Desperately struggling to see what others see in him. Awfully slow. And even more selfish. A dreadful fit for McKenna's #10 when he's never prepared to see the bigger picture and play in better placed teammates. He's not for me, Jeff.

I remember being quite impressed with him in his first few appearances, but I agree since then his performances have really tailed off, and I can't put my finger on why.

Yep not a number 10.

Our current number 10 options are Nunez (a centre midfielder by trade) and Mehmeti (A left winger by trade).

Ipswich recruitment 101.

Why are these players arriving, Egelli, Mehmeti, Palmer, arriving having 5 great games then losing their way?

Too greedy when a simple pass would put others in.

Harsh. It's his cross that leads to the penalty.

Also don't blame him at all for shooting when the Egeli pass was on, considering the quality he's got, the fact he was so close to goal and and the form Sindre is in.

He holds onto the ball and carries it better than Nunez, has had a bit less vision. I think we've got quite a good blend of different 10 options.

He made a good impact when we first signed him but he’s regressed for sure, as has Neil.

Perhaps coaching them to our system isn’t getting out of them what we signed them for.

He never was a 10. McKenna keeps getting people in who just don’t fit where he wants them. I don’t get his philosophy. Mehmeti is a left sided player, just like Jaden and Clarke. Really strange recruitment again. We needed a Striker, right sided player and a number 10 . We got none. As usual.

Honest answer

They come from playing to their strengths to a side where we try to shoehorn them into the side.

Still think we needed a striker. Needed one in the summer. Needed one in January.

Maybe we should buy players that suit our system to start with, rather than try and force players who don't, into suiting it? For the prosecution I offer up Chuba Akpom, SWE ( though he will come good if played in a postion that suits him next season and onward ), and one or two others who have been on the recieving end of supporters angst, when much of it isn't their fault.

And if by any chance the second sentence in that post is actually correct, then the coaching is sub standard. Personally, I favour buying the correct players in their correct positions to start with.

Nunez or Mehmeti, absolute fraction of what Conor Chaplin was to this team.

Philogene or J.Clarke, absolute fraction of what Nathan Broadhead was to this team.

McAteer or Egeli, absolute fraction of what Wes Burns was to this team.

3 absolute cornerstones of our success, absolutely pivotal to us, if you downgrade on them, you’re going to downgrade the overall side - there’s nothing ground breaking there.

Its been crystal clear from the beginning of the season the front quartet is deeply lacking continuity, connection and consistency, nothing has changed that throughout the season, huge hole in the side.

Just wow.

Philogene and Clarke are far better players than Broadhead.

Nunez and Mehmeti are better players than Chaplin.

Burns is better than McAteer, but he’s more experienced.

I of course they’ve not gelled into the formidable unit we had getting out the Championship last time. But it was a different season.

But you’re confusing player quality, with system and how opposition teams set-up against us. We were not fancied and hence didn’t face the low block week in week out.

Philogene and Clarke on paper are better than Broadhead.
Nunez and Mehmeti on paper are better than Chaplin.

But are they better in McKenna's system. Are they fulfiling the role we require? Or does our attack look disconnected and confused too often?

And didn't teams adapt to us in 2023/24? It just feels there's a degree of desperation in playing down endeavours of the double promotion team to build up the current squad.

I’m talking purely on the quality of player to the original post.

No one can argue that our attacking 4 has struggled, as well as excelling at times. The two recent McAteer goals are superb.

There is really no comparison in terms of low blocks from the 23/24 season and this one.

I don't think we've really faced a low block in the last three games. Against Norwich we fought hard though struggled in possession. Against Portsmouth we didn't turn up. Against Boro we played well in the first half, ok in the second until they scored, then collapsed.

For the next two games, I can see Charlton and West Brom trying low blocks against us.

They aren’t better.

From what we’ve seen in an Ipswich Town shirt, Broadhead and Chaplin are clear, and it’s not even a debate.

Yes we’ve struggled against low blocks, but there have been many open games we’ve dropped points too. I’m not sure how WBA and Charlton will approach it, WBA only need a point to be safe and Charlton already are.

He's decent, but like a lot of players I think fans can be a bit reactionary to over or understate their performances. He's a player who has spent his career at Wycombe and Bristol City and cost £3m (partly because of his contract situation). He's not Messi, but he's a tidy player and a decent, versatile addition at that price. I don't think he's any better than what we had already tbh, but probably no worse either and gives us a good, solid option.
