I know this will be unpopular, but not good enough. Sentiment aside, he wouldn’t play for another Prem club, Championship is probably his level.

For me, we have to be aggressive, bulk out our squad with players that are good enough to play in the Prem, especially as we’ve got a lot of money behind us.

Maybe the sun has got to me and I’m feeling miserable as it’s my last day on holiday, but we now have 3 right midfielders that weren’t good enough for the Champ, let alone the Prem.

I think we need better on the right so if we are keeping Burns and getting someone else in where does that leave McAteer and Egeli (presuming we're already getting rid of Ogbene) ?

....that we now have to ship out two of McAteer, Ogbene and SWE, and get an improvement in.

Seem to be over complicating an already complicated position.

Not ideal really.

Sorry that I don’t agree Wes Burns is a Prem player.

There’s a reason he was linked with clubs like Sheffield Wednesday. Could he have got a championship move? Probably - doesn’t mean I think he’s good enough.

If Burns is staying then it means he’s not looking to bring in another right winger. As we’ll already have 3

No It doesn't.

We dont have a Right winger in the squad who is a Premier League standard right winger, our left wing is a stronger position but even then Clarke and Philogene aren't guaranteed successes so I can't see us going in to the Prem with question marks on both of our wing positions.

They won’t loan out Walle, Which leaves Kasey McAteer.

And I don’t think they’ll sell Kacey

I would say McAteer could be sold, his stock is high the way he finished the season. Him and Ogbene IMO will be gone before we kick off

Great news.

Obviously had plenty of injuries but still so effective when he plays. Be interesting to see who moves in now from RW - be shocked if Ogbene was here next season. MacAteer has PL experience but not as high a ceiling as Walle Egeli.

He's staying

Hmmm, not sure about that? Do people really see him having a role to play? Last time out the leap in quality really showed how far off he was from it, especially in technical proficiency - seems a bit sentimental to me.

I can't see him being a starter but he does offer something off the bench that no one else in the team does. And we were much more threatening on the right last season with him than we were with Egeli or McAteer.

I can see Egeli being loaned. I am also not convinced McAteer is of Premier League quality.

And going back to Burns, who else was there at Dartford to see his first game?

I cant see oneil being sentimental here. Thats a squad place to be taken

I think with us looking to play a more direct game. Getting wes on the attack with defenders facing their own goal could be exciting to see.

The important thing is the extra quality we bring in around the pitch in other positions.

I'm expecting him to be our Aluko/Young kind of older head for the squad. Fleeting appearances, but mainly there to help knit the squad, and help the leadership team bringing some continuity.

I don’t think it’s as binary as that. 1) Walle-Egeli isn’t a right winger, he sure as hell isn’t in an O’Neil system.

I think it’s more a case of why wouldn’t you tie down Burns if you’ve got the chance? He’s in the building, he’s proven himself and we know what we’re getting. I don’t think it’s much more than that, and if a top right sided improvement became available I think we’d move for them. There’s no guarantees any of the current options are favoured moving forward, probably including Burns. You’d still get him under contract given the chance though.

I personally struggle to see how he is “so effective” - last 3 seasons, 72 games played with 8 goals and 6 assists.

We should be aiming higher in the Premier League.

Wes is 31, he should be off somewhere playing week-in-week-out, in the prime of his powers, not sure equating him with two elder statesmen who came to the club with a wealth of experience and leadership qualities is really relevant to Wes!

I do think what another poster has said about the likelihood of us playing a more direct game, playing into his strengths, is very true- we will be very much a counter attacking side- which may mean that Burns seemingly poor technical proficiency at premier league level, will be masked by his better qualities! Fingers crossed!

Will he play, he wasn't all that in the Premier league last time around? Probably in the side for continuity and to play the elder statesman.

We can waste a space on Wes if we bring in another 1 or 2 U21s.

KM trusted him repeatedly. That’s good enough for me. Giving Wes another year won’t make or break our season.

One thing that Burns has, even at his age, is pace, something rather lacking in the team, Davis and Akpom perhaps excepted.

Indeed, hopefully this will be an area we concentrate on when we look to strengthen this squad season.

And what did he cost us £50k or something from Fleetwood and a club legend and one of our better players who gives nothing but 100% in every game.
