The two lads from Fulham have played three hundred premier league games for a reason. Like all clubs you bring players in from abroad hoping they will settle. If Ipswich bring another 2 or 3 in of the quality mentioned yesterday they have every chance of staying up and do better than people imagine especially people on the outside.

I think someone said Ashley Young thinks we'll stay up, but not seen the article / comments myself. Plus of course he's biased, but maybe that additional inside knowledge is worth something. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You think any research whatsoever has gone into most of these predictions? When you listen to the punditry, and commentary, of most channels football coverage it's pretty obvious most are oblivious to what is happening outside the top six. I'll be surprised if any of them had noted our preseason results, let alone how we played in them. It's better we go under the radar, last time in the Prem, a lot of people were raving about our patterns of play, and how our system worked. We we're predicted to upset a few, and make a good fist of survival. We know how that panned out. I have been excited by most of our business this summer, even more so if we get the 2 rumoured yesterday over the line, but I'm also under no illusions, last time was a real slog, and for much of the season after the new year, I was almost wishing the rest of the season away. I'll be happy with scraping it to 17th on the last day of the season this time around. Id really rather we didn't have another year of upheaval that relegation brings. It's exciting signing players, but so much rotation brings it own challenges, and risks, as the last 2 seasons have shown. A season of survival, followed by consolidation of the core of the squad could see us really grab a good tight hold of that next ladder rung. God I feel nervously excited, just thinking about all the possibilities!

We have a new manager bounce, a stronger squad, not playing in Europe and also keen not to make the same mistakes. The season is long and form changes for all teams. I believe GON will find weaknesses in our opposition.

Go back on this site when the news about GON as mgr was breaking and you will see a large percentage of fans writing him off.. 'Failed at Wolves, lucky he inherited good players at B'mouth' etc etc. So a lot of Town fans wrote him off - maybe the pundits have looked at that. Also believe me if things start badly, those fans will come back out of the woodwork very quickly. Also a poster on here made a valid point yesterday on this topic, take out the Ipswich emotion and look at what we've bought, and maybe others view differently. A Burnley player relegated last season. A Leicester player relegated twice recently. Two Fulham players, a team we think we can catch, who Fulham sold as surplus to requirements. A footballer who failed at Brighton. A footballer who played in Scotland, a league many of us on here think is a lower standard than the championship and a couple of untried youngsters. Yes quite rightly we're excited and I think we will be fine but if you on the outside looking in?

You can take the most pessimistic view of all of the transfers and it still sounds okay? I think most of them just don't give us more than a quick glance.

There’s a lot to that. I’ve been struck by how positive people have been off the back of very little. But then that fans, somI’m not surprised. We’re bound to talk up signings at this stage of the season. It’s all based on faith though, so who knows how it will go; neither us nor the pundits have much of an idea. Given the huge rebuild we needed and change of manager it’s not illogical to think we could struggle.

It is very logical to think we will struggle. Last season we didn’t run away with the league getting 100 points and 100 goals. Indeed we didn’t even win it (despite starting the season as favourites). Additionally we lost our manager who has masterminded our recent successes, and replaced him with someone who is young … but already onto his fourth job and was virtually nobody here’s first choice. We’ve bought well … but we are all assuming that our starting striker is isn’t in the building yet. Bloom’s posts is a fair one about our current signings. I think it is most likely we will finish 18th. Some of our fans seem to be getting somewhat precious when other people predict we will get relegated when we are almost certainly an objective favourite to be relegated. What do they expect people to say? I note it is rare for anyone to identify a club other than Hull or Coventry who we will finish above.
| Phil McNulty thinks we will finish 19th on 10:37 - Aug 19 with 1951 views | Cheltenham_Blue | I really don't know why anyone would give any credence to pundits opinions, they have the worlds most over-rated job Most pundits predicted Liverpool of Citeh to win the league last season, again most had Arsenal 4th. | Phil McNulty thinks we will finish 19th on 10:41 - Aug 19 with 1880 views | ThatMuhrenCross | He's based that entire prediction on the fact McKenna has left and that fact that we "went down with a whimper last time". Well, guess who was the manager when that happened...?! Bit of a contradiction really. I'm increasingly convinced we'll be better off this season because of McKenna leaving. There's been so much change and upheaval in recent years, that having someone come in at the start of pre-season and assess the whole squad with fresh eyes can only be a good thing. That's where players like Akpom benefit, and players like Hirst, without the previous manager's loyalty, are allowed to leave. Also add to that, Gary O'Neil is a specialist in keeping teams up in the Premier League, whereas McKenna had a 0% record of that from his previous attempts. Just very lazy journalism, taking the easy prediction and being to afraid to say anything controversial. At least he's consistent by sending Coventry and Hull down too! | |

| Phil McNulty thinks we will finish 19th on 10:50 - Aug 19 with 1821 views | burnbudgiesburn | Stuart Watson and Mark Heath also have us getting relegated and they are local journos! Let's not be precious about this, we've had a very decent transfer market but we all know how difficult it is. We can get 90% of things right and still end up going down. I'm going into this season content that we are going to be very competitive in most matches. I'm not even going to worry about other teams results, too much emotional energy used in doing that and for me, we need to get to 38-40 points ourselves and see where that takes us at the end of the season | | | |
| Phil McNulty thinks we will finish 19th on 10:52 - Aug 19 with 1809 views | IPS_wich | What evidence does any journo or pundit have to base their predictions on? - We were relegated with four wins last time in the Prem? - We've lost a Manager who most believe was top level? - We've replaced them with a Manager who has had limited success in the Prem? - We've got a squad of players who whilst cost a lot of money have never been seen on the pitch together (we're maybe in for a dreaded 'gelling period')? - Even with our 'championship super squad' last year we didn't finish top of the league? If we take off the blue tinted glasses I can't see any reason - other than we've spent a bucket load of $$ - why any pundit could make a case we will stay up. That said, I think we're setup to do better than 24/25 and I am certain we will finish ahead of Cov and Hull. In fact, the only thing that irks me about most of these predictions is when they predict Cov ahead of us. Bless them - they are us two years ago and are about to have the rudest of awakenings about the step up to the Prem. | | | |

18th with around 35 points feels about "par" for this season. The best of the relegated teams, competitive throughout, but not quite at the level required to leapfrog one of the more established teams. 17th with 40+ points should be seen as unmitigated success. The team this season is going to be almost unrecognisable compared to last season, there are promising patterns coming through in the friendlies, and we continue to be ambitious in the transfer market.

| Phil McNulty thinks we will finish 19th on 12:24 - Aug 19 with 1482 views | Vic | I hear our protestations, but get other peoples scepticism. If you're not a town fan then it really is difficult to think that any of the existing prem teams are likely to be worse than us, Cov or Hull. Facts are that they all have established squads and experience in the Prem. None of the promoted clubs have either of those so it seems quite natural to assume they will struggle. Our task is to prove them wrong - which with the signings we've made (and hopefully will make) I'm quietly hopeful that we will do. | |

So looking at that list of pundits, we have to ask what Bent and Osman say about this season as they both got 2 out of three last year!
