| Ashton Speaks on 17:41 - Jun 11 by Bellevue_Blue | If the decision was made two weeks ago, what possible incentive does the club have to keep it quiet? It doesn't help recruitment, it doesn't help planning for the season, it isn't beneficial for Ashton and co. They'd want candidates applying. Equally, in the world of social media and agents that news is not kept quiet for multiple weeks. They obviously knew he was considering it but I suspect that decision was communicated early this week at the earliest. [Post edited 11 Jun 17:44]

| Ashton Speaks on 18:07 - Jun 11 by lurcher | He doesn't look present and there is no sparkle. He is quite monotone and there is little inflection in his voice. Just sounds like he is going through the motions Is he tasked with resolving the managerial appointment before an off the field restructure happens. |
He does sound a bit flatter than usual. Maybe he's in pain after falling asleep in the tanning salon?

He's just lost the man he handpicked and worked alongside for the past 5 years. He's not going to be doing cartwheels. [Post edited 11 Jun 21:44]

I’ve not met him and don’t know what he does day to day. You clearly have as you are very worried. What’s he like? And who appointed McKenna? Given he makes you worried, he clearly had nothing to do with it. Was it O’Leary that did all the work?

I don’t worry about him in his personal life. I worry about him running my club. In that capacity I’m allowed to judge him based on the things he says in interviews. You put people with personality flaws in charge and it catches up with you. Character is destiny. If you can’t smell those flaws a mile off then you’re lucky. [Post edited 11 Jun 21:47]

It is quite possible to make a judgement based on what those who have met him say and his public persona and actions. It is possible for that to be wrong too. It is also reasonable to credit Ashton for what he has done in appointing McKenna and running the club very successfully. Do you think O'Leary played any part in the process? Do you think Ashton has acted as responsibly and professionally as he did before O'Leary left? If anyone isn't concerned that Ashton is CEO and Chairman I would love to know their reasoning for it.

I wasn’t talking about his personal life. To make the statements you have you must know him personally in his professional life. I don't, so I’m really interested to learn what he’s like. So what is he like?

Why the hell would he sound upbeat, a great manager and friend has decided to quit which is obviously not fun for him . He then has to find replacement ready for the premier league, you go and do his job which at the moment is 24/7.

Seems to be the next one off the production line from Arsenals coaching set up … although I’d be trying to temp Carlos Cuesta from Parma first.

He is a workaholic anyway and boasts about being one. It isn't healthy for him and nor for the club. Don't get me wrong, he has done a fantastic job as a CEO but it is a failing of Gamechanger not to have appointed a Chairman over him. He has also made some very poor decisions which he appears to have not been held accountable for either.

And conversely a lot of people form biased and prejudice views based on superficial information - how someone speaks, are they successful, how they dress, etc. There is a LOT of that from several people on this forum.

Both would appeal to me. What I will say about Molina is he worked with Simeone and Arteta. Lots to be said about us needing to be pragmatic and more solid this time. That is a pretty good schooling if that is what you are after. Set piece importance too and Molina has worked closely with Jover at Arsenal. Would be huge risk but Molina would be pretty high up my list. [Post edited 11 Jun 22:02]

Of course. It's obviously hit him, especially if he has know about it for a while as we are led to believe. Which is why I said he seems flat. In the same way you seem arsey, but at least he has an excuse.

Totally agree with you, but feel it would be a very brave and bold appointment at this stage and why I think I would plump for Cuesta simply because he has had that years experience of managing at a top level.

You don't have to know him personally in his professional life to figure out what kind of person he is. Screaming at Blue Action over a banner which he disliked Repeated cover ups and LIES over Brandon Williams, Omari and Faragegate Bringing a minder along to away games Disliked by fans of all his previous clubs Lots of bombastic talk that leads to nothing "scary transfer list" anyone? In sum, an egoistic, dishonest tw@t that wants to run the Club like his personal fiefdom

Yeh I like Cuesta. Can't say I watched loads of Parma but seems to be well received there. It would certainly be a risk with Molina but maybe im so dismayed at the idea of Gary O'Neil or Rosenior or god forbid Rob Edwards I would be more in favour of just going totally rogue and appointing a big risk. Not sure how wide we are casting our net but Merlin Polzin at Hamburg is another one who fits the young, well educated manager. Has experience at keeping a team in a top division and a big team at that. That's the sort of manager I'm after.

I was wrong with who said it apologies but knew id read it somewhere as a mentiones it yesturday after seeing it. It was in phils story.. town have known of the decision for a couple of weeks.

Paragraph 1: it’s very possible to be wrong in judging people on what others say. Quite often they have an axe to grind. I don’t know who on this forum has met him but perhaps they can enlighten me. Paragraph 2: very good of you to give him a smidgeon of credit. Paragrapg 3: O’Leary was here to primarily facilitate and oversee the takeover. I believe he spent very little time here, living in the West Country. What his involvement was, I’ve no idea. Nor do I know how the club is structured. What is the level of accountability with the owners? How often does the CEO have to answer to them? What do the other Directors do? The structure looks odd but we have owners 5000 miles away. What is Schwartz involvement? I don’t know enough about the structure and the titles are pretty unimportant. It’s what people actually do. Whatever it is, as the club grows it will have to change anyway. The simple facts are three promotions in five seasons. One poor manager which isn’t down to the current owners and one good one. A club heading for oblivion before Gamechanger now starting in the Premier League in August for the second time in three seasons. A new training ground, Cat 1, ground tidied up, community work, full houses etc etc. Maybe Ashton had nothing to do with any of that. Maybe he’s spent five years blundering about making bad signings and trying to unstick the coffee cup from his hand and doing passable impressions of Brent. You tell me. Personally, I think as an outsider looking in and viewing then and now that he has done a terrific job overall. Has he made mistakes! Oh yes. Lots of them. But people that do stuff tend to get it wrong sometimes. The trick is whether they learn from them. In ITFCs case, comms in particular. It needs to be a lot better. Would I want to know the bloke? Not really. I doubt we’d get on but I’d have to meet him to decide that. I worked with a number of people over the years with ‘reputations’ and I can think of only one a’hole that matched the billing. That is how I see it and him.
