So how would it all work?
FIFA would sell the rights to the WC to various private investors, who would then run it themselves as a private company (or similar) with the profits being retained by the investors?
In which case, I assume that there'd be suitable clauses inserted in the deal to prevent FIFA from running any other global football tournament. But what if FIFA collapsed, and global football was taken over by a new International Football Federation (or similar).
Given the current discontent with FIFA, it feels like a risky move (not that Infantino will care - I'm sure he'll get his pay day regardless). | |
