Not to get a card after the Cordoba handball, for waving an imaginary card

Nice to have decisions (or lack of) go our way this time

McLean lucky not to get a Red when he was booked for a bad foul followed by getting right in the referee's face, then soon after almost head-butted the ref by throwing his head into the ref's.

Absolute second yellow for the majority of refs.

BBC shows Cordoba got a yellow but none for Azon. How do we check for sure?

Hundred percent. Was amazed he didn’t get a yellow followed by an immediate second yellow.

It wasn't the easiest match to officiate but the ref seemed quite happy to show a yellow and reticent to show a red. Clearly better that than the other way round! I think there was some confusion over who got booked for what at times.

Azon definitely got booked for the imaginary card. Cordoba no card much to Jack Taylor’s displeasure “you can’t just f’king grab the ball” he said to the Lino

Azon 100% was booked, Cordoba wasn't.

Some confusion clearly as a fair few Nodge complaining about the inconsistency when Leif wasn't booked for a very similar handball as Cordoba.

In reality the ref was consistent as he didn't book either of the players for very similar hand balls but did Azon for encouraging a booking.

A clear, deliberate handball to stop him getting away after Cordoba had gone to ground.

Davis' immediately after was very similar apart from being in an attacking zone rather than a defensive one. Both should have been yellow cards. After thinking Cordoba's was given, I thought Davis was lucky. Now realising it wasn't, the ref had no grounds to book Davis for it and it would have been very poor if he had done.

He should have booked a few of their players for demanding Nunez get sent off though.

I thought he was pretty good on the whole though, maybe set the threshold very low for a foul early on but was on top of most stuff and refused to let certain players make decisions for him.

Pretty much my thoughts.

First 10 mins he was giving free kicks for the slightest touch but seemed to ease off a lot. By the last 20 mins he had gone full circle and (what to many refs were) yellow card offences were being tolerated.

Gave a few players some leeway - which has to be better as long as it's consistent to both sides.

Sky similarly show Azon as not being booked. Was certainly my opinion at the time that he was. He also appeared to ask the ref later why he was booked and the ref did the waving imaginary card action. Seemed absurd that he was booked for that yet multiple Norwich players surrounding the surrounding the ref trying to get Nunez sent off, one doing exactly the same, wasn’t punished.

It's never absurd that a player gets booked for waving an imaginary card. Maybe the Norwich players were punished, cos the ref thought 'sod it, if you're going to be like that I ain't sending him off.'

That's an interesting thought - and am sure some refs will be exactly like that.

Thought the ref did ok. Lots of yellows but the players didn't help with the constant tackling through the back of players. Davis worries me that he gets booked for stupid things. His retribution tackle was an easy yellow then grabbing the ball just after the Nodge player got booked was daft. Players need to learn that we need 11 players on the pitch to see the game out. Don't give the refa option to book you especially with the home fans beating for blood. An easy sending off could have detailed our promotion push.

The ref was rubbish. Waving first yellows around like confetti because he couldn’t command the respect of the players but then didn’t have the guts to produce second yellows for fouls and behaviour that obviously deserved them. I suppose we should be thankful he wasn’t gutless for Nunez not being sent off, but agree that game could have been easier for us had McLean gone.

It's a strange rule. What's the difference between waving an imaginary card and saying to the ref, "that's a yellow card, ref"?

I'm disappointed no player has yet opted for my solution to the imaginary yellow cards booking issue by carrying their own actual real yellow cards to wave towards the referee.

Gazza got booked once for doing that in Scotland

Although he probably made the mistake of nicking the refs cards to begin with rather than bringing his own!
