Currie10 would have sacked him after 8 games, he was obvious crap and didn't have a clue what he was doing

Very true. And that's an area where I have concerns over ME. He doesn't seem 'lucky' in his decisions.

So we had 1 out of 14 back then and we now have 3 from 21? Whichever way you spin it, Bobby's start that year was just as bad. Football has changed though, managers simply don't get time to build anything. Not suggesting Hurst will be the next Bobby though, regardless of how much time he is given.

Managers at this club, under ME, get plenty of time!

I haven't spun anything, I have started some comparison. So you know I quiet like statistics and any general analysis, not that I should justify my post. Interested to see how our season continues against these stats and how Hursts position pans out, fully behind the guy but I have concerns so far, fully behind the lad he needs time, and correctly stated by yourself football is very different these days.

I'm sure he has a close eye on the financial implications of decisions. Hurst won't go unless he's sacked for gross misconduct without compensation.

I can talk for myself thanks...... He needs to be given a bit of time, but we cannot get ourselves cut adrift like under Jewell. We cannot get into a repeat of that. Sure, Jewell left a mess, but he did leave ability. Cresswell/ DJ Campbell / various others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012%E2%80%9313_Ipswich_Town_F.C._season Jewell was massively under performing, the squad not too bad in my opinion. This season, however, Hurst requires time unless we get cut 5/6 points adrift - he should be the man to stay in. I'd take 21st now, stay up, give Hurst January / next summer to improve on this squad and see what he could do over the course of two seasons - in an ideal world. However, it's clear things need to change and soon.

The first thing that came into my mind was the Manfred Mann song... There she was, just a-walking down the street, Singing "DLLLLLLWDDLDWWLDDDLWLDWLLLL" Snapping her fingers and shuffling her feet, Singing "DLLLLLLWDDLDWWLDDDLWLDWLLLL"

I think I understand what your sentences are trying to say, but it's simply comparing the start of our most successful manager against the start of our latest manager. Both are pretty irrelevant to the longer-term picture anyway, as they are just starts.

If it gets lost, it's because it's a fatuous comparison. Robson was pitting his wits against Revie's Leeds, Shankly's Liverpool, Clough's Derby, Bill Nicholson's Tottenham, a Man Utd side that could still put out Law, Charlton and Best, an Arsenal side that were one season away from winning the Double, the Chelsea of Osgood/Cooke/Hudson, World Cup winning West Ham in a period when the World Cup winners still played for them. Losses to them would have hurt but were understandable. Losses to Paul Warne's Rotherham and Nigel Adkins's Hull don't quite measure up. Apart from Jackie Milburn, who quit early on in the 64-65 season, before the side got its first victory of that season, Hurst has gone longer than any ITFC manager has at getting a victory in the second tier. Yep, even John Duncan was on the board after 4 games, let alone 7. Patience is a virtue, but throw us a bone here, Paul. Before it's too late. [Post edited 17 Sep 2018 13:33]

DLLLLLLWDDLDWWLDDDLWLDWLLLL on 13:41 - Sep 17 with 2918 views | ElephantintheRoom | Point of order - it was Bobby Robson who was the manager back then, Sir Bobby was decades in the future - a young tyro who was not respected by some of the old lags. However he did not rubbish the team he inherited, did not loan out all his promising youn players - he played them, though if the truth be told it took a very long time for the likes of Talbot and Whymark to get in. Town were a football club back then with a chairman who loved the club and saw something in Robson which is to his credit, because Cobbold moved heaven and earth to employ Billy Bingham, not Robson. If you go through the team Robson inherited and the one he built from, only Baxter and Carrol were ousted - and for very good reasons. Hurst by contrast is flailing around. Already he has thrown the baaby out wit5h the bath water, probably signed more players than Robson did in 10 years. He is chopping and changing and struggling. There is nobody at the club to help and advise him - just a greedy offshore opportunist who may or may not be available on skype. Patience is only a virtue if there is something wortrh waiting for. This is a car crash happening in slow motion. AND a self-inflicted one

Actually, his name was Robert Robson, as indicated by the initials on his tracksuit. Harry Pardewdyce as Director of Football anyone?
