| Sorry to be a happy clapper... 14:58 - Apr 15 with 2173 views | J2BLUE | but we are still in a great position. Last night was hugely disappointing obviously but we're still in a good place. Millwall, Boro, Ipswich and Southampton have taken ONE point between them at Fratton Park this season. 8 points will be enough if we do not lose to Boro and neither Millwall/Saints take maximum points from their remaining games. Southampton are capable of it but they have four tough fixtures left if you look deeper than the league table. Swansea and Preston are very good at home. Bristol City are unbeaten under Hodgson and only conceded once in three games. 8 points is enough, even if Southampton beat us convincingly. | |

| Sorry to be a happy clapper... on 15:30 - Apr 15 with 1537 views | IPSWICH1078 | We're in a good run of form overall. We were always going to lose one in the run in. 62 points from 31 games. Keep that form up and we will be OK! | | | |
| Sorry to be a happy clapper... on 15:30 - Apr 15 with 1538 views | Herbivore | The frustration is that we could and should be even more comfortable but just didn't turn up last night. Pompey had a tough away game and long journey on Saturday and don't have the squad depth we have so it was pretty poor that they were able to outwork us so easily. But you're right that we're still in a good position overall and it's in our hands. If someone had told us a couple of months ago that we'd be clear in second by 2 points with a game in hand at this stage of the season we'd absolutely have taken it. And while performances like last night have been worryingly frequent over the season, it's been a while since we've put in a shocker over the full 90 minutes as we did last night and we've generally not put in back to back poor performances since the first month of the season. We usually bounce back after a bad performance and result, so we've got to hope we do that again and find enough to get the results we need to get us over the line. | |

Southampton will DESERVE to go up if they win 10 games on the trot! Currently on 6. is it really likely they'll do that? I'd say not, but i don;t want to tempt fate!

Similarly if we don't get the job done from here, we don't deserve automatic promotion. It's firmly in our hands still despite last night.

Last night was meh. But I think the boys have huge credit in the bank from Norwich. Honestly, watching the Pompey fans last night I mostly felt happy for them (and my Pompey supporting mate) that they're probably staying up now. Didn't begrudge them that one bit. Especially when they were singing 'we are staying up'. They've had a lot more bad days than us this season, and years of crap since their fall from grace, just like we did. Fair play to them. And our players are only human. I still feel knackered from Saturday - what a day! Time to refocus and regroup ready for Middlesborough now though. Our season's not derailed, win on Sunday and we're getting closer to being over the line. COYB!

(copyright whoever here coined that one a few weeks ago) As for the "but we've spent so much money so KM has failed" bunch - as I said before, if it weren't for KM we'd never have that sort of budget anyway. We'd still be looking for players in the 50-100k range.

| Sorry to be a happy clapper... on 16:21 - Apr 15 with 1229 views | Vaughan8 | Beat Middlesbrough and Tuesday will be forgotten. We still have to be favourites to get that second spot. 3 points ahead of Southampton with a game in hand. I think win the 2 home games and stop Southampton beating us and we should nearly be there.....! (unless say Millwall win all 4 games which I'd say is unlikely) | | | |
| Sorry to be a happy clapper... on 16:22 - Apr 15 with 1210 views | _CliveBaker_ | Last night was horrible, I didn't enjoy that at all. 3rd visit to Fratton and I've never seen us win. I make you right though, other than the 'do not lose' on Sunday. I think we're in the territory of it needing to be a W given we've travelled poorly this season, and these 3 after Boro are very sticky and in quick succession. Ultimately if we were offered 6 points from the next 3 games going into Norwich, baring in mind the opposition, 2 being away, 1 at a rival, 1 at a tough place under the lights fighting for survival, and 1 against 1 of the better sides in the division I think we all would've taken it. Especially if those wins came against Norwich and Boro, the ideal times to get them. So now we need to go and do that, beat Boro at FPR on Sunday and we'll be in arguably the best position we've been in all season to get over the line in the final 4. | | | |

Just annoying about the freight train that’s behind us while the other two kind of fell of the tracks, even though they’re not out of it, I’d be surprised if they hit maximum now. Very in fact, because we are winning Sunday.

Yep. This is the big issue for me. Pompey are still stretched and down to the bare bones, yet still managed to summon more grit and determination. That they outworked us so easily is a major red flag for me. Are we more jaded than McKenna is letting on? Are several players running on fumes?

Win Sunday and Boro's ceiling is 81, while we would be on 78 with a better GD and 4 to play. They'll be toast. Millwall aren't getting 4/4 and would do well to get 81 themselves. I can't see Saints doing 4/4 either tbh, its more likely than Wall but they themselves will do well to get 82. I'll predict 82 points and a +30 GD will prove to be enough for 2nd. Win Sunday and we're tantalisingly close. Anything but a W and bums will be squeaking.

Win Sunday and we will get over the line IMO, I don’t think we do if we drop points and saints win at Swansea though, then I’m worried.

I'd agree with that. If we win Sunday I think we'll do it irrespective of what happens elsewhere. Technically if we draw, and didn't lose ground on either Millwall or Saints it would be a decent outcome, but I think its unlikely as I expect Wall to beat QPR, and S'ton have to be favourites at Swansea. Really need to win on Sunday, it would be a massive result and you would have to say 6 points from the last 3 games / 9 points from the last 4 is still very strong form, regardless of yesterday. Need to get that win on Sunday.

Yeah exactly. The idea they can’t beat Swansea and Bristol before they play us because of law of averages is a bit ridiculous at this point, won 15 and draw 3 in 18! We need to win Sunday. [Post edited 15 Apr 17:39]

The way players were struggling to move was obvious. Azor. Nunez. Neil. Could barely get out of 1st gear We had some energy from Clarke and mcateer but around them we were so leggy Furlong struggled. Kipre not imo anywhere near match fit. All the ingredients for a psspoor performance against a side fighting for their life.
