Is theirs the only position we don't need to improve on? In terms of having 2 quality options for each position that is.

Still unsure if they are prem players Gav

I kinda feel like theyre are a level that is between champ and the prem.

Philogene has great ball control. Good feet. Good shot. But is fairly slow
Clarke has looser ball control and esp defensively lets alot of runners go.
But hes more of a greater aswell as a scorer than jayden.

Its a difficult one.

For me, CB is almost there, but maybe a senior prem pro on a last big contract might consolidate.

Clarke and Philogene are only going to get better, so I'd say I'm happy with the left side.

I would just hope we've learned lessons about wholesale churns not necessarily being the best option.

Nope, I think that’s the one position where we have half decent backup. We saw how poor Clarke was last year and need better if we want to establish ourselves in the PL.

I think Walton and Palmer are fine. Matusiwa and Taylor are too but need two more in their position to support that. Neil was signed to be one of those but will he be good enough? I would like to see us get Hackney and someone similar to Matusiwa who has been identified from abroad unless we can make a Xhaka-type signing.

So, possibly keeper. I also think our defence is much better and we might be OK with O'Shea, Greaves and Kipre with another (starting) CB as the central options. Clearly need more at left back and right back, though.

12 new players.

Premier League ready imo

O'Shea
Greaves
Davis (although he found it difficult last time around)
Matusiwa
Philogene
Clarke
McAteer (squad player)

Every other position needs overhauling

Furlong is fine and so is Walton. I’ll add to that Nunez. He’s a terrific player although been off it a tad since injury. Quick feet and awareness along with good control. Good dead ball kicker too. I think he can play at that level, despite being a tad small. Mehmeti is fine as a squad player too. He has a bit about him. I’d hang on to Hirst too.

Overall, we are better placed than last time because individually most of the players are higher quality. Key additions - proper goalscorer x2 and a goog midfielder like the Sunderland bloke. We cannot afford ineffectual punts like Cajuste or Phillips who doomed our season before it began.

There’s lots to look forward to massively helped by the experience of last time. They know what’s required.

But that’s for tomorrow. Today is all about the lads who’ve done it and the club that has worked so hard behind them. Well done all of them.

We don't know that's not the case though, we might have done even worse without the churn and Leeds and Sunderland are staying up after far more churn than Burnley.

We will be very active I think.

Yeh, let's not throw babies out with bathwater like last time. Defence (including Furlong), keeper, and DM are fine. Only left-10 is Prem quality further forward in the form of Jaden/Clarke. So that leaves us needing:
1. box-to-box CM next to Matusiwa (would love Hackney)
2. number 10
3. right-wing (would love Azeez)
4. striker

Other than that, it's strengthening the backup/squad players.

Furlong is a top end Championship defender. A very good one at that but too limited for the PL. Walton is fine as a number 2 but to stand any chance of staying up we need a keeper with all of Muric's attributes minus the brain farts.

Hackney is a player who needs to develop i the PL and used sparingly. We'd be eaten alive if we lined up with Mutusiwa and Hackney every game. We need an established PL partner for Matusiwa.

I was only referring to the positions where I feel we didn't need strengthening!

I would say we need 2 more strikers at least of the level Delap gave us. I would like us to be looking at Lankshear as one of the possibilities and Vipotnik as another. Maybe abroad or a Premier League loan youngster too. Clearly if Delap is available it's a no-brainer to get him back. I don't suppose Broja or Evan Ferguson are options any longer although we have been known to revisit former targets.

We also need someone on the right as a regular. Would McAteer and Walle Egeli be enough to back that up? And we need a regular starting number 10.

I make that a minimum of 6 regular starters (full backs, a CB, 9, CM and right 10) and probably a couple of other players on top of that. Ultimately, any improvements we can make to any positions are going to give us a better chance.

All 3 promoted clubs signed at least 10 new players last summer, mainly for respectable fees. This worked for Sunderland & Leeds, but not for Burnley.
However, those who think we only need a few (decent) additions to have a chance of survival next season are in cloud cuckoo land. The reason we weren't nearly good enough last time was because the quality of the players we signed (except Delap) wasn't good enough, not the amount of upheaval.

Starting 11
New GK
New RB
O’Shea
New CB
Davis
Matusiwa
New CM
New RW
New CAM
Philogene
New ST

Also in squad
Walton
Furlong
Kipre
Greaves
New LB
New CM
Taylor
Nunez
Burns
Egeli
Mehmeti
Clarke
Hirst
New ST

Would be my 25-man squad.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

It’s definitely the least of our priorities, but I imagine we’ll be looking at players for pretty much every position if they’re going to add physicality and nous

Not far away except I would be looking to upgrade on Davis rather than GK. I think Burns goes and McAteer stays. Not convinced that both Mehmeti and Nunez remain.

Probably not, and it's very simplistic but I'm wondering whether it's a better strategy to basically but the best players we can?!!

I know that sounds like I'm taking the p1ss, but genuinely, if we can get a massively better left winger or centre mid or centre half, or left back we get them in, full stop. And if that means Jaden, Clarke, Azor, Leif or DOS(unlikely) get knocked down to second fiddle then so be it. Obviously we absolutely need a couple of strikers, as always, and right back, and probably others, but equally I don't think there will be any sacred positions or players.
