| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... 15:40 - Aug 7 with 4297 views | ThatMuhrenCross | On TalkSport today he was assessing the prospects of the three promoted sides, and believes Ipswich are relegation certainties. He said: "I'd imagine Hull are the first favourites (for relegation). They still have a lot of business to do, so that could change. "Ipswich need goals, potentially, and that was the issue last time. Obviously they had the Man City boy they sold to Chelsea, Delap, but he still didn't score enough to keep them up. "I think there's goals in Coventry. I think, in that league, you score enough goals, the teams who struggle, you score enough goals, that keeps you in the league. "I do worry about those two newcomers." He went on to add that he is also concerned about the prospects of Fulham, but also thinks there could be a surprise team that gets dragged into it. | |

If anything, it's more about being hard to beat and score against, as Sunderland showed last season and Leeds in the latter half of the season. Not sure we should be taking Darragh's word as gospel given he's spent all his time in League One/Two.

Yes, and I'm not sure why he's so certain Coventry will score goals. Sure, they scored a lot in the Championship, but so have so many teams before them, only to struggle in the Premier League. They have Championship level attacking players. I also think that if they take their gung-ho attacking style into the Premier League, they'll be torn to shreds...

some of the promoted teams may go down another club or clubs may also go down scoring goals is important insight
| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 15:49 - Aug 7 with 3479 views | tractorboy1978 | Hull are going to be the worst team in the league by quite a distance. I think Coventry could fall into the trap of being naive to the quality of the division. If they take the strategy of 'we'll score one more than you' then they are going to get humbled very quickly. | | | |
| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 15:49 - Aug 7 with 3458 views | bluefunk | A couple of weeks ago DM couldn’t even remember who’d been promoted other than Hull and Town and proceeded to make the team he couldn’t remember favourites to stay up. I think we can safely disregard his opinion. If he’s right it’s on the stopped clock basis. | | | |
| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 15:51 - Aug 7 with 3416 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | Probably. Lots of people will predict us to go down and don't think there is much wrong with what he has said. | |

| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 15:52 - Aug 7 with 3379 views | Tractor_Boy333 | Funny how Coventry played us twice last season and attacking wise were well marshalled by our defence. In fact don’t think their strikers didn’t get a kick. I don’t see Coventry scoring lots of goals. Huge difference in standards as we found out and think they’ll struggle like we did. It seems because Lampard is their manager they stand a better chance chance of staying up. Well he didn’t do that well at Chelsea and I think we stand a good chance of finishing about both the other promoted teams. We will need too of we’re going to stay up. | | | |

Yeah, it's bollox. We scored a similar amount of goals in our previous promotion season. We all know how that ended. Truth is, the Prem is a whole different level now, scoring goals in the Champ just doesn't compare. Your best hope it's to duke it out, by making yourself hard to beat, and hoping to nick something on the break. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 15:53 - Aug 7 with 3345 views | RetroBlue | The Pope is Catholic, shocker! Its hardly rocket science that the newly promoted clubs are up against and generally history backs that up. So, so much for his punditry tell us something the football world doesn't already expect! | |

| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 15:54 - Aug 7 with 3345 views | dirtyboy | He's not wrong though is he? We don't have Enciso through the door, so relying on either Mehmeti, Egeli or Nunez for goals in a key position. Not saying one of those may do the business, but unlikely. Then a striker who's completely unproven. Get Enciso in and things start to change a bit as he is a threat. I think Coventry are a big powerful team, so may cope physically better than we think, but they concede goals and suspect they'll have to change the way they play a bit this season, but I do think they have a decent squad. I really do feel like there will be more points this season with teams taking points off each other, so the relegation points will be higher. Fulham, Palace, Sunderland, Bournemouth and even Newcastle 'could' have some proper wobbles at times this season along with us, Hull and Coventry. | | | |

Are Coventry big and powerful?! Haji Wright isn't rapid by PL terms, Ellis Simms is very sluggish and stocky. Sakamoto is more slight and technical than even the likes of Jack Clarke and Jaden. Mason-Clark could have the physical attributes to cope in the PL, but does he have the technical game to boot? Same for Thomas-Asante, really. Their midfield (minus Yirenkyi) looks rather powder-puff at the moment too.
| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 15:59 - Aug 7 with 3204 views | ITFC_Forever | He right though. I can’t see where the goals are coming from at the moment. Encisco will help that if / when he signs, but we still need a decent centre forward. And to outsiders looking in, it’s easy to write us off, especially with the catalyst to our recent success having stepped down as manager. And that’s before you take into account the enormous gap between the Champ and Prem that newly promoted clubs have to bridge. | |

Yes. And on the flip side Burnley conceded 16 goals in the 24/25 Championship season and then conceded 75 (the most) in the 25/26 PL season. It's a totally different beast.

| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 16:21 - Aug 7 with 2792 views | cressi | To be fair he did say anyone could go down. The thing is last time we went up scoring plenty. We were poor out from the back and gave ourselves problems look Coventry scored goals and won the league at a canter. But Ipswich still beat them 5-0 over two games and we wasn't great last season. We definitely need to be so much better at scoring from dead ball. We also need at least a couple of players in who can score a few goals. | | | |
| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 16:24 - Aug 7 with 2750 views | John_Warks_Willy | Albeit I don’t particularly pay much attention to the guy generally as he’s really just a solid rent-an-opinion for the media, in so much as our goal scoring capabilities look weak he is right. At the moment. But there’s time to fix that and I’m confident we will do everything we can to do so. But who? A tough and expensive conundrum for MA and co. | |

This would be 'big and powerful' Coventry that we put five goals past and beat twice last season, right? [Post edited 7 Aug 17:47]

| Darragh MacAnthony writing Town off... on 17:57 - Aug 7 with 1784 views | radiogaga | That bloke really does talk some absolute s**t. He should be more concerned by his Peterborough team which is seemingly useless both at scoring goals and stopping goals judging by the fact that they didn’t win a single game after 17th March. If he’s wondering why we had Delap and still went down, it was because we conceded 85 goals, which is probably something to do with why we have prioritised signing defensively solid players this time out. The disrespect that is shown towards us is funny really. If Cov had done our business and vice versa, these clowns would still be spouting the same predictions that they are now. It’s the Lampard and Doug King love-in. As for Hull, I don’t understand how anyone with a straight face can say Hull’s recruitment is going to overtake 2 teams who were significantly ahead of them last season and have spent more than them up to this point in the space of 3 weeks [Post edited 7 Aug 18:04]
