You don’t get promoted by being the closest to the premier league. You get promoted by being one of the best teams in the championship. Which we clearly are.

| Awful performance on 14:29 - Apr 25 by Nutkins_Return | No. It wasnt an awful performance. That's miles miles over the top. West Brom are in fantastic form and they should be miles higher. 10 unbeaten for them. The context is pressure and West Brom were fresher for having a week to prepare. It was underwhelming. We weren't at our best. But what we did was stuck in there. It was not fun to watch whatsoever and didn't enjoy it. But we got an away point at a good team who havent conceded in hours or lost in months. |
"The context is pressure and West Brom were fresher for having a week to prepare." Second person to say this. West Brom played Watford on Tuesday...

| Awful performance on 14:36 - Apr 25 by WolfieAtTheBack | It was an OK game competed between two very average championship sides. I hope the powers that be have a bloody good recruitment plan in place and no plans for the next 4 months as building another NEW team is going to be a monumental challenge. |
I don't think there can be another change of faces like the beginning of this season. We will probably need a top class keeper with Walton as stand in. Maybe cover for both fullbacks. Whether Kipre is kept I am not sure. Matisuwa and Taylor plus one other with Cajuste and Neil not being purchased. Clarke and Philogene, Nunez, Memeti and McAteer. Akpom,Azon and probably Burns all leaving along with Szmodics. As for Hirst I am really unsure. He has had such a poor season and against Premier League centre backs will he be even good enough as a second striker.

| Awful performance on 16:05 - Apr 25 with 710 views | burnbudgiesburn | Couldn't care less about performances at this stage to be frank - last season Sunderland lost 5 in a row towards the back end of the season, were 2nd best in the play off final and spawned their way to the prem. | | | |

Good point, well made. Yes, they crushed on the beach Watford 3-0 at home on Tuesday having beaten Preston last Saturday without breaking sweat while we played a tense game away at a club needing a point on Wednesday after drawing a hard fought match last Sunday. No difference at all really.

| Awful performance on 14:32 - Apr 25 by Nthsuffolkblue | I don't think it was awful at all. Disjointed against a well-organised side. What I do agree with though, is we are way off Premier League quality. There is a lot of work to do and I have little faith we can get in the players we need. |
A fair, unbiased assessment. Consistency is one of our biggest issues. We also lack the athleticism and pace required as a team that is essential at a higher level. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Awful performance on 16:13 - Apr 25 with 683 views | jas0999 | The table doesn’t lie. If we do go up … we will certainly need to strengthen though. At least two strikers with Hirst possibly the third. Clearly Azon won’t cut it. | | | |

| Awful performance on 15:36 - Apr 25 by Nthsuffolkblue | Unfortunately we got the Cajuste I saw last season. Real skill and quality but too slow in his decision-making once he has beaten his man. If he was quicker playing the ball once he has created the space he would be Premier League quality. Can he gain that? Time will tell. |
Interesting but my issue with Cajuste has more been off the ball and his casual defending and busting a gut to get back. I still remember his lung busting run in the prem to get back and make a wonderful tackle. That's the Cajuste I want. I do think his knee is the reason his game has changed. Mckenna mentioned it's much better now but perhaps there is a game clause.

| Awful performance on 18:11 - Apr 25 with 551 views | armchaircritic59 | Worry about that when the last ball has been kicked of this season. For now at the least we are a Championship side, not a PL league one. I expect the majority of peoples opinions on this topic is broadly similar, but let's just get there first. | | | |

I’m not sure tbf. I’ve seen some wild takes on here about players they think are good enough for the Prem. But yeh let’s get up first and then have these discussions.

I’m not saying I disagree either, you can track my posts back a long way to say that this rebuild needs a refurb, and it certainly does, but it’s an issue we can address post QPR, not before.

We can't go into an elite level of football with the current crop of players, fixing it I guess would cost £175m - £250m. Maybe that works for the ownership group, we are indeed a brilliant source of revenue as a business giving the fact win or lose they get paid. Anyway, best deal with Southampton and QPR first...
| Awful performance on 19:29 - Apr 25 with 388 views | DJR | Doesn't this just prove how good a manager McKenna is, given I don't think we got the players over the summer that we had hoped to? Yet we are one win away from automatic promotion with two games to go. [Post edited 25 Apr 19:30]

Walton deserves the chance for me, but with a proper prospect of a twenty-two-ish backup, plus Palmer. Backups for Davis and O'Shea. Competitor for Greaves, but I expect Greaves to be top dog actually, seeing steady progress and he has great 'reach'. New RB with Furlong as backup. Two new CMs with Matu, Taylor and Cajuste (we have obligation I believe?) or another. LW fine, I think, if lightweight. Two banging' new central 10s from abroad, with SWE (if not loaned out) needing to get to a position of being able to challenge them. Kasey Mac as backup plus Wes if looks fit enough still and a heavyweight RW in our mould. Two hot new 9s with Azon as backup - progressing in most of his game, needs to work on his finishing over the summer. These are bare minimum, and we should be looking to upgrade 4 or 5 more ideally.

Agree with most of this but I think we would need another new alpha CB to play along with DOS. Or go 3 back and play those 2 and another

| Awful performance on 01:25 - Apr 26 with 167 views | britbiker | I think it comes from the frustration of having a squad that should be passing better than they do. Every game we have too many players not hitting the form we expected for the money we've spent. However we are second on merit. A prem quality striker is an absolute must but how do you find one of those when once again we will be at the tail end of the pecking order during the summer break. Ashton will have a huge job moving on a lot of excess players and offloading some that we will be contracted to buy but will not be what we need. At least we know what to expect next time round. Strikers that score from every one of our errors and stronger fitter level of opposition. I do feel that the players we will release will have a higher value than last time round so the fund pot should be greater plus Ashton won't have the 100 point Sky/prem list of stadium requirements to take up the off season. I feel there has to be a game clause doesn't there? I know his level hasn't been where we would have wanted earlier in the year, but it feels like there is more to it than that given he isn't even coming off the bench anymore. | | | |
