| As a Football Fan: 23:05 - Sep 23 with 3481 views | Chris_ITFC | Allowing football fans to drink in the stands is the kind of dumb idea only a Prime Minister seeking cheap popularity, with his man-of-the-people-but-sits-in-the-posh-seats perspective, could come up with. An unbelievably dumb idea, undoubtedly resulting in idiots showering others with their £7 pints, and filming it for good measure. | |

| As a Football Fan: on 23:13 - Sep 23 | ZapatasMoustache | I have two problems here: 1) people determined to be aggressively problematic are mostly coked to the nines, and tbh I prefer pissed if me or my family have to deal with it - on that basis I'm sympathetic, to an extent 2) the beer at Portman Road is awful; would it really hurt to have one decent IPA available!? - on that basis, I don't much care | | | |
| As a Football Fan: on 01:01 - Sep 24 | britbiker | With you on this one. I get no fun out of idiots throwing pints into the air as a goal celebration. If I want a beer, I will buy it myself thank you very much. You get it at the rugby. Half cut drinks attempting to carry four pints through a crowded stand using a floppy cardboard holder. | | | |

| As a Football Fan: on 01:25 - Sep 24 | TownieRob | As a football fan as well as someone who enjoys a few pints on match day. I agree, this is a stupid idea. I have abolutely zero interest in wearing my own or someone elses pint during a celebration. Keep beers in the concourse. *Perhaps I'm just getting old and boring. | | | |
| As a Football Fan: on 03:11 - Sep 24 | acj | Respectfully, I disagree. In Brazil they have beers in the stands, with staff moving through the crowd with beer on tap and a little keg in their backpacks, and it helps contribute to a brilliant matchday experience. | |

Rugby fans can drink while watching the game too, and I agree it adds to the matchday experience, but the obvious counterargument for football is the number of fans, young and old, who seem to think a goal is an invitation to launch their beer into the air. I’d love to be able to have a pint in my seat, but I wouldn’t love wearing everyone else’s every time Town scored.

I suspect Brazilian fans, along with cricket and rugby followers here, are a little more civilised than the small percentage of amoeba brained idiots that go into football grounds here that think it’s funny to hurl beer over others. I’m sure even the most desperate can manage 50 mins without a beer. Beer on the concourse and Fanzone - absolutely fine. Keep it there. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Especially if you get covered in beer only for VAR to disallow the goal.
| As a Football Fan: on 07:51 - Sep 24 | JakeITFC | I don’t want it but I do agree with the fundamental point that is discrimination against football supporters to now allow it when the same stadiums can host different sports and the rules change. | | | |
| As a Football Fan: on 08:00 - Sep 24 | Cafe_Newman | The problem is not the beer, it’s the culture we English have created around beer drinking and football: from abusive behaviour and vandalism in foreign cities to getting drenched during goal celebrations. Burnham, like the vast majority of our politicians is clueless on matters concerning “the average person” and yes, this just smacks of cheap politicking. | |

The 'beer shower' thing is my main objection but, for me, it depends. When English fans travel abroad, I assume that beer is served in the away ends? If so, does that sort of behaviour happen in those away ends? I don't know either way, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a degree of self-policing going on. Bazza, Big Dave, and Tiny probably aren't going to be best pleased if their Stone Island/CP clobber gets covered in Carling.

| As a Football Fan: on 08:35 - Sep 24 | Tractor_Buck | Rugby (League and Union): Beer good German football: Not only beer good, but sitting amongst fans of the opposing team except in the Ultras areas good. English Non League football at step 2 and below: Beer good Cricket: Beer VERY good. League Football: Beer bad? Sorry, this makes no sense. It's definitely worth looking at. | | | |

Yep, literally every other sport, and football in every other European country (with far more rowdy fans than England) manages it. The kind of laws made up by politicians that have never been to a football game - it’s classism, the working man’s sport (vs egg chasing and cricket), ‘the plebs at football can’t be trusted’. We employ stewards use them. If someone throws (an expensive) pint, chuck them out the ground - bans for repeat offenders as with other violations. I hate this whole ‘punish everyone for the actions of others’ culture. I bet there are many on here who’ve been coerced back to the office for example, because others have been abusing WFH. Or putting the whole class in detention for a couple of naughty kids.
| As a Football Fan: on 09:32 - Sep 24 | BlueMoon | Burnham feels like he's a city mayor at best. Not sure drinking a pint at the football is the kind of thing the Prime Minister should be worrying himself over, particularly at the moment... [Post edited 24 Sep 10:48]

| As a Football Fan: on 09:36 - Sep 24 | ITFC_Essex | Forget the beer.... I tried to take a sealed, undrunk, coffee into the club shop once and I was refused entry by the elite Achilleus lot, even after I said i'd pay for anything that I "spilled" on, with my sealed coffee. I was going to buy a new Town hat, as it was a chilly day, which is why I bought myself a warm drink pre-game! I had to go hatless for the game! Where is my justice? | |

| As a Football Fan: on 09:41 - Sep 24 | E_I_E_I_E_I_O | But that would only be because of the poor british culture. Because in the 10 or so other countries I have ever watched a football game all of them where you can have a beer and all of them with no issues. | | | |
| As a Football Fan: on 09:47 - Sep 24 | hype313 | Go to Twickenham and see how much 'fun' it is to have to spend the game up and down like a whores draws because large numbers of people are going to the bar, it's excruciating. Add the fact that the beer at PR is woeful and overpriced. | |

Easily overcome by having people going round with kegs on their backs. They come to you. Anyway, if you go to Twickers to actually watch Rugby, you're in a minority.
| As a Football Fan: on 09:51 - Sep 24 | Pinewoodblue | I would be in favour of allowing fans to finish their half time pint back to their seat but against people going to the bar when there is a break in play and bringing full pints back. | |

80k at Twickenham compared to 30k at PR. Just saying, if it was introduced it would be a nightmare to have to deal with during a game.

This would be the only allowance I would make in this respect - as it takes so long to get served at half time, without wanting to just neck it (at that price!) it would mean I could take it back in and not have to miss the first 5 mins or so of the second half just watching it on the screen on the concourse whilst drinking up. We're a civil lot in block GG though, so wouldn't be a problem.

Fulham had someone doing that on the concourse a few years back, but I recall that there was no ‘mini keg’ as the quality of the beer confirmed that it was syphoned directly from their bladder.
