3 points at Hull would be ideal, tough ask given how they play up there.

Point against Bournemouth would be nice, although they are away in Prague on the Thursday.

3 points from the next 1 would be nice. Got to ride out the first 15 / 20 minutes or so, they're busy and aggressive, get through that period and get our foot on the ball and take the game to them.

Have they done anything to improve the playing surface at the MKM? My recollection from last year was that the game we had with them was about as low quality as it came last season, and that the pitch was cited as a key factor. (OK, it was at Blackburn and Pompey too, but for different reasons)

Could that be helping them with their reasonable home record?

First half in that away game last season has to be up there with the worst we've seen in years, and that includes the water polo at Ewood.

Just need to keep the points tally ticking along at this stage. A couple of draws would not be the end of the world.

Important when we get a run if fixtures like these ones we make it count. 3 points from one of these next two would see me happy. 4 to 6 and we are looking in business.

Given how tough other teams have found it to get a result against hull I don't think we should take anything for granted. I don;t see any reason to think we 'should' beat them, apart fro the fact that we finished miles ahead of them last season - which is now totally irrelevant!

I actually have this down as a game I really don;t expect us to win. Of course I'd love a win, but I'd take a point now if you offered it to me.

It's nowhere near a must win game sat, however these are the sort of games you simply have to get 3 points from in your quest for safety.

3 points are hard enough to get in the prem, if you can't get them against those who you doubled last season, it's going to make things tough

Would definitely settle for any kind of win against Hull, and a plucky performance against Bournemouth, even if it means no points from the latter.

If we finish above Bournemouth, we stay up, surely. I think we need to be putting the other bona fide relegation candidates below us, and I see Hull as one of those. I appreciate that some might see that as disrespectful towards Hull, and they are above us, having lost only 2 from 8. I'd love to be proven wrong on Hull (as long as we stay up), and I hate it when people disrespect unfashionable teams who have made a good start, but I do see them sliding as the season goes on.

Not must win, but simply have to get 3 points from!*

That first half was one of the worst halves of professional football I've ever seen. Hull didn't want the ball, and we couldn't keep it. Utterly inept.

Free pint was nice though.

Like with Forest, Hull's size and physicality is a concern.

Posted elsewhere, I was at their game at Chelsea - they are massive!

Need Lukic back and I might even be tempted to put Kipre in.

Id confuse hull and go 5 4 1 ourselves.

Being nervous will be par for the course. I doubt we'll ever feel secure until our fate is sealed.

I haven't seen anything to say that we can't compete. The fixture in Oct 2024 at West Ham was a different story. That said, while thinking we've had a good start, we have probably only just done averagely enough.

Long may average continue and we secure a second season!

2 more draws will keep us on track for the point per game needed to avoid relegation. A win from either will put us ahead.

I said last week that 4 points from Forest, Hull and Bournemouth will be a good return.

Wonder if 38 points will be enough to survive. The bottom half is looking tight and congested this year, nobody’s really been cast adrift at this early stage. Saints, us and Leicester iirc were looking doomed quite early on two years ago.

Obvs Cheat City could/should be rock bottom by a mile when the deduction hits.

Both teams are radically different from last season, so last season's results are, by and large, irrelevant as an indicator of which games are more winnable than others.

If we were playing them at home, then I would agree wholeheartedly with your 1st paragraph. However, their home form (undefeated and some notable results, including a draw with Brentford last week when ,by all accounts, Hull could and should have won) indicates that this will be a very tough game.

I'm with Vic. I'll be pleased with a point and delighted with a win.

We're currently tracking above that so a point per game from now to the end would see us finish on 40.

No team has been relegated on 40 points since Sunderland in 1997.

However, if we carry on tracking at 1.25 points per game then we finish on 47 points and comfortably safe.

They're not all born equal though innit. We're not likely to average 1ppg from Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool etc so we'll need to continue to make hay against the bottom half sides. I rate Muff, I think that's a tough game and Hull is for different reasons, would be great to win on Saturday though.

Agree 4 points would be a nice return from those 3, but 2 draws won't get us that.

No but we've played Liverpool and Man City already and are still tracking 1.25 points per game.

...and so would I vic. We are looking for a triumph of finesse over strength which rarely happens unless the team has more muscle than we have in the regular starting 11. A very difficult 90 mins for us up there.
