| Players loaned in - sign permanently or order them a taxi to the airport! 21:44 - May 3 with 2588 views | tetchris | Kipre - absolute unit, yes from me. Sign him up! Akbombed (Akpom) - no thanks rather have a bath bomb from lush. Apparently we have to buy him for £7m upon promotion. Fingers crossed MA can get us out of that one! Taxi! Cajuste - has the quality but over looked in favour of Taylor and surprisingly Neil. Probably not returning unless cut price deal can be negotiated. Taxi! Neil - hasn’t done enough to earn a deal even if he wanted to stay here, no from me! Taxi! Azon - I like him but he falls over too easily, and should have scored more goals. Taxi but maybe another season loan can be negotiated? | | | | |

Lost his place to Greaves quite rightly having been very average for the past few months with a very shaky last few starts. No coincidence that of the last 8 games, the two he started were our worst performances at West Brom/ Pompey. Will be 30 in December, has never played in the Premier League, was ok for large parts of the season but there is a pretty clear gap in quality between him and O'Shea. Why would we not try and upgrade?

Yeah agreed. As a 4th CB in the prem he’d be an ok option but I wouldn’t want him to get a lot of game time.

Would he? Heggebo/ Dike gave him a torrid time at WBA. How would that translate to Isak/ Ekitike at Anfield? I don't think he's shown he's any better than Woolfy or Burgess and they played a decent amount of games as 3rd/ 4th choice last time out in the PL.
| Players loaned in - sign permanently or order them a taxi to the airport! on 22:53 - May 3 with 1831 views | itfc48 | If you look at the calibre of players that Leeds and Sunderland had to bring in to stay up, you’d say realistically none of them. Kipre - maybe a cheap 4th choice Cb but for me he switches off too often and would get punished in the Prem. Cajuste - great ball carrier on his day but too much of a gamble after this season. Even on 2024/25 form I think we still need to aim higher for our starters. Akpom - don’t think he’s that bad as a player just not a fit for us. Neil - tidy Chanpionship player but just not quick or strong enough for the Prem. Azon - like the idea of him as a project if the fee is right as his movement and link play is excellent at times. Think he’d also suit the Prem more as he’d be better protected. | | | |

Didn’t really want to talk about this a day after but as someone has started a thread I’ll add my two cents. For Kipre could Sell him to Burnley or Wolves for over double what we paid! Not a PL defender for me, too casual and I feel the pace of PL attackers would consistently pick his pocket. Would be ok squad player maybe. Had a good spell for us in the autumn though and then Greaves I think rightly took his place late this season. Here’s the thing, we can’t go into the season banking on players that have done ok for us this season suddenly coping with the step up. I mean Sunderland saw how bad the 3 that went up last time were and basically brought a new team and binned off their club captain. Sometimes you have to be a little ruthless. Doesn’t mean those that achieved promotion won’t get a nice bonus and go on to do good things elsewhere. Of course some will still be here. The way I look at it is no other PL clubs would be in for Hirst, Taylor, Kipre, Furlong, Azon, Akpom etc. Sounds a bit harsh but it’s true, some of them would be decent enough squad players or maybe back ups. I think Taylor and Furlong being examples as two from those I just mentioned that you likely keep around that could play a part. Guess Hirst could be third choice or maybe go back to champ for a tidy fee. To be honest there’s even a question over some of consistent and best starters this year if the pace and physicality might be too much for them. We don’t need 3 or 4 starters we need double that. Just nonsense. Has been excellent. Spots a pass. Has physicality Greaves would kill for and has only looked shaky when coming back, not match sharp, after being out. Quite how Greaves gets a pass for his obvious deficiencies whilst Kipre gets dismissed this way is beyond me.

That’s incorrect he had poor/shaky games before his ban, notably Preston and Stoke.

Did you not watch him at West Brom last week? Or Preston at home earlier in the season where Daniel Jebbinson had a field day just running off the back of him every few minutes. Absolutely nowhere near Prem level.

Preston’s back up striker gave him fits. He also jumped under the ball for their goal and missed a sitter in the last minute. Went walk about for Stoke’s late leveler as well. That chance against WBA could have been pretty fatal in that game. I do hope our fanbase ain’t suddenly going to think we’ve got enough quality in the ranks in certain areas. Won’t need a complete overhaul but we will need a lot of new players.

If a lack of match sharpness is the reason for the awful recent performances, what hope do we have for next year if he has to cover for an injury for a game here and there? Greaves does not get a pass but we paid £15M for him and he will quite rightly get a much longer leash. I'd fully expect us to sign someone to compete with Greaves for that starting spot.

I think the only way of Greaves and O’Shea both starting is if we play a 3 with wing backs.

I dont see personally that a 29 year old whos highest level was French ligue 1 relegation is suddenly going to be good enough for prem football. Hes am ok centre back but surely last season has shown people how difficult the prem is. I think oshea is gonna be ok. But I dont even know if greaves is suitable for it let alone kipre. We even have the issue of davis in the prem Its so so difficult and why most promoted clubs now have to replace most of the team to have a change of staying up

I don't mind Kipre but we need people who are better than Greaves, which he's about on par. The others definitely not. None have done enough to stay in a higher league.

Davis is an interesting one because he’s one of our best players but really only when we are on the front foot. I mean look at him the last two games getting forward, just class. Question marks over him defensively though. Not sure we can play him in a 4 at that level!

It sounds crazy but I wonder if Clarke and Philogene are both here and we just go with that on the left, I guess so but as you say that will leave questions for Davis tactically as well

Disagree with this, but interested to know the thinking. Greaves had a great game at Carrow Road, but for me Kipre is the better player. Sort of reminds me of the difference between Cam Burgess and George Edmundson, in that Kipre/Burgess is the much harder, more solid player who wins a hell of a lot in the air, whereas with Greaves/Edmundson I can't really put my finger on what it is they're specifically good at. For a chap of his size don't think Greaves quite wins enough in the air. Think Kipre is far more assured with the ball at his feet as well.

None of these players would get close to Sunderland/Leeds team. I like Jens, but he’s not quick or powerful enough. We need to sign players with lower and pace.
