Premier League tax! An ex-player said if you're a Premier League club enquiring about a player clubs in, for example, France add £10 million to the price. I was talking to someone at Town about it and they said they initially enquire via an agent saying an English club is interested to see what price is asked and then take the negotiation from there.

Is the EPL genuinely "the greatest in the world" or are we just mugs? (edit - I mean the EPL and all its clubs, not specifically ITFC).

General question.

Yes, €30m as per French reports last week, which is just under £27m. Seems a lot for him to me, but if he does well this season, no doubt he will be worth more next summer and beyond.

That's £27m inclusive of the adds-ons though, per Ornstein.

If we're paying £20m now, the remainder will be 100% worth paying as we'll likely be a PL club this time next year!

Plus £20m for Enciso is almost certainly as good/if not better value than what we paid for Fatawu or Emersonn.

This seems to be worded as though Outtara is part of the deal.

Do they still rubberstamp? Is it not Docusign or the like now?

Hope not, rubber stamping is meant to imply approval given without due consideration . . .

Will that be with add-ons etc... Phil. Hopefully especially with the knee that was flagged.

Agree that seems a lot, Strasbourg paid just under £14m for him only a year ago!

These things happen all the time in football. Things to consider are how long he had on his Brighton contract (I'm not sure but I'm guessing it wasn't as long as he has on the deal he is one season into at strasbourg. Another thing to consider was he had a knee injury so the price may have been negotiated down. They were signing a player who had potential however failed to break into Brighton's first team and had really only had a loan for half a season with us. A year on he has starred for Strasbourg where he is considered a first team star - so again another reason his price would increase

So what you're saying is Reims should've paid us £6 million to take Kipre off their hands?

Pablo to West Ham was a good one. Gil Vicente paid about 300k for him and sold him for 25m EUR 6 months later.

Not relevant in that case but you can see why these ownership groups are an attractive model.

I agree, this doesn't seem like we overpaid at all in comparison if £27m is the total package inc add-ons.

He's just had a great season for Strasbourg and played and scored in the world cup. And is only 22.

£20m is about the fee for a bog standard PL player these days who is under 25.

There's also no mention in the article of a fee for Ouattara.

I think he does mean 30 million euros for both, but whether that turns out to be the case is another matter.

Is the other chap (Abdoul Ouattara) included in that price though as like a 2 for 1?

There's a wodge of English exceptionallism going on. The Premier League has many of the best players, but the very best tend to go to Real Madrid, Barcelona & Bayern Munich. We used to be able to claim that the Premier League was the most competitive, but that really isn't the case any more, with the top few and bottom few very predictable.
English dominance of Europa League and Europa Conf League shows some depth compared with other leagues, but we're not winning the Champions League regularly.
La Liga is arguably as good. The Bundesliga (excl Bayern) is more competitive and with huge crowds. The Premier League is in the conversation.

To say the Bundesliga is more competitive is nuts considering Bayern basically have the league won about half way through the season almost every season. Also English clubs do win the champions league more regularly than anyone else other than Barcelona/Real Madrid.

Crikey!

From KoA

The fee paid for Ouattara, an ultra versatile 20-year-old from the Ivory Coast, is understood to be around €20m (£17m) + a potential further €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons, meaning that deal could reach £21.3m.

Feel like we are overlooking this signing but that's some major wedge we are paying for him.
