I am inclined to agree with you but then you see how good some of these teams are that seem to have these "premium" set piece coaches and it makes you think we probably need someone good in these positons.

In modern football, especially the Premier League, an increasing proportion of goals are now scored from set pieces so we would be dumb not to try to improve both our attacking & defending in such situations. Arsenal's title last season was based on their success from such situations - they scored 19 league goals from corners last season. There may not be much science about it; their success was based on precise, inswinging corners & structural blocking (i.e. cheating).
