Good point! And I've also had beers at football matches overseas. Maybe we just don't trust ourselves to behave like grown ups.

No need for it, winds me up at Rugby with people going in and out all the time.

| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 12:56 - Sep 24 with 591 views | rickw | a) I wouldn't mind trying it, maybe in certain stands for certain games I would often like a beer at a match but at halftime it takes 15 mins to get served meaning you'd have to down it and go back to your seat, if you can take it with you that has to be a good thing. I wouldn't have it at a Norwich match, I'm always amazed each time how drunk people can get by a Sunday midday kick off! | |

| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 10:06 - Sep 24 by LandOfMickyStockwell | I can see this being liked by clubs to gain revenue. A trial might be that bars still close during the match to prevent people getting up, but is unmanageable. I've been to rugby, found I drank pints more out of rounds culture than wanting to. I wasn't interested in the game (not my sport TBH). Strong B. 1. Safe standing makes it difficult to put the pint on the floor, so less clapping, less singing, more knocking over. 2. Spills by accident or on purpose. I hate the 'limbs' phenomenon. At best wet shoes, worst wet head. VAR decisions can't put pints back in to glasses. Offenders easily lost in the crowd rather than ejected. That is if they're not punched first. 3. Better culture talking to other fans while drinking, not just your mate beside you. Drinking in the stands seems insular. 4. Benefit to club revenues, does this mean less for local pubs that rely on match trade? If both benefit, then there's a lot of beery people. I think the before / after pints could be affected. 5. Football is more family orientated, nice to have a moment away from alcohol. On the pitch is the most important thing. 6. Disruption during the game happens now for toilet breaks and half-time. The rows at the Hill Dickenson were very tight, can't imaging the difficulty carrying pints through that. Absolutely agree with all these points. It won't work, drinks will be flying everywhere, not at all pleasant for the large majority of fans. Then arguements and fisty cuffs a possibility. The law was brought in for a reason, to help prevent problems in the stands . I remember it was sometimes carnage in the stands before the law changed, especially in the 70s! It's a definite no from me. | | | |

I wonder if it is brought in whether clubs might look to continue the ban regardless (or would that not be allowed?) It’d cause a load of issues with pints being spilt / thrown and there’ll be plenty of fights when kids etc are getting covered in beer. Throw it in the bin along with WiFi in the ground. There’s already enough people around me who spend half the game on their phones. Just go and actually enjoy the game

If clubs have a choice, then they may only allow it in some areas of the ground. Ironically, that would cause discrimination that the Prime Minister is supposedly keen to remove. Imagine if the corporates and directors could pop champagne corks over prawn sandwiches, but other fans could not. It would be good for hospitality sales but at the cost of an "us and them" rift. As stated, I am a "B".
| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 16:09 - Sep 24 with 465 views | Sarge | I would love to not have to down a beer quickly to get into the stand but there are too many melts who will just chuck their beer around if we score. No thanks. | | | |
| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 16:13 - Sep 24 with 457 views | TheBoyBlue | I think others have said similar, but it would be great not to have to neck it all down at halftime. Allow people to take their drinks out to the terraces to finish but close the bars when the game is going on. So I guess leaning more towards B. | |

| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 07:42 - Sep 24 by BanksterDebtSlave | Never mind getting covered in beer if we score at away days! |
What we need are water hydration bags filled with beer and a long tube. Then we won't be covered in beer when our team scores. Saves on plastic glasses.

Why can't you just want to watch the game? No disruptions with getting beer and people taking a p1ss. Just drink before and/or after the game. If you want to drink during the game... stay at home, stream the game where you're near a fridge full of beer and a toilet. Burnham's just trying to get some working class blokes on his side.

I'd worry that the fan next to me would be using the bag and tube for a piss. It's difficult to tell warm Carling apart. Search "Beer-Filled Jacket" on Amazon. I've had plastic lids on pints at rugby, how are they not frisbees and thrown like the bottle tops that were banned? Reckon they'd fly further.

Man of the people. A real regular bloke. Mskersfield man. Just the chap if you love high taxes, an enormous welfare bill, zero growth and over regulation. What a toxic gov we’ve had since this lot got “elected”. No wonder net contributors are leaving in their droves.

I imagine the stewards and old bill will be horrified by the idea too. Football fans just aren’t mature enough to be trusted with something like this. FPR is probably one of the few grounds I can think of where it might work in the main. The thought of it somewhere like over here is quite frightening. It’s like a zoo at the best of times.

I have known people who watched whole games in Legends...sorry Beatties...for one, technically the licence they have allows them to, whether you can find staff to serve you is another matter of course. but there you go I guess he wants to wash his prawn sandwiches from his lofty directors box perch down with something more than a vimto.
