maybe something I am missing.

However, it does mean that you would need to engage in the same level of good faith that I am attempting to engage in with you.

Ashton out

That's good of you to make that apology.

Did anyone actually suggest the club would sue Farage? That would be a stupid suggestion. I have only seen suggestions that the artist Louise Cobbold could sue the party Reform for misuse of her image and artwork in promoting their party and abhorrent ideology. That would be down to lawyers to advise on whether there are proper legal grounds with any chance of success but, on the face of it, that would seem a reasonable thing to do.

While I broadly understand where you're coming from here Phil, as my grandad would have said, we don't ignore fascists, we punch them in the face.

He'd have appreciated that.

He was a Para in the war, only made two operational jumps, the second of which was at Arnhem.

Like most of the blokes who made it back, he didn't breathe a word of it. He left me his journals and they're absolutely harrowing.

Absolute lion of a man - no time for racists or fascists. Or the French, but that's a different story, for another day!

Buried in Stibbard, Norfolk.

Don’t worry about it- I did a flounce once, disappeared for 6/7 years, came back and carried on posting like a knob head. Don’t get so worked up over nothing, everyone on here is a relative stranger and almost everyone’s a total knob head.

Would you consider publishing those journals or do you think he wouldn't have wanted that or you/your family wouldn't?

I would suggest he wrote them down because he wanted others to know (although it may simply have been cathartic) and they would be a valuable historical resource of interest to people.

I fully understand if you/your family wouldn't want them published, though.

Well, young Phil. If you carry on letting your favourites abuse people for daring to think differently about anything, the abuse will never go away.

Wouldn’t describing people as crying or having a meltdown, be a way of indicating you are somewhat dismissive of people that think differently to you as well.

I take you are okay that Phil allows you to do that?

I just think it is sad when the usual suspects go straight to name calling and labelling people inappropriately, knowing they will get away with it.

Whatever floats their boat, I guess.

Hello ? And maybe you could take over Phil's job for a week and do the same for your favourites. Would that help ?

On the one hand, well done for making a sincere apology (unlike some, *cough* Ashton *cough*).

On the other, “IQ is lower than your shoe size” is marvellous and I’m stealing it

I’m used to it, if someone has to resort to personal insults, shows how weak their argument is.

I'm not sure what to do with them actually. He never talked about his service and I only learnt that he was even in combat after he died. It wouldn't feel right to publish, but I've let a couple of academics and a history author use them as a reference.

I'll never know why he wrote them, and he definitely wasn't a wordsmith (or an artist - there are some sketches too), but it's an incredible thing to read. The best way I can describe it is like reading a documentary where your own relative is the lead character...

Stayed away since last night, thought I would pop on to see how things are.

Just in time to see Mullet tell someone that they have.

No morals or spine or dignity

Nice to see the abuse thing being ignored by the usual offenders.

I'm just going to watch from outside the window for a bit.
