Wan-Bissaka would make a lot of sense 16:15 - May 25 with 3719 viewsNutkins_Return

Ot the most exciting signing but he fits our system just about perfectly in that we need a really good defensive Right Back who is excellent at one on ones as Davis getting up and down can leave us vulnerable and the 4 at the back often becomes 3. It's a role that doesn't bomb on like Davis but does need to be able to get up and down at time as Furlong has done.

Would be really well known to McKenna so would understand how McKenna operates and hopefully some good respect there.

Just makes a lot of sense except potentially commercially as I imagine West Ham really spunked high wages on him.

Furlong and Wan-Bissaka is the solid and functional RB functionality we need.

Exciting options to follow in other positions.

My lad’s been saying the same, but he’s a Swans fan so I never know whether he’s serious or winding me up. Maybe he was serious after all.

You wouldn’t be excited by a bloke who broke through at palace, went to man united and has serious prem credentials?

I’d love it if we signed players of that calibre and beyond

Excited no. Happy yes. He has a lot of critics but I think he's the right sort of RB we need.

I don't think we want an 'exciting RB'. I.e.we.dont want a Davis on that side. That's kind of the point I'm making. It's not a negative.

I just think the commercial side is what will make it hard to do. I imagine he is in the 100k a week ball park. And not sure what sort of transfer fee would be involved. Don't think we will drop a huge fee for RB.

Wan-Bissaka on £90k basic a week.

Delap on £100k basic a week.

Mason Mount on £150k basic a week.

Financial suicide paying wages of this level at this stage. If we become an established PL team like Brighton, Bournemouth etc then wages of that level could be possible in the future.

We need to stay in the PL and build season on season, construct new stands to increase capacity/commercial revenue although I think that’s unlikely until 2028 at earliest so until then we have to pay accordingly. £45/50k max per week is probably our upper limit. OK we might be able to sign existing PL players on loan, but only with heavily subsidised wages. Rather get relegated paying sensible wages than go into administration.

Not in the first eleven at a relegated club due to his attitude.

No thanks.

Although, if you look at the reports around Nuno he's getting a lot of blame for falling out with individuals, upsetting/undermining his coaches etc. So might not be that clear cut.

He may be a good fit but allegedly on a hundred grand a week. Unless he got some sort of signing on within the transfer it won't happen.
A decent player but I would suggest right back is not our most pressing position to fill.

Yes the commercials as mentioned would be the challenge.

I think it absolutely is a priority area along with with RM/wing, CM and Striker. But we will need to strengthen just about everywhere.

I'm not sure it's quite that binary.

Sunderland have Xhaka, and he's definitely on north of £100k.

Quite - and worth every penny. I doubt Calvert-Lewin is on much less than that at Leeds either. We aren't in a position to be building a squad of players on that sort of money but if we want a couple of players with experience/quality that really shift the dial then that is the sort of money we will have to pay.

It'd be interesting to know what proportion of Kalvin Phillips' wage we ended up paying. I'm sure he didn't come cheap.

£100k a week is 'only' £5m a year. It's interesting to see people saying how we shouldn't have wages anywhere near that, but are more than happy for us to spend £w0m-£30m on a player before wages are even taken into account.

At a £13m fee and £100k a week, Xhaka would have cost about £18m for the season (ignoring amortisation). Far cheaper than many of the signings we made last time around.

Would have thought he’s on a lot less than £100k a week now that West Ham are down, though (although admittedly we’d have to get close to that number to tempt him here). I imagine he’ll get lots of steady Prem teams taking a look at him.

Talk Sport were saying all West Ham players have a 50% relegation wage cut clause. He is the type of profile we will need to be signing to stay up.

And off of the basis that we were apparently paying a fair chunk of Phillips' wages, I wouldn't imagine it is beyond us either!

He will get a much better offer than us (if we even show interest).

If he is available for £10m, then there will be a few established PL clubs having a look.

He's one of those I think we could get if we make him a priority signing and go hard for him. Several might quite like him but may not see him as a priority. Obviously have the McKenna connection too and he presumably lives a commutable distance from here already.

I'd be raiding West Ham quite frankly. Prem experience is what we need. Whether that be Wan-Bissaka or others. Mavropanos, Soucek, Wilson, Castellanos... whoever really. Bowen would be unattainable.

Yes, that's the pitch we've already made.

We're certainly in the fight.

Would be a fantastic signing but I think he will have offers from a more established club unfortunately.
