That black tarmac running all the way along. Because its a bit random and away from the new bars.. could they be foundations for next summer extra tier work?

I'd say not. Looks untidy as anything, but they've got 3 weeks to finish off.
You should see the state of my neighbours drive and they'll finish that tomorrow.

But, its definitely not foundations.

I believe that is a walkway to allow fans to walk to individual turnstiles to enter the West Stand rather than block Sir Alf Ramsey Way.

I honestly don't see an extra tier on the west stand now. No doubt they were looking at it at one point.

The cobbold roof looking worse for wear every year ( a bit like me I guess! ) and the west stand roof not looking much better.

I don’t know what the timescale might be, but I see that entire area being replaced by a triangular event venue (à la Coventry), and when that goes in it will encompass an extended west stand that it will back into.

This has to be a fundamental part of the planned revenue growth and club value growth plan, especially how SCR works.

That makes a lot of sense, plenty of room to expand that way. And probably easier than whatever the plans are for Cobbold and the leisure centre and/or swimming pool.

Whatever happens, exciting stuff.

Stadium really lets the club down with the old stands with asbestos roofs. Neglect over many years under the ME era, sadly it’s now one of the worst stadiums in the PL. Literally ever season is like polishing a turd!

Inside its a bit cramped compared with modern build standards for walk ways and moving around inside the various stands. Back of the North by way of example is not a place to secure beer or food or move around compared to say MKD or BlackBurn or Anfield, same presumption for Cobbold, and all the movement for Pioneer is outside which is actually a bit of a luxury. This slightly cramped building is great from the inside viewing wise, it that is the thing that gives this old lady ita charm original viewing lines ans close pitch action.

From the outside and top it does not look great does it.

With the slight tweaks to the front rows in the North Stand has the capacity increased slightly?

A lot to do, especially with regard the fan zone area itself. And the works along the outer perimeter.

I would have thought a new surface (Astro) was going to be laid for the fanzone as the old tech pitch is very tired, and doesn’t fit the space.

The black 'strip' looks as if it could be a 'service road' for servicing/maintaining/re-stocking etc. the new bars (and any other facilities) the latest single-storey extension behind the west stand is providing.

Like you I thought by moving the disabled area out from the lower north front (adjacent to the west stand), and also reopening a small seating area that was closed off due to visibility from the disabled area, we’d get an increase in capacity.

But looking at the works on Tuesday they seem to have taken the front row of the north stand back by 3 rows and increased the walkway between pitch side hoardings and front row quite considerably.

I’d say from the railing in front of the lowest row to the hoardings, it used to be a 4-5 feet walkway. That now looks to have doubled in width at least.

I could have of course got this completely wrong!!??

Maybe the club got lucky and a couple of guys stopped and said, we've some tarmac left over from another job gov, we can do the path for you?

I still feel the best option is turn the ground so a main stand would sit on that part of the ground and over the top of the West stand and build a new stand in the car park in PR. Meaning technically rather than playing North to South, we play West to East

West stand work on 08:29 - Aug 7 with 3090 viewswrightsrightglove

To me, it looks like the tarmac area will extend to fill right the way up to the turnstiles. They’ve just filled that side first because people are still working on the other side. The channel that runs the length of the area will be a drainage channel. Nothing about it suggests it’s part of a scheme to build upwards but if they were to do that I’d expect it’ll be a similar design to the SBR and SAR stand with external supports at either end with a bridge support between the two so wouldn’t massively effect the new works

The photo on this suggests a shale or other hard surface for much of the area.

They have done something to the roof of both east and west stands. Looks like they have removed something and actually taken them down to bare surface. To me i think they are doing as much as they can before they are actually taken down. Lots of prep work essentially that can be done before any major works is undertaken. Seems like a sensible move.

I thought the plan was to build over the top of the existing West Stand so that they could move everyone’s over from the other side while that gets knocked down and rebuilt in its entirety
