A whole squad in the summer 21:43 - Apr 13 with 2156 viewsgreyhound

Can it be done, can we literally start from absolute scratch and flush this dirty water out of our club once and for all.

Yes.

We have nothing to lose.

And the division is sufficiently toilet that we could have a slowish start and still be fine. It tends to be the way with Cook teams I believe. Take a while to get going and then fly....

Yes.

And yes, because the division is utter gash.

We are an absolute joke currently yet until today we still had a shot of the playoffs. That says it all.

Yes we can . We know this league is dogs**t so we could easily get a squad together, with some of the players we already have, and mount a serious challenge. It's about rebuilding everything though isn't it and so far it seems our new owners are leaving no stone unturned.

Any higher up the pyramid and I’d worry about time to gel and getting everything together but clubs at League One and Two frequently have 10, 15, 20 players depart and come in over the summer, including teams that go on to get promoted.

Cook knows football, knows the division and knows exactly what he needs. In some ways it’s beneficial that he might get close to a blank canvass rather than having to add components to players he may not fancy being part of his side or system that he has to work around.

Doubt it. Think the plan keep be to keep the younger players (Kenlock, Woolfenden, Downes, Nydam, Dozzell, Bishop, Dobra, Lankester) and hope a new bunch of experienced heads will help them elevate their game.

Yes but only if we properly get rid and don't keep players at the club on the basis of what they've done in the past.

The quality of this league will still be poor next season.

If we're ambitious enough to recruit Ashton, I'm excited for the calibre of player this summer.

Build a new squad while still in League 1, get them used to winning games and scoring goals and then take that momentum into the Championship.

Yes, but it means working very hard behind the scenes and being able to get everyone in the building in time for pre season

If PC can get 6 weeks of full training for his squad for his 4 2 3 1, we will be ready to go

Blackpool done it with far less quality than we should be able to attract and they currently sit in the play offs so yes, tear it apart.

Sounds daunting but it's not actually a full squad we need. We are defensively solid (bad night to bring that up but it's true). We really just need to add goals and chance creators.

The defence, after all, knows that if they make even one mistake, we've almost certainly lost the game. A load of extra pressure. Possibly induces fragility once the fatal first goal is conceded.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

You say that but Cook has mentioned that while the defence is currently solid, it's not the kind of defence that suits the way he wants to play. Whether that changes with KVY playing consistently or requires further tweaking, I guess we'll find out.

I’d actually send most of those out on loan next season.

They’ve all grown up together, they need to be split up for a while and be at a club without their “mates” around. It will do them the world of good, because their development has stalled.

You make a good point Chelt, the mate effect whilst has it's positives, in our environment it can't be that good

I don't think any of us want to see Chambers as a RB.

KVY Chambers Woolf/Nsiala New LB is an entirely different prospect to wat we have now.

Honestly, it won't go down well but i'd like to see Donacien retained. Doubt he would accept a new deal but he's plenty good enough defensively as a back up to KVY.

Donacien should never have been allowed to leave, the most awful loan i've witnessed supporting town, not saying he's a world beater, but the fact he was our cover but who really should have ended up our right back instead of chambers whilst KVY recovered.

Evans knew it was wrong. He would only loan him. Which seems a bit odd really if his contract is up.

I just can't think of a single position where we don't need some sort of work.

Beyond that even situational we lack specialists, we can't beat first man from a deadball, the goalkeeper situation is dire, corners never create chances.

Its a terrifying prospect but the rot is so far set in now I don't feel like anyone we have will actually realise any sort of potential.

You'd send most of them out on loan? You know they're all going to be early to mid 20s already, right? Either keep them and play them, or release...

Yes. Bring in players of sufficient quality, balance, character and hunger and they’ll soon be too much for this toilet bowl of a League.

Loaning them is just passing the problem on for a season. Not sure anyone would be clamouring for their talent, attitude or application either

2 full backs for a start.

And a CB IMO. But it's still not from scratch.

We have two keepers, Woolf, Downes, Dozzell, Nolan and Norwood who all look likely to stay.

Decisions to be made on Chambers, Nsiala, Donacien, Bishop, Edwards etc

Players under contract we might not be able to shift like Kenlock and Hawkins.

I'm sure we'll sign about ten but a whole new squad? No chance.

Truly impaired.
