Yet another game where one side doesn't even bother to play any football. Nice to see Enciso score but Paraguay are a hell of a chore to watch. We've been deprived of an exciting Germany vs France third round tie to instead watch yet another infernal 90 minutes of a team refusing to leave their own half.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

Nah, sorry, always enjoy underdogs going through, and delighted we won’t have to face Germany, esp in a penalty shootout.

Eh, difficult to look good with eleven players in the defensive box, hardly lends itself to free flowing football. Also very very unlucky with the disallowed goal.

There are multiple ways to play the beautiful game. Germany as posted earlier are toothless and on multiple occasions could have won the game, during normal time, extra time and even with penalties they had reprieves. But as is the norm Germany couldn't put the ball in the net....

Fair play Paraguay they put the effort in and made it count. Again I expect similar for our upcoming season and happy to do a Paraguay if it means more points.

Germany were dreadful and whoever won was always going to lose to France next round.

It makes for a distorted game, but I’ve actually enjoyed seeing these so called ‘lesser’ countries stick it to the more established ones. The game is changing and there is no harm in that. Their supporters have been great too.

As for massed defence way of playing, at a much lower level we saw in the championship a lot of teams doing it against us and doing it well. There were plenty moaning that we should have done this or that but as this World Cup has shown, it’s not so easy to break these teams.

What are you on about? Germany were terrible and deserve everything they got - nothing.

Well done to Paraguay - pretty on the eye? No. Energy, heart and desire? Yes.

Welcome to football.

You'll see more and more of the low block as its proving successful, Mick Mccarthy was ahead of his time.

As the WC is demonstrating, even the best players/teams are struggling against it. Although ironically Brazil beat it, by pumping it long into the box. Maybe we will go back to that style for a lot of teams, couple of tall strikers, bypass the midfield and just pump it in, the anti Pep approach.

Trouble is wingers never want to beat a man on the outside no more and get the ball in always play on the opposite side come inside you lose ur width hence why Burns has been so good for us a wide man who hits the by line.

I can’t think of anything worse. Last thing I’m interested in is going to a football match to watch us park the bus for 90 mins. Fk that, I’ll take up tiddlywinks instead.

Paraguay got whacked by USA in the groups and then changed to being more defensive which has worked for them.

It's obviously not pretty, but what do you want them to do. If they play expansive football, they'd almost certainly lose.

Some people are in for a shock next season because that'll be us vs the top teams.

It's not the uber defensiveness I object to, it's the constant diving and play acting.

Of course everyone does it but they are at the very worst extreme.

Yes. Paraguay were definitely not likeable. That 23 was a little sh!t all game. Surprised he didn't get sent off.

Almiron was falling over at every opportunity.

Even just players willing to run at defenders, rather than jogging a few paces before stopping and passing sideways or backwards.

It's notable what a difference the likes of Saka (who will do that) make to England.

Always the way with sport. Someone comes up with a cunning tactic, it becomes hugely fashionable, opponents evolve a method of negating it, somebody invents (or, often, resurrects) a way of dealing with that and so the cycle starts again.
