| 'Mckenna increasingly likely to leave Ipswich' on 12:58 - Jun 9 by Churchman | I hope he stays, but will fully understand it if he goes. It’d be a big step up but an intermediate one. He will be after a Sky Six job and Fulham is a perfect stepping stone. Pretty much guaranteed not to be relegated, every chance to propel Fulham further up the league and a supportive crowd. If he does that for a couple of seasons, he’ll be in the frame for the job he really wants. He has everything to lose and little to gain by staying here because his chances with our budget and still forming set up are so limited. He’s also been here a long time and everything has a shelf life. Added to that is if we don’t survive, his reputation really will take a hit. What will be will be and the club is bigger and far more important than him. People come and go. I just hope they have been contingency planning and speculation is not allowed to drag on. All parties - make a decision and move on. |
Agree for the most part but I see that if he actually stayed and kept us up, he likely would then not even need another stepping stone. United is what he wants eventually, the only obstacle there is not carrick himself but carricks likely eventual failure which would likely mean united would never go for a similar replacement.

| 'Mckenna increasingly likely to leave Ipswich' on 12:20 - Jun 9 by portmanking | The galling thing for me is, has he *really* seen this project through? I'd say not. What is the project at Fulham? Bumble around in 13th (yes, I know we'd take that if offered right now). But surely our ceiling is far greater than Fulham's if our investors continue to believe. We have a diaspora of 1,000,000 people within 60 mins of Ipswich. There's nothing stopping us from being a European club again. Fulham are a London club in the shadows of other bigger neighbours and have to offer a neutral stand. I mean, really. If and when he goes, I expected it to be for an elite job, not a sideways option. Not after 5 years of building us back up. |
You keep wanging on about our owners as if they're Roman Abramovich and will do whatever it takes to get us challenging for PL top 6. Our owners' ambition is to make a profit for their pension fund members. Which highly likely means they'll try to keep us up and then they'll have a full exit. At which point Brightpath or another becomes majority shareholder, whose ambition will basically be to get us to where Fulham are now. Also newsflash - the premier league isn't short on very wealthy ambitious owners. So ours are hardly unique. [Post edited 9 Jun 16:15]

Yes. West Ham have had their problems for some time so it was no surprise to see them struggle. Wolves were a mess 24/25 and nothing changed. Hull and Coventry will be down there and we might be too, though with a better chance than them. I can see Leeds struggling with second season syndrome and Sunderland with euro commitments might too, as we did in 2001. They’ll probably finish above the mess that is Spurs too. Fulham have been in no trouble for the past few seasons, they seem well organised, well funded and safe.

Good point re Carrick. The problem with United is how they’re structured as much as anything else. Carrick as a manager? Not particularly ripped it up, though he comes across quite well in his book (reading it at the moment) - not that it means anything. United will fire him at the first opportunity as they seem to have got in the habit of doing that.

With our current squad it's such a huge job to try and stay in this league. Guess it depends if he is confident, we can get the deals done for our number 1 recruitment targets this summer as well.

KM has given some pretty frustrated interviews towards the end of transfers windows over the last few seasons in terms of the speed in which players have arrived and going in to opening games not as prepared as he would have liked. I'm sure KM can keep us up if we hit on recruitment, but that if is a big if so that's another reason why another job may appeal to him so much. Less recruitment question marks.

Yeah, it's not his job to get those signings made and let's face it, not an area we have excelled in since promotion in 2024 (at least in my opinion). Big difference between him signing players off, the department identifying targets in the first place and getting the deals done as well. Still some years behind you would imagine. Let's see I guess.

| 'Mckenna increasingly likely to leave Ipswich' on 15:02 - Jun 9 with 1914 views | carlo88 | It is definitely a sideways move at best as our club always will have more potential than Fulham, and bigger crowds, if we can just stabilise in the EPL. Very strange career move, I could understand C Palace more. | | | |

Just walk us all through how it’s sideways? Please show your workings so to speak.

I would say it's a sideways move as we get similar crowds, ours are/would be a bit bigger going forward in the EPL. Being in London probably favours Fulham, whereas we have the better history/trophies. They are established in the Prem though that can always change suddenly, we have rich backers and could stabilize quickly if we're lucky. So all things considered I'd say it's a pretty sideways move.

If you were to put your house on it, who would you bet is still in the PL next season out of us and Fulham?

Depends whether by 'next season' you're meaning 2026/27 or 2027/28... If it's the next season that we play, I'd put my house on us both still being in it.

And how important do you think bigger crowds and the fact we won some stuff 30-40yrs ago are to Kieran McKenna in his short managerial career? Also re rich backers, have a quick look at who owns Fulham... His net worth is the same size as the entire assets of the pension fund that majority owns us ffs.

It's fan pub chat stuff! That said I don't have Fulham quite at the levels of Bournemouth and Brentford in terms of where they are at, the squad is getting on a bit as well. McKenna isn't daft though, he knows hardly any of our current lot are good enough for this level, which isn't unusual for a promoted side but you'd maybe want to think we'd be in a slightly better place squad wise after a second promotion.

I think at some stage proficient managers get bored of doing well at clubs like Brighton, Fulham, Bournemouth and Brentford etc., and want to experience a club with more 'pedigree' and certainly more passion. Fulham were a yo-yo club like us for a bit so you can stabilise in the EPL with a couple of good seasons.

yeah I mean West Ham won the Europa League what 2-3 years ago? They were surely a 'stable' Premier League club.
