The Curious Career of James Norwood 17:29 - Apr 2 with 4896 viewsMB26

We are coming up to 2 years of James Norwood as a Town player and I honestly can't think of another player who's had such a bizarre career with us.

- Joined with huge hype after back to back promotions with Tranmere scoring goals for fun
- Solid start to his career. Player of the Month in August and national attention with the WWE GIFs, tweet from Dwayne 'The Rock Johnson' before his wrestling appearance in Harwich.
- Injury hit spell begins alongside stop/start parternship with Jackson
- More national attention for smashing his car window in order to get to training on time.
- Various Twitter exchanges with both Town and opposition fans over his time.
- The 'PrezzoGate' incident.
- Drink Driving saga

I'm sure there's a lot more that I've missed but there's plenty there to get us started. I genuinely feel for the bloke at times, particularly at the moment, as he's clearly being used whilst carrying some sort of injury as he's the only goal threat we seem to possess. It seems as if he can only play 45 minutes and we are praying he can score in that time to give us any advantage before he misses a game or two. He is a capable goalscorer at this level and certainly has the instincts of a natural goalscorer (movement and positioning) but sometimes lacks that killer finish.

I think we can safely say that he will certainly be remembered as a Town player over the years. I hope over the summer we can rehab him properly to at least get a fully fit Norwood for 75% of next season.

A bloke who can score a goal
Likes a drink
Likes to be the joker
Decides when he fancies playing football

Bascially a good player for a lower league side. Not one to trust in a promotion chasing team.

Spent 95% of it out injured hasn’t he, or coming back from injury. We’ve never seen the best of him, nor at 30 yrs of age go8mg forward, are we ever likely too. I do wonder if we might be better offloading this highly paid player and getting in someone else.

If he left in the summer he'd be forgotten in a couple of years, as would many of this squad.

Personally hes a prime example of what is wrong with this squad.

I didn't necessarily mean remembered for his contributions on the pitch.

Remembered in the same way as Chopra or Paul Taylor.

There's evidently an injury issue there but we are doing nothing to help his cause by shoving him in when he's at least partially injured. Happened under Lambert and seems to be happening under Cook too.

I think we all feel as similar sense of frustration over our injury record.

“ years”? I’d say a couple of months ...utter dross the lot of them.

All that said, he is our most threatening forward and the one most likely to score. Would be getting rid of other attackers before him. Even if we got in a better forward he would be good support.

The fact that he's our best forward says more about the rest of them's ability, than his.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

He suffers from being yet another marquee signing for us that hasn't hit the heights. Is he awful? No. Is he a top class player whose presence transforms us? Also, no.

Marquee signing...he was a free transfer.

He’s the best we’ve got.

Marquee signings don't have to involve a fee, he's probably the best paid player at the club.

I can’t see a squad of relegated ex-Championship players being on less than an ageing League 2 striker even with their salary reductions. There’s a long list of players who’ve played at higher levels than Norwood in our squad.

You could be right but I think the money on offer was what brought him here rather than anywhere else I would imagine so he is probably quite high up the list of 'earners'.

Despite his social media antics...The video (correct me if wrong) while "injured" of Norwood jumping up onto his Audi and climbing up into the top window of his gaff really really pissed me off!!!

He needs a reset as to what he wants to achieve with his career. I hope Cook will do that and Norwood can kick on.

Marquee signing? He is more 1960s 2 man ridge tent with no ground sheet, woodworm in the tent poles and whiff of damp from the loft than marquee. League 2 standard at best. No, it doesn’t say much for the rest, but neither does the ‘goals for’ column.

If want to be competitive, we need better than what we have. The chances of that with the claw like grip of Evans on the club? It’ll be an interesting summer.

Word was when we signed him that he we'd offered him a very big salary in the face of competition from other clubs, some in the Championship.

Ageing League 2 striker he might well have been, but there was a lot of buzz about him when he signed for us. He wasn't some minor punt we took, him and Judge were the big signings in Summer 2019.

Lee Bowyer confirmed that Charlton were in for him and we blew them out of the window. Judge is on a fair whack I imagine, I'd say it's likely between him and Norwood for who is our highest earner. The rest of the squad wasn't on huge money by Championship standards and they all got hefty wage cuts after relegation.

A little harsh to pop him in there with those two yes but ultimately his career with us has been overshadowed more with what has happened off the pitch than on it.

Drink driving seems to be a popular misdemeanor for footballers nowadays unfortunately, doesn't make it anymore forgiveable.

I’d have thought Judge, Huws, Skuse and Chambers are all ahead of him. We’re lead to believe that £5k ish per week is a high earner for League One standard. Even with a 30% decrease dropping down, the aforementioned would be above that threshold or thereabouts.
