Doesn't this happen all the time? Any time I pay VAT I'm being taxed again on money I've probably paid tax on.
And even then, inheritance tax is paid by the inheritor who quite literally be receiving something for nothing. It's new money / assets to them so they would only be taxed once on it. |
Also, a lot of most inheritance is likely to be a house on which its rise in value wouldn't previously have been taxed. |  | | |

I've never understood why IHT causes such anger.
Literally no one pays it. Those who had the wealth are dead. The dead person's estate pays IHT if due and those who inherit get a chunk of cash for which have not done a day's work and they get it tax free.
If people want to pass on all their wealth they can give it away when they alive.
Seems to me some very wealthy people want their kids to get big inheritances for which the kids haven't worked themselves. The entitlement of the wealthy who want their children to also be wealthy....but only after they die. |  |

I do currently rent, although that’s temporary- I’m a former home owner - sold my stake to ensure my disabled son has security in the future. I’m 38 years old, I’m well aware how a mortgage works and more importantly, how people created “business” around people’s inherent need for shelter.
I’m not sure if you’re being wilfully obtuse- but I’ve clearly stated twice already that council house stock would be replenished by compulsory purchase of all of these parasites properties.
Clearly in this fictional scenario, I’m happy with local authorities owning more than one property…
My issue is in the accepted predatory behaviour and practises that currently masquerading as “business” and are normalised.

Like many other elderly divorced, widowed or single people, council tax now takes 33% of my net income. Not our fault that property values have shot up. We are cash poor, asset "rich" yes, but only when we die. Sorry, but CT rising to 50% of net income would mean a choice of either eating or heating, not both.
(And no I can't relocate due to health, before anyone starts on that). | |
