Told ya!

(6.7/10 on the TWTD match ratings).

At least some of you understand defending!

RIP Sir Bobby

People confuse being a busy defender with being a good defender.

If defending is wrestling players to the floor. Tripping over your own feet and walking into left back position for no reason at all then sure he was quality.

Grrrrr gutted.

But seriously, its obviously just opinions.

The more vocal on here don't seem to rate him, others clearly do. As a former defender I see a lot of qualities in him, sure he makes mistakes, but he is very good and will only get better.

Shame it won't be with us!

As a former defender you may have headed one too many balls. McGuinness may well turn out to be a fine defender but not for us. Your veneration of this player is Trumpian. We really need to bringing on our players and not be promoting someone who will be gone at the end of the season.

It's not about not rating him, he has a ton of potential - but he makes big errors too often.

The sort of errors you expect in first outings at senior football, when you play against people like Wyke who have been around the block

At the moment - Ipswich Town are not gaining out of his presence - he isn't better than Woolfie, Wilson or Chambers at CB currently - no doubt he'll likely be better than all 3 in time - and he's denying Woolfie progress, and as a pairing they need an experienced head alongside either of them

I'm not sure many, if any, have suggested that he doesn't have a chance of going on to be a decent player. The issue is that he's not our player so if he becomes a decent player further down the line it has zero benefit for us at all. In the here and now he makes too many errors and the pairing of him with Woolfenden leaves us criminally short of experience at the centre of the defence and that's been exposed many times now.

Potential is great, but he's not our player and we don't benefit from helping him begin to fulfil his potential. He's very raw and makes quite a lot of mistakes, and the pairing of him and Woolfenden is too inexperienced for this level. His signing made no sense at the time and it continues to not make much sense.

I guess that if we wanted to add another defender with injuries to KVY, Woolfy & Wilson early on, it made a bit of sense, as didnt impact the salary cap.

Could Baggott have stepped up, maybe - could Lambert have used Donacien (possibly a better option, but never likely with the current manager).

It was an option, that didn't impact the salary cap, which is why it made a little bit of sense, at the time.

Sadly, can see this being the way it works for us, whilst we stay in League One.

Wilson wasn't injured back then and Woolfy wasn't far off fitness. Ndaba had looked decent enough to cover if needed. Chambers was also fit of course and he's a CB. We really didn't need another CB at all. We did, however, need a right back. The signing of McGuiness has caused a number of problems indirectly, even ignoring some of the big errors he's made that have cost us.

How many games has Chambers played for us at RB compared to CB? I’d be interested to see this stat. Ndaba has no first team experience apart from the odd EFL Trophy game, which aren’t really first team games that clubs take seriously. I think we can say hand on heart all our defenders have made errors during this season whether they are our players or loans, be consistent.

Over his career Chambers has played a lot more at CB than at RB and it's clearly his best position. He's on record saying he's a CB and not a RB. Your description of Ndaba is also a description of McGuiness at the time we signed him, except he'd had even less experience. Pointless signing that hasn't done us any favours, unfortunately. Not his fault, it's down to clueless management.

That doesn’t answer my question about Chambers, I asked how many games has he played for us at RB. I see you didn’t reply about the mistakes/errors comment regarding all our defenders because that doesn’t suit your argument. Much easier to exaggerate the errors of a loan signing in comparison of our own players. Not a pointless signing, it will be good to see how this lad develops and we’ve had the opportunity to see him at the very start of his career.

Here's a fun game.

It seems as if you can add your match ratings without having to register for the site! I've just given all the plucky ITFC lads a heartfelt 10/10 for their efforts, and I think it'd be lovely if as many of us as possible could do the same.

It’s ok to admit that our own defenders have made errors too, it’s not showing disloyalty or that you are lesser an Ipswich fan, it just shows that you acknowledge the truth.

Berra?

Berra was twice the defender of anyone we've played at centre back this season to be fair.

Not really a groundbreaking statement, rather stating the obvious considering Berra’s career, the inexperience of some of our current defenders and the standard of football we play in. He still made mistakes btw 🙄
