Brilliant! Dripping wet. Soaking wet. Jesus wet. Someone needs to truly define this scale.

| Sayings People Get Wrong? on 22:57 - Jun 2 with 1765 views | FBI | My old boss at the Suffolk Advertiser free paper in Bury was fond of saying, "I want to be really Pacific about this". In later years, a much less nice boss (who turned out to be up to naughties with my (MY!!!) assistant) once sent a snotty 'someone's using my teabags'-type email to the entire workplace containing the phrase, "...not to put to finer point on it..." (sic). [Post edited 2 Jun 22:59]

What winds me up is people not knowing the difference between ‘adverse’ (harmful things or conditions) and ‘averse’ (feelings of dislike).

I always thought it was whether the pudding had proofed (risen by the working of the yeast) or not, in an era before baking powder/self-raising flour.

I'd heard something along those lines as well, but apparently not. Is to do with sausages. https://grammarphobia.com/blog
| Sayings People Get Wrong? on 01:17 - Jun 3 with 1487 views | IPS_wich | Related but on a slight tangent - moving to Australia and there are several phrases that are clearly 'British' that mean nothing here. The one I most clearly remember was when I was leading a design session and said we need to get something down as a 'starter for ten' that we can all agree on - and no one had the slightest idea what I was talking about. | | | |

In the same vein I’m still trying to get over the fact that “being on the drag” is not known outside Ipswich/Suffolk when I truly just accepted that it was a nationwide saying. Beyond those shores the English speaking world must be even more confused and in some cases shocked by such a phrase. Oh, I only found this shock out on here in the last year or so. Absolutely, I discovered this when I went to uni in Leeds and said it to a bunch of Geordies, Brummies and Scousers in my halls of residence. No one had the faintest idea what being on the drag meant!!

Oh yes haha. My ex wasn't from our fine county and the first time I used that expression she gave me a very funny look. I think she was thinking more along the lines of Lily Savage or Ru Paul than being a little bit late.

| Sayings People Get Wrong? on 06:34 - Jun 3 with 1284 views | iamatractorboy | Oh, and one that's not really a saying, more a case of poor grammar... There seems to be a growing trend to say 'between 10 to 12' (or whatever), rather than 'between 10 and 12'. I see it in official communications stuff and all sorts. It really grinds my gears. | | | |
